[Grimsby Road]

Shrewsbury, Burton and Cambridge were dreadful last year and the 7 of us probably all deserved to go down. They’ve circled the sinkhole for a while now so probably inevitable they go this year.

League 1 will eventually empty out of the teams with no major investment won't it ?


Burton have billionaires in charge now though , I wonder if their recruitment has just gone really badly wrong there .

We did warn them.

The lad on the forum probably still thinks so, got to admire his optimism!

Losing to them twice both times when dreadful was pretty much what did us, although giving 13 points out of 18 to our fellow relegation sides didn't help either.

How Burton stayed up is beyond me, they even let Ryan Loft score a winner past them! They've had some big investment and got excited about beating us in a friendly (after we'd had a double training session in the morning ) and don't think they've won yet have they?

Think them three and Crawley who have had their promotion side and staff taken apart will do. Its a difficult level that but those three can't really complain when they've been struggling for the past 2-3 seasons mostly.

It was such an avoidable relegation and needless from us.

Its tough up there now compared in my view to the past, we went up and first season sat 9th going into January but then Ipswich throw 2-3 million quid around and you realise its a huge ask to compete at the top end, look at this season, its even worse with Birmingham.

The bottom 8-9 are meh, and you've got clubs like Exeter and Lincoln competing well on modest budgets but one bad window and your likely toast.

Best of luck to the lad and fantastic he has felt he can open about it to both his employers and allow them to inform the supporters who in turn I am sure will back him and hopefully encourage any supporters struggling to seek help if needed in their own right.

Yeah I think there are a handful of clubs at league 2 who could compete financially at league 1 I guess beyond that it would be down to getting everything right ; Exeter is a great model it seems ; Lincoln very well run but still losing 2-3 million a season which is probably a small amount comparedto most but hardly sustainable .

I would say for us (Town) who are somewhat probably in between being a big club in league 1 or a small club in league 2 the ideal is getting top 7 a few years isn't it and then going up eventually rather than just going up and getting pumped all the time ; i bet it gets hard work for those long term clubs in there with low resource getting pumped most weeks ; I mean we have been there in this league and that /isn't wasn't fun .

Interesting... we had Adam Murray for a short spell when DC had to take bereavement leave to help out Crosby and went on a run of 8 wins and a draw in 9 which propelled us into the top 3 so does seem to be a positive influence. Then he went off to Besiktas a few weeks after!

He seems to be struggling at Barnsley a bit at the moment.

I know a Barnsley fan and he doesn't know how to take to him. I haven't followed them at all, but I do wonder how long it is before he starts criticising things in the background.

We've started talking about possible Flynn replacements on our podcast recently - Murray is a standout. He saved Eastbourne from relegation last season and now has them near the top of the league.

Ceds is a proper honest lad who’s had to graft to make it to the pro game, really hope he can find the help he needs and get a proper shot at league football with us at some point.

Listening to Maynard, it sounds like he really struggled with getting a serious knee injury so soon after the high of scoring the winning penalty at Wembley, and all the time training alone and doing rehab etc. It’s something that must happen more than we realise, but it’s a great sign that a club and player can be so open about it now.

When he was with us many moons ago I would never have said he would go onto have such a good career even lower down - he must have been 16 or 17 stone, out a lot on the pi*s , immobile , not very interested + didn't really score .

He must have really applied himself in the following years , got in better shape and scored a fair few goals , fair play to the lad he must be one of the most iconic lower league recent goalscorers now .

I've a soft spot for Cedwyn Scott, always tried hard whilst being in Langstaffs shadow then getting a season long injury. He's looked bang out of form pre-season and in the bits he's played, not helped by never playing him as a no 9 with a first team to feed him some chances.
I just hope he gets to feel happier about life soon.

It's hard not to have a soft spot for a young man and footballer like Scott. The injury time penalty miss(save) at Wrexham in the top.of the table clash followed by converting the promotion winning penalty in front of 38,000 at Wembley is a fab story. He's in Notts' folklore forever since.

He's looked out of sorts obviously due to multiple reasons and disappointingly from a football point of view only not good enough to play as a No.9.

However football takes a distant backseat at times like this. Health is naturally far more important.

Finally after years of fundraising the John Rudge Statue is in place and set to be unveiled, the main event is today (his 80th birthday) and will see celebrations run into Saturdays game against AFC Wimbledon.

Fully deserved, and looking forward to it on Saturday and will adorn the Hamil Road car park.

Its worth what someone is prepared to pay I guess... Carol and Kevin paid far more than our value to ensure our survival but does seem an interesting one this. Wrexham may provide the benchmark for other stars to try it I suppose.

Never heard of ASAP Rocky mind! That said i'm nearly 40 and I have to ask my 10 year old daughter who sings half the songs these days so guess I am not in with the current times!
