If Wycombe do manage to secure automatic promotion Gareth Ainsworth should be a shoe in for League 2 manager of the season all things considered,

It would be a massive achievement for sure but Ronnie Moore would run him close.

To the Southend fan, nah, gutted is too strong.

The way Ainsworth set up his team, signing quality over quantity was always a gamble and it's biting us on the arse a bit now. But you can't fault the team for effort.

When we drew 1-1 at home to Wycombe on game 26, Wycombe were top on 51 points, we were 10th on 38pts, Southend 6th on 44pts

Since then, in 19 games, Wycombe have picked up 30 points
Southend have picked up 40 points
Bury have picked up 44 points.

It's been a poor second half of the season really, there great first half has saved them up to now.

So, Shrewsbury 3-0 Plymouth and Luton 5-0 Stevenage. Probably as much chance of that occurring and Elliot Justham letting in the goal he did today.

After 30 games we had 55 points. That means we only needed to take 16 points from the remaining 16 games to pretty much guarantee a play-off place (if/when Shrewsbury beat Plymouth, that will mean we only needed 14 points from 16 games). It's been a decent first season back, but there is no two ways about it - that is a monumental capitulation in the final third of the season.

Great maths lad, I don't care what everyone else says, you really are one of the sharpest minds on this forum.

I really can't believe that Luton have missed out on the play-offs, I was pretty impressed with you guys back in October, you looked like a very solid team, is there any reason behind your collapse?

I thought it would have more or less been wrapped up today. It's still in Southends hands but the way they are going I can't see them getting anything less than 3 points bogey team or not.

We looked tired today and I genuinely think that we need to go up through the automatics or we'll spend another season in league 2 imo. Got to feel for Wycombe after being on the top three for most of the season. Southend are clearly the team in form but it's one game so who knows??

May the best team clinch that 3rd spot :)

No single reason. To be honest, we rode our luck a bit at times even when we were doing well pre-Christmas. We didn't create many chances and generally ground out results by being solid at the back. That disappeared for various reasons (injuries to Tyler, Doyle, Griffiths and Wilkinson, then suspensions for Wilkinson and McNulty) - the whole unit just got disrupted and never regained their solidity. Once we started conceding goals we were always in trouble as we have struggled to score all season. Our bad run also seemed to coincide with our top scorer putting in a transfer request, told he would never play for us again, only to be back in the team the following weekend. It can't have helped team spirit.

We've also had more than our share of bad luck - we've only lost one game since Christmas by more than one goal. Fine margins, a bad refereeing decision here, an unfathamoble individual error there... if we'd even drawn one of those single goal defeats we'd still be in with a shout. And of course once we built negative momentum it was hard to arrest.

The most fundamental problem is that we haven't been good enough as an attacking force all season. When we played at yours, our best player by a mile was Pelly Ruddock - the only player in our whole squad with pace and flair. Unfotunately he's a sick note - he's hardly kicked a ball since October with a recurring hamstring complaint.

Was going to mention Ruddock, is a name I've barely heard mentioned on the radio in recent times, if his regular level of performance is anything like the sort of display we witnessed at Broadhall Way it'd be a massive miss to any side in this league.

Seems the 3CR League Two sides have all suffered quite badly with injuries and suspensions this season, remarkable that all three have competed at the top end of the league really.

Have just watched Skysports 1. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink - Burton Albion my Barcelona.
The right fit for the right club. Jimmy has done a brilliant job with David Oldfield tweaking the good foundations laid by Gary Rowett and Phil Summerfield into promotion for the club.
Of course Jimmy will go at sometime in the future to bigger things but we are going to enjoy what we have while he is here.

Do you think he will be at Burton for the start of next season.....I am not so sure!

If he fvcks off then presumably Burton get some cash out of it, which they may well need to be competitive at a higher level, so they're laughing either way.

I'd like to think he would stay, but let's be honest Leeds are a massive club and we can't compete in any way apart from stability!

Well if we get a good start we are well capable of getting 3, 4 or 5 goals, just ask Bury(5) ,Accrington (5), Morecambe (4) or Exeter (4) who have been on the receiving end. Stevenage could possibly rest a few players as the result is of no significance to them so quite possible for Luton to get 3 plus goals

I would be amazed if Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is not still the manager of Burton Albion next season.

I'd be amazed if we scored 3 goals, it's more likely that you score 5 than us get the 3 we need in this bargain.

Also just on the basis of the Stevenage fan I know at work, they really, really want to beat us as its viewed as a rivalry for them, and they value good form going into the playoffs. I've no doubt Westley feels the same.

With the disappointment last weekend and 2 of our players getting arrested this week its been a pretty poor week altogether, I highly doubt we get anything.

To be honest I don't really care about Luton, there's certainly an extra edge to the game compared to playing Morecambe or Accrington, if only for the locality, the crowd and the atmosphere when we meet. A lot of our fans do view Luton as rivals now though, can't deny that.

I suspect we'll make a few changes tomorrow and I think both Shrewsbury and Luton will win, unfortunately for the Hatters I don't think there'll be enough of swing in goals for them to make the play-offs but you never know.

Please can Morecambe get something against Southend tomorrow? It would be awful to be relegated the same year Southend come up, I need something to look forward to next year.

I've been far too confident this week that morecambe will get summat. Obviously this means we'll lose to Tranmere which wouldn't surprise me at all.

I have a feeling it might be 0-0 for Southend. However I would say (just to jinx it) that every single promotion for Southend has been secured away from home - so who knows, maybe everyone will lose tomorrow just so Morecambe continue to be a bogey team!

There is still a very small chance that if Luton win 7-0 and Plymouth lose 1-0, both teams would be on identical records - so a play off, play off will have to take place before next weekend. I'll give 5000/1 on that occurrence.

I'd guess it's more likely for Plymouth to lose by more than 1 against Shrewsbury. Plymouth aren't great away from home.

No, we'd need to win 1-0 and Plymouth lose 7-0 for them to be identical records. It's not going to happen.

Come on Southend FFS, don't want to play you next season.

Tough trip away to the unpredictable Morecambe, I stopped betting on them and Exeter. Both teams capable of being total shit, but pull good results off when you least suspect it - See Wycombe last week.

We're doing our bit 2-0 up at Northampton so come on Tranmere and Morecambe!
