Think yourselves lucky.

Don't even come close to a rivalry with another team and the only reason other clubs think it's important to beat us is because " we shouldn't lose to a club like Crawley".

It's true, no one likes us but no one cares about us either. (Insert sad face here).

Wrexham v Chester not being a derby is a ridiculous conclusion to reach. There’s so much hatred there they won’t even let away fans travel to the away ground unless they get on a bus at the home ground and are escorted by police.

There’s plenty of other big non-city derbies - Newcastle/Sunderland, Southampton/Portsmouth, Cardiff/Swansea, Wolves/West Brom, Derby/Forest, Norwich/Ipswich, Luton/Watford, Blackburn/Preston etc. We consider our rivalry with Peterborough a derby despite the fact we’ve not played each other competitively for 15 years. The history of local hatred is there.

Christ the press even call Real Madrid/Barcelona a derby though I don’t agree with that - I believe locality is important in a derby. I wouldn’t say Arsenal/Man U is a derby for example. But it extends to further than just city boundaries clearly.
Wrexham v Chester -2 clubs with pitches in Wales - of course it's a derby match....

There's a difference between derby and rivalry in my eyes and it's isn't necessarily clubs having to be from the same city. How does that even work with clubs from towns anyway?

A derby has to be more than football in my eyes. Gloucester and Cheltenham is a derby because the conurbations are so different (yet so alike in many ways). I know people in Cheltenham who simply hate having to go to Gloucester and vice versa. The football rivalry is built on that ingrained attitude.

Cheltenham-FGR simply doesn't have that. There's no animosity between the areas. Who can dislike anything about Nailsworth? The only thing I don't like about FGR is how they were sugar-daddied into the League and were completely unsustainable. I also don't like how they sold their soul to get to the Football League, changing their kit and colours for example. But like I said, I don't have any animosity to the traditional FGR fans (the new hangers on can fuck off though). That's why it's not a derby. It's just another local game.

Us v The Scunts and Lincoln are local derby's. Nothing but fields full of carrots, peas and spuds between our grounds.

On another note: Earlier this season I said our playing policy under Ian Holloway was going to be "You score 3 and we'll score 4". What I meant to say was "You score 3 and we'll score 1".

A City one is a full derby because you have it split households, families and work places more. Histories often interlinked. These are massively intense although these days not so much maybe at Prem level where you have pot hunters.

The local derby you don’t get that much in the cities but maybe only in the towns/villages midway between the two. I was born and raised in Melton Mowbray slap bang between Leicester and Nottingham so had the mix of Forest and Leicester but if you go either city the mix isn’t there so the intensity will be less.

Other rivalry’s can be on events or even temporary we grew a fairly intense one with Shrewsbury after a controversial late win in 2008 which lasted a few years, loads of trouble, 1pm kick offs etc. Was more intense than the Crewe one but that dropped off.

The Crewe one is a funny one, both sets often debate is it a derby is it not. I think Crewe fans care more than we do and you don’t get that intensity or nervousness with it walking around the ground. Trouble isn’t that regular apart from their fans lamping our goalkeeper when they scored an equaliser. Their fans seem to always be on us, if we are struggling (look at this forum a few weeks back) or used to slate us for player behaviour or police involvement under Micky Adams (ironic in the end) but generally they are more of an irritating little brother that never shuts up to me.

As for Vale - Stoke... that is absolute chaos! We played their U21s in the leasing a couple of years ago, they sold out in a few hours 4500, trashed the ground; smashed windows, jumped on cars etc. Absolutely nuts. The younger ones who haven’t been a proper full scale one got an insight.

Usually helped that we always seemed to beat them or get a draw (think it’s about 8 unbeaten) in the 90s... and of course us surviving a last day relegation battle in 1998 as they went down! Good times!

The term Derby game originally dates to games that drew crowds compared to the crowds which are drawn to the Derby racehorse meeting.

so any game that draws higher than normal crowds due to the number of away fans can be a Derby game.

as someone has said, as Crewe don’t take fans to Vale so not a Derby game. Whereas Stags fill the away end at Notts County and Chesterfield so are Derby games.

Our fans locked the gates at Roots Hall to stop the coach and players getting yesterday. Also egged the coach. Fun times.
Wasn't going to be long until this started happening

So when we played Man Utd in the second division that time and had a massive gate -- We now can call this a derby . Don't think so. We only have one derby and that is against "The Shit " End of.

As far as I'm concerned a 'derby' is any game between rival teams that both has a local element and is long-standing. Don't need to be from the same city.
Amen.

Bad fans. Maybe they should do that towards Big Ron instead.

The best derby I ever witnessed was in Rugby League between Hull FC and Hull KR. There was no violence accompanying, as the game itself was ‘hard’, but the banter throughout the city was brilliant. In the days running up to the match people either wore black and white or red and white, and this included loads of people who would never attend, but identified either with east or west ‘ull.

This example does not mean I support the PV definition, I think Shoddy is correct (not as a general rule, just in this case )

All I know is I enjoy to see (non-league) Chesterfield suffer.

I don’t really enjoy to see that with anyone else, I suppose It’s funny that (non-league)Notts County biggest rivalry/derby is Mansfield, with Forest being in a different universe, but our biggest is (non-league)Chesterfield, especially considering they rate themselves so highly:lol:

Unfortunately Mansfield and Chesterfield still has a political background, which makes it one of the most fierce in the country.

At the rate things are going for them, Chesterfield's rivals will end up being Alfreton Town for the next decade or so.

Great Wakering Rovers more like (love that name, say it like Porky Pig)

Joking aside; is there still no light at the end of the tunnel? Has your owner not decided it is easier if you pay the bills before you get taken to court?

Grimsby v Lincoln not a derby then as they rarely sell out BP.
