Fairplay to Morecambe really. Their budget may have increased but it's still probably nowhere near Tranmere's.

Gotta use everything to your advantage when you're already against the odds, credit to them.

About time time wasting was punished by doubling the amount of time wasted.

Time and time again and in a timely manner the sponge should be infused with thyme.

I really like the look of Mendes-Gomes. Even though Morecambe were under the cosh he was working as hard as anyone. Looked good on the ball and was a good ball carrier on the counter attack. Would love him at Bolton but I think he could be straight into the championship this summer even if Morecambe go up.

Tell you what if we give everyone half a season head start again we will be screwed next season. We need to be on it from the start and so do the other teams going up. There’s some really decent sides at league 1 level nowadays. Can’t wait for the new season already.

I'd have probably taken 3rd at the start of the season, definitely in Jan. Getting out of the league was more important than anything else.

As a lot of rival fans told us pre-season, other clubs have got stuck down here. 4 years for Portsmouth in similar circumstances.

Exactly. Pompey for 4 years. I think we may be stuck in league 1 for a few years as we try to develop a completely sustainable model but it definitely feels like we’ve taken the first steps forward in years after the second half of the season.

I dont agree. FV have not bought the club to play in lge 1. May have to consolidate this season and really go for it the season after.
Our recruitment will be interesting Evatt said we wont make the same mistakes as last summer and will be more like the January window where we recruited proven players from the leagues above.
We have players like Comley,Greenidge, Crawford and Gordon who are contracted next season who we will try and move on. And we have offered terms to players who will not get near the first team.....Just squad fillers or players to warm the bench like Delaney and Tutte.
Dont think we will be offering great terms to those players, but its a contract, they can take it or move back down to lge 2 for first team football

As I'm sure you both know, it most definitely wasn't aimed at you, just the Billy Big Bollocks continuing to demean both ourselves and Cambridge despite both club being above Bolton (and I'm sure I'm right here) at all points throughout the season.

I agree they’ll (FV) want promotion again and I’m optimistic our recruitment will be a lot better but if we consolidate this year then really go for it next year it doesn’t mean we will go up. So in reality we could be in this league for at least a few years.... I can’t see us coming back down but if we start like we did this season anything is possible.

Yeah I just wanted to give a bit of balance. I doubt we were ahead to be honest, so you're probably right.

Yeah I'm quite happy for us to work on a foundation. If we jumped straight through the gap is huge from here to the championship. Teams will probably be paying 10-15x more in wages, if not a lot more for the recent prem teams that have been relegated.

I think Bolton and Cheltenham will be ok......Its Cambridge and whoever comes up who will struggle
I liked Bonner and Cambridge last season, but i think they will lose there best 3 players in Hoolihan, Knoyle and Mullin

I think we'll get promoted within 2 seasons, I will be happy to just make top half next season.

It’s impossible to say really until we know who everybody signs and who renews their contracts. As we’ve offered Tutte and Delaney new deals (which surprised me) I’m really not sure where we want to pitch ourselves this season. If they are cheap squad players ... fair enough but we definitely need a bit more quality.

I hope you are right but just look at Sunderland today... they’ve been stuck in league 1 for 4 seasons now I think? Sheff Wednesday are down here, Charlton, Pompey amongst others. Only 3 places to play for. Chances are, Derby will be down the season after ... after a points deduction. I’d love to think we will be in the championship in a couple of seasons but I wouldn’t be putting my house on it that’s for sure.

As always with a club of our size, the expectation at League One level is to stay up. However, unlike our other promotions, we can have a bit more confidence going into next season - especially if we keep Michael Duff.

The previous two times we've been promoted to the 3rd tier it felt like the end of something. In 2002, the players had just achieved 3 promotions in 5 years and gone from playing in front of crowds of 200 at places like Bashley to playing ex-Premier League teams in all-seater stadia. Most of the team promoted at Cardiff that day had played in non-league with us and were also reaching the end of their careers. Cotterill knew it needed a massive rebuild and jumped to Stoke (with our blessing of course) within a couple of weeks of promotion.

In 2006, we were favourites for relegation and ended up winning the playoffs having hit a fine run of form at the perfect time. Staying up for 3 seasons felt like a miracle each time. The first season we did it quite comfortably, but it wasn't exciting to watch. The second season we did the double over Leeds, but we only stayed up because Gillingham, Bournemouth, Vale and Luton were so bad. The third season was a disaster from the start and led to one of our two worst ever managerial appointments (Martin Allen - only Paul Buckle was worse).

This time though it feels like we're just getting started, most of the team that got us up are still signed on already, and as a unit there's no reason they can't do a job. With the right reinforcements (only Ryan Broom and Alfie McCalmont have been linked so far) then I'd like to think we'd be comfortable.

It's defintely a big L1 next season. They'll be Rotherham who yo-yo between the leagues, plus Oxford who've been in the PO's two seasons in a row. Wigan might settle down now their off field issues are sorted, Coleman isn't a million miles off getting Accy into the PO's if he can keep his core players, Donny will settle down and be in and around it, Martin is building well at MK, too.
