Annoying. Outplayed them in the first half without really testing the keeper. The second half we just didn't turn up. Good free-kick, horrible that it was an ex player and we just never threatened.

Poor substition to bring on Rose imo, couldn't hold anything and cost us the free-kick that led to the goal. Eaves should have been the one to bring on.

Looks like it's between Wycombe and Southend now. We've got a small chance but only if both slip up, which tbh I really cannot see. Oh and we've got to win both games. Our players were devastated at the final whistle, I hope Flicker can sort them out for Saturday.

Can one of you please just slip up Saturday so we can mathematically clinch promotion!

There are going to be 2 teams unlucky to be in the play offs looking at the points totals in the league over the last few years. 81 points would have been enough for promotion in 3 of the last 4 years, the only team to miss out with more....Southend with 83 in 11/12. We would have already been crowned champions with our current points total in 3 of the last 4 too, and coincidentally we missed out to Swindon in that same year!

(All means nothing I know!!!)

I think Bury's players were perhaps a bit premature with their 'we are going up' celebrations after beating us last week! even though we only need 1 point I'm not taking anything for granted - the form of the chasing sides has been incredible and resulted in a very exciting end to the season.

Off topic for a moment lads but Worrall and his partner lost their baby a few weeks back. So fair play to the lad for even playing tonight. Always rated him and I hope he gets another promotion on his C.V.

Tinker man strikes again.

Southend defence is quite big, so Flitcroft plays Lowe and Nardiello up top who are both small players who do not compliment each other, too alike. Eaves is a big target man like Conlon for them who held the ball up and brings people into the game, hassles defenders etc.

Mellor was crunched in the first minute, referee didn't bother. It took him about ten minutes or so to shake that off. The midfield of Tutte and Etuhu fell away rapidly when Brown threw those two subs on the pitch on the hour mark. Tutte was fucked, couldn't run and needed to go off as we were getting overrun. So what's Flitcrofts answer? Take off Nardiello for Rose (another like for like swap), which did fuck all to stop the way the game was turning. That substitution right there should have been Eaves who came on (who did later on and did exactly what we needed from the first minute).

In the end he had four up front if you include Soares who pushed up further as the game went on.

Some of our fans need their fucking heads testing if they think this has been a successful season. Flitcroft has an abundance of riches at his disposal at this level (£150,000 on the pitch, £100k on Mayor, hazard a guess and say similar on Adams and maybe on Rose, not to mention Lowe + carrington training complex) and it looks like we're going to finish 5th in the bottom league. Sorry, don't mean to sound a twat but it ain't good enough.

Class act Worrall. Flitcroft had the option to sign him and turned it down.

Cracking win for Southend that. I really don't want them to go up due to locality but there you go, they've been one of the best 2 or 3 sides we've played this season so can't argue with it really.

Bury really threw it at that game. We were fantastic in the first half.

Undone by the unstoppable: a wonderfully placed free kick. Shame about Sarfend's gamesmanship after that but well done for their turnout and all the noise. It's a bit embarrassing that so many of our "fans" decided to walk out shortly after the goal, leaving like 4,000 home fans there all the way to full time. Staying until the end of a game should be considered basic manners in society imo. Meks you wonder how far we can go when a match that was never foregone gets that sort of treatment from so many.

Ho hum, we'll be fine on performances like that. You don't usually get free kicks that good, and you don't normally miss that many yourself, especially that final chance we had that looked a cert from the other side of the ground. My dream of going to Wembley is very much alive.

To state the obvious, but anyone in it is still in it. Tonight's result was the second best outcome for us but it gives us a little more hope than if Bury had won. Our squad is knacked though and absolutely nothing can be taken for granted. The best we can hope for is that we've still got a shot at the autos come final day - I think the playoffs would be a bridge too far for us.

Indeed. I can't believe the entitlement that Bury fans feel towards promotion. They're a good side but there are several equally good or better sides than them - get over it.

No piss off will you. It's not that we can't take a loss, it's the way in which we lose is infuriating.

Last night we battered Southend first half yet didnt score. They had 15 minutes off pressure and scored straight from a set peice. We then went on to squander 3 golden chances in injury time.

We know we are better than wycombe, Burton even perhaps Shrewsbury but we always let ourselves down and shoot ourselves in the foot.

Doesn't help when we have a moron in charge who gets outwitted against any half decent manager.

As long as you know it I think that's all that counts. Football's all about the theoretical victory, who needs points?

Just had a little look at their record - Bury have done pretty well against the top sides but dropped quite a few points (like Wycombe?) at home to teams at the bottom.

That might cost them in the end...

That seems like a ridiculous statement. Your fifth currently and if you finish there its because you deserve to over the course of the season. I agree you have better individual players than most teams, but that dosnt make you a better team.

Boohoo! You forgetting that we battered you for the second half of the game last week and had a perfectly good goal chalked off? Many of your fans said we easily deserved a point. These things happen in football and tend to even them selves out (we can consider ourselves fortunate to have picked up the points away at Mansfield for example...) it's like you think you're the only side who has bad luck and a manager who occasionally makes tactical errors.

I'm not sure why you think you are maybe better than us - we have 7 points more than you, have scored more goals and conceded far less, plus we have beaten you 5-0 at our place and narrowly lost 1-0 at your place. You are seriously deluded.

It's in our hands again now win our last 2 games and we should go up on goal difference. Our problem is what team will we put out on saturday with all our injuries. I prefer being in this position with 2 games to play than this time last season. :ffs: What a difference a year can make in football, whatever happens it's been mainly enjoyable this season.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Bury should never ever have done the old free ticket lark.

Going for the old 'big home crowd' for big game is always suicide for the home side.....usually is for us at Carlisle, moment you go and promote some big must win game and fans turn out in force that is that for the win.

Interesting result as opens 3rd place right up am not sure who will grab it really.

Sido Jombati, Joe Jacobson,Matt McClure all out, Matt Bloomfield ,nico Yennaris and Sam Saunders all had to be substituted through injury last saturday as well, plus a few others are having to play with injuries that they would be rested for usually but we're down to the bare bones now, besides this all is good.

I know after 44 games Burton Albion are the best team in the league, there are 2 games to go and we either still will be or the 2nd best after 46 games. Whatever else I may think is irrelevant as those are the facts !
You really have to give Phil Brown and Southend some respect. They left the Pirelli stadium a few weeks ago distraught and broken having lost a crucial promotion game having lead 1-0 at half time only to lose against 10 men to a last minute winner. That shows bottle and character ! To come back from that, go on the run they have and to find themselves where they are has surprised me but definitely well done.
Unfortunately some(not all) Bury fans seem to think they have a right to promotion just because they have splashed cash they don't have on players. Having said that, I wouldn't like to bet on who will finish third, Wycombe for all their problems are still in the driving seat !

Away from our own forum, I'm not very good at detecting who's trolling and who is congenitally condemned to spout shit. Bury seem to do a lot of it (perhaps even "better than anyone else" at it) or perhaps its just UTS who is colouring my judgement.

Shrewsbury, Burton and Southend have been the 3 to impress me this season so I wouldn't be too surprised to see that as the top 3.

A few then..I hope Saunders is out for the season he has looked a very good signing.
If we finish on 87 points and only make playoffs I will be speechless

Same as that! 81 is our highest points tally which got us pomoted 5 years ago in 3rd place but to not go up on 87 would be harsh.
