All I remember from Wrexham away was hoping I wouldn’t die as chaos erupted everywhere in 2003! Never seen anything like it!

Nonsense. It's your year.

Hughes will be gone by next week if he keeps this up. It usually only takes about 3 consecutive wins before some clueless League One chairman starts eyeing up our rookie manager.

After the Mansfield game There was a thread on our board about us making the play offs. And I think it was only half joking.

Vale do look in the shit. Massive game a week on Saturday,, please bring a lot of fans, it seems to help us play half decent.

Can’t see how Vale will get the points needed to survive, they looked poor tonight.

Despite tonight’s result at Meadow Lane I still see Notts pulling themselves away. Morecambe can pull off unlikely results like tonight.

Two from Vale/Yeovil/Macclesfield will go.

Hopefully last night won't knock our confidence too much, tough game on Saturday though away at Tranny then what is looking like a massive six-pointer v Vale at home.

Solihull Moors is close to me if they don’t go up. Guess once the initial upset is over it will be like our relegation to this level in 2008 for the first time in decades where I will be looking at all the new grounds I can try and do and we will do our usual opening day win and think this could be alright.. then get done at home to Dover or something and the reality will sink in.

Hopefully Smurf let’s us keep Miller... ready made 40 goal man at that level!

That's exactly who we had in our first NL game.

Signed loads of good players for that league, really positive pre season, good crowd in expecting us just to turn up and beat 'em annndddd...we lost 1-0, bullied all over the park. Ended up with 11 home defeats last season, a lot of them to the smallest sides in that division with 10 away fans.

Welcome to hell.

You could exchange Bordeom Wood for most clubs really, although they are maybe the most pointless of all. Only Gateshead, Harrogate, Orient and Chesterfield brought more than 100 to ours this season. Obviously Wrexham will and possibly Salford but that's only because we play them on the last day, otherwise 15-40 is the norm.

Apparently Smurf has stafter tonight he’s worth 130 million quid and we won’t see another penny of his money and mocked the black and gold campaign.

You'll get more away fans as you are in the midlands so let's say 30 as minimum and 80 as max. Enjoy.

That's exactly who we had in our first NL game.
We were away at Promotion favourites Crawley Town with fatty Steve Evans in charge and shit loads of cash behind them.
We beat them 1-0 and I remember thinking after that that we would piss the league.

It is - if you win most weeks and then go straight back up.

I'm not sure we would have enjoyed it as much if we were still down there.

I consider myself an expert on the Connie (well, 9 years down there automatically makes you one) and these are some of the pros and cons of the Motorama National League.

Pros -

1. Win more games than you lose, that is if the club you follow manage to assemble a decent side. This helps with the feel good factor around the club and mostly felt during home games.

2. The fans are more tolerant of their players. There won't be a torrent of abuse aimed at the striker for missing a sitter. No sir, the fans will shrug off the player's ineptitude with a smile and sometimes there's even a round of applause. This is unheard of in the FL.

3. Those of you that prefer standing rather than sitting down - you will deffo get less of the 'hey fella, you're in my spot' nonsense that some 'entitled' grumpy old fans sometimes come up with. Not that anybody should ever listen to these geezers but still.

4. Friendly fans. If you thought us lower league fans were OK just you wait 'til you meet the proper NL fans. They really make an effort to make you feel welcome.

5. If your lot are having a shite year, relegation to the National North/South doesn't sound as bad as relegation from the FOOTBALL LEAGUE sounds now does it?

6. You're away at some godforsaken place? Never mind, the game's most likely on BT Sport.

7. If you support a 'proper' club (Notts/Vale) you'll be admitted into the Brotherhood with no questions asked. It's a bit harder to be accepted if your club is 'not quite tinpot but not exactly proper' either (Camb/Yeovil/Macc/Cheltenham). The Morecambe fans might as well not bother.

Cons -

1. The Motorama National League

2. Match officials. Breakspear and Kettle will be made to look like Collina when compared to the refs they've got down there.

3. The FA Trophy is revered by the traditional NL clubs but vilified by the ex FL clubs. So that's up for debate though personally I think it's not as bad as the Checkatrade. What is just plain wrong though is that it takes precedence over the league games. On Saturdays ffs!

4. No League Cup games, though tbh that's a good thing for my club as we always get dumped out in the first round.

5. You forget that your lot have to play a qualifying round to go through to the FA Cup round one proper. Something that you always took for granted before.

6. BT Sports' so called experts.

7. Pundits wetting themselves over the 'fairy tale rise' of some tiny village club (that used to get no more than 200 fans only a year ago) after they trounce your side 5 nil. Because you just know there's nothing even remotely magical about it all.

Pros -

1. Win more games than you lose, that is if the club you follow manage to assemble a decent side. This helps with the feel good factor around the club and mostly felt during home games. We assembled a so-called good squad and it flunked, badly. It's the mentality you need to change, losing a lot for years takes ages to overcome but the most thing is acceptance that you're there. We're not massive by any means, just bog standard L2 size, but it was still a huge shock and we haven't overcome it yet. Playing at smaller clubs with worse facilities was a head fuck for the players too.

2. The fans are more tolerant of their players. There won't be a torrent of abuse aimed at the striker for missing a sitter. No sir, the fans will shrug off the player's ineptitude with a smile and sometimes there's even a round of applause. This is unheard of in the FL. Not in our case, we have a very hostile crowd and that's been called out by the CEO, manager, current and past players. That is just about starting to change and with it the team's morale and form. Negativity comes about because of the reasons I put above...

3. Those of you that prefer standing rather than sitting down - you will deffo get less of the 'hey fella, you're in my spot' nonsense that some 'entitled' grumpy old fans sometimes come up with. Not that anybody should ever listen to these geezers but still. True. Also if you like pissing in overflowing portakabins, you'll love it the NL.

4. Friendly fans. If you thought us lower league fans were OK just you wait 'til you meet the proper NL fans. They really make an effort to make you feel welcome. Yes but in a quirky eccentric last of the summer wine sort of way. You'll also be told what a pleasure it is to be playing a 'big' club on level footing.

5. If your lot are having a shite year, relegation to the National North/South doesn't sound as bad as relegation from the FOOTBALL LEAGUE sounds now does it? If a southern club goes down, they'll go straight up. The North is much harder and more competitive. That's hell.

I think under Brotherhood rules, Yeovil/Macc/Cheltenham are all tinpotters. Although in my lifetime, Cambridge were always FL until those 9 years as you say and Yeovil are FL size but I don't mind Macclesfield, because they do things the right way. You're right though, Morecambe might as well jump off a cliff.

Cons -

1. The Motorama National League. Doesn't matter on the name, it'll always be the pub league to me.

2. Match officials. Breakspear and Kettle will be made to look like Collina when compared to the refs they've got down there. Trevor Kettle is World Cup level compared to here, yes.

5. You forget that your lot have to play a qualifying round to go through to the FA Cup round one proper. Something that you always took for granted before. Fortunately we still haven't lost in that, the ignominy of doing so doesn't bear thinking about.

6. BT Sports' so called experts. Adam Virgo has an irrational hatred of us, it's proper weird.

7. Pundits wetting themselves over the 'fairy tale rise' of some tiny village club (that used to get no more than 200 fans only a year ago) after they trounce your side 5 nil. Because you just know there's nothing even remotely magical about it all This is disgusting.

Interesting read as the only pro’s I came up with before were not having to play B teams in the Checkatrade and potentially playing Wrexham and Stockport again.

Think it would really hit in that FA Trophy thing when we slide to an embarrassing defeat to Leek Town or Stafford Rangers. That would have to be hitting rock bottom right?

Nah, because at that point you're "focusing on the league".

At least you're losing to a first team full of people who want to play football and not a B team full of players being paid too much who would rather rot in Cities reserves than actually play football.

I hear such mixed reviews it’s confusing and intriguing . Could very well be finding out for myself what it’s like next season !

If you like adding new grounds to your "been to" list it's okay. I did 17 new ones in our first season down there.

The novelty did start wearing off in our 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th season down there though.

You'll also probably outnumber the home fans at a lot of games too.

At the weekend I thought it would be two from five but Morecambe look to be heading away from trouble, again.
Two from four and I think Vale will get some points before long.
Would snap your hand off for a point at Tranmere on Saturday.

I know I sound like a fair weather fan but I honestly think I’ll lose interest in all things Port Vale if we get relegated to non league. Not that I want too, I will just end up attending less games and naturally my interest will dwindle.

The thing is I’m 99% sure that if we do go down we will rot in non league for years to come. There’s no way we’d challenge near the top. It will be an embarrassment.

May sound over the top, but it’s heartbreaking to see us at such a low.

Heartbreaking yes. Not over the top. Any club who has never been in non league before dropping into it for the first time must be embarrassing, the lowest of low points in the club’s history#stained

One of Notts or Vale could easily go this season. We would be following many many others who have already suffered this embarrassing fate
