We got a parachute payment when we went down. I'm not sure hoe much but i remember reading it somewhere.

We received a parachute payment following relegation to the Conference in 2002/3 which I believe was around £130,000 and was a one season only payment.

I think it's gone up a fair bit since then. The then Hereford Chairman, David Keyte, referred to a parachute payment of £215,000 in 2014.

Think Cheltenham will be fine, back at their natural level really, they'll bumble about in mid-table for 10 years before maybe having another crack at promotion.
I can't actually believe Tranmere have gone down, are they the first team to be relegated from the 3rd tier to non-league in consecutive seasons?
I don't really know about them off the field, that is where most of the battle is won in the Conference, if you go down a basket case it's more than likely you'll have a long stay, but Bristol Rovers have shown this season that you can adjust quickly even after a devastating relegation.

I actually think we're in quite a good position, we've got a chance to rebuild and bring in a new manager (presumably Gary Mills). Off the field we've got a great owner who's already in the process of increasing non match day revenue and has the knowledge and experience to keep attendances up next season. Check out his statement on our website, it's massively improved my mood since the relegation was confirmed.

Hard lines Tranmere, big pressure on whoever takes that job on now. Don't think we'll be waiting to long to see Rovers again, it won't be easy but the feeling of getting promoted back is unbeatable.

Commiserations to Tranmere and Cheltenham fans. The Barrow crowd that I was with today in the Far East of Lowestoft will give you a warm welcome next season and there will be some highlights amongst the dross. I'll look for opportunities to call in and see how you're doing if fixtures allow.

Well done Hartlepool. Looking forward to visiting the Rat Race again already.

We're still on the verge of a Money Meltdown so I can see me seeking solace back here at some stage next season......but we live in hope.

We've never played Tranmere in our history, so it feels a bit strange passing them on the way up.
You need a good squad of workers at Conference level, no team will simply capitulate to you at this level.

Count yourself lucky though, the last two seasons at the same stage you would have already been relegated with that points total.

Since it's been League 2, the lowest points for the team finishing 23rd have been:

36 - Boston (deducted 3 points)
37 - Chester
38 - Kidderminster

I believe the lowest total for the team finishing 22nd was Grimsby in 09 with 41 although 37 and a better GD to Chester would have seen them stay up.

Well, since automatic relegation to the Conference was introduced for the 1986-87 season, (I'm thinking from the point of view of the team outside rather than in the relegation zone, adding one point to the points of the last relegated team) 21 points would have been enough in 1997-98, 42 in 2007/08 (not counting seasons where teams had big points deductions, like Luton in 2008-09). Mid to high 40s is usually the benchmark though, occasionally reaching or surpassing 50.

Just got home from Plymouth. Hasn't quite sunk in yet that I now support a team in a lower division than Accrington fucking Stanley. Signing out of thread (and the league 2 sub-forum).

Bad luck mate; I'm sure your crowds will stay around the same so your home match day experience will still be there, plus a couple of juicy away trips, I know that won't help but you'll win a lot more than you'll lose and you'll get your passion back. Can't see Accrington lasting too much longer tbh . Can't believe Tranmere Wrexham and Stockport are out and Fleetwood Crawley and Morecambe are in, the world has gone mad

Hartlepool will go up next season under Ronnie.
I really don't think they will. They'll be fine under him, but I don't think they'll bring in the quality required to turn them into a top 3 side or even a playoff side. I think they'll have a comfortable mid-table season maybe bobbing in and out of the top 10 now and then.

I'm sure their fans would accept that after the stress they've had this season.

Gutted for cheltenham since i live here! Thought they'd struggle this year when they signed Paul Black off us...

And for tranmere, can remember loosing 2-0 against them last season in the cup and thinking wow what a big club to play in our first season back in the league. Not sure whats happening there but hopefully a quick return for them, a proper league club!

I don't know if it should but it makes me angry that theres so many poorly supported tinpot conference clubs with terrible grounds floating about in the football league and so many big clubs playing awful non-league. Would love to swap the likes of Crawley, Fleetwood, Newport, Morecambe, Cambridge and Accrington with Grimsby, Wrexham, Stockport, Hereford, Lincoln, Bristol and Tranmere. The standard of football in league two seems to have massively decreased over the last decade.

You're joking.

Not that I have anything against Hereford but do you know anything about the two clubs' history?

RONNIE knows what he's doing, first job is to move on the deadwood and work around any he's been stuck with, I don't think Ronnie does mid table... I will wait to see who comes and who goes before making any predictions

Rovers got relegated on the last day with a high points total, as did Barnet, so it's probably no surprise where the two are now.

Yes, Stockport did it in 2010/11, after they made the insane decision to sack a proven League 2 manager in Paul Simpson after being two places outside the relegation zone.
Simpson was shockingly bad as our manager. His short spell included three 5-0 loses and two 4-1 defeats. A lot of the points we did pick up were extremely fortunate. We also lost our two best players (loanees) just after he was sacked and the teams below us had games in hand. It was the right decision to sack him but we were not decisive enough in replacing him.

That's a bit of an odd word to use, angry. It's refreshing that football is now based on results and not the anachronistic re-election system.

Anyway, I'm pleased we're finally credible enough to not be classed under the tinpotters.

No words can ever justifiably express the sheer mortification and frustration that goes hand in horrible hand with dropping in to the Conference.

Nothing in football comes even close to it and no other clubs football fans will ever understand if they haven't experienced it.

Followers of Cheltenham Town and Tranmere Rovers have my deepest heartfelt sympathies.
You'll feel like It's the end of your football world, but this point is likely to be the worst you will feel and when you return you will feel as though you've had a sporting epiphany.

Chins up, you're not the first good clubs to go down and you won't be the last. You should remember that when you're feeling at your worst. And good clubs do return! It might take a few years, but it happens.

And Pools fans.
Well bloody done. A turn around of admirable proportions. You looked dead, buried, last rites, all the tears and the headstone ordered. Top draw escape.

If history repeats itself, Ronnie will have you top of league two next February as he did the season after saving us from relegation!
