I have given up. One place left for you to fight over. Tbf despite dominating for large chunks today they looked devoid of ideas. Cod be two big sides that drop this season.

The conference doesn’t care about how big a side is or what it’s done in the past it’s totally irrelevant

Dominated? Please tell me you're joking?

We should've won by 2 or 3, easily. Two outstanding stops from your goalkeeper and one ruled out for a debatable offside. Not to mention Pope missing an absolute sitter from all of 5 yards. Brown made one save with his feet all afternoon and you blazed about 5 efforts miles wide or over.

On that showing, you're finishing bottom.

Another offside?

Even if it does it's still a ridiculous budget. Actually it's reckless unless you gift the money to the club rather than loan it from his company.

I don’t think loan money can be included in the 55% wage rule, has to be income.

I’m pretty sure he was talking about Vale, Dan.

After a few weeks of hope, I’ve again been browsing the National League north and south tables to see what delights we have awaiting us next season on the off chance we don’t go bust.

Chorley FM(coming in your ears) still top the north, the more familiar name of Stockport are second. Something called Spennymoor are in the mix. Some famousish ref came from there, I thought they had made it up. As are Bradford PA(geek voice “did you know Notts County and Bradford Park Avenue may become the first teams to play each other in 5 different leagues?”)

Also Brackley. Isn’t that somewhere off the M4? Now my geography isn’t great, but even I know the M4 isn’t in the north, what the fuck are they doing there? I’m sure we’ll know a lot more next season.

Those doughty giant killers Telford and Altrincham are up there, never played them as far as I know but I’m sure they’ll be adding the name of Notts County to their illustrious list of slayings if they manage to get up. Interestingly enough (to me anyway) Boston are not too far off either. I go there quite a bit to watch my son play kids football. Boston are famous for being the inbreds of Lincolnshire which as a claim to fame is a bit like being the stupidest person at a Forest match. Fair play to them for that.

The Conference south is just too boring to look at further, I mean fucking Woking are top. Torquay are second though, which will be nice for Jon Stead to be mixing with people of his own age after he gets his 38th contract extension this summer. Can’t wait!!

Yes you’re right. That famous northern county of Northamptonshire.

I think once you finally manage it nothing will ever top it, in my lifetime I’ve seen us promoted into League one once and into the Championship twice, yet getting promoted from non league was easily the best feeling football wise that I’ve ever had. Even the drive home felt incredible, buzzing my tits off all the way and then stopped off at Peterborough services and it had been completely taken over by Town fans.

I can't even imagine what it would be like for us when it happens, in 20 years time.

I don’t like to talk about past successes or history but having witness with my own baby blues promotion from all four divisions including an unforgettable Wembley play off victory over Brighton to reach the top flight. Hopefully I can now add promotion to Tier 5 of English football to the list.

I think 4 more points for us and I can officially say goodbye to this thread.

Two home games coming up against Oldham and Crewe so I would expect to reach that points tally over those games.

We really are drinking in the last chance saloon now, it’s a miracle we still have a shot to be honest given what an appalling season we have had. Our 4th or 5th ‘must win’ game of the season coming up on Saturday (currently won none of them) at Cheltenham, where the home side are in good form. But given the other sides down with us all have tough fixtures, a victory will likely put us within 3 points of safety (albeit with a far inferior GD).

After Saturday’s showing v Vale tho, I’m not holding out much hope... :surr:

With that shower, even with our home form, my thoughts are more in the realms of HOPE rather than EXPECT. In fact my highest hopes stretch to 2 or 3 points closer to safety with anything more a bonus.

Mansfield at home on Saturday, would take a point right now if offered, a win would obviously be huge for us. Leagues worst attack against the best defence doesn’t really fill me with great hope but one thing I will say is at least we are threatening teams a bit now.

Probably another couple of wins to be sure.

40 is the current marker based on Macclesfield's current points tally but throw in a couple of left field results from someone, which often seems to happen...

You can only be promoted from 3 leagues in the football league.

True, well pointed out. Hope that clears it up for everyone. To recap that’s 4th tier promoted to 3rd. 3rd tier promoted to 2nd and finally 2nd tier to top tier!

I’ve checked the history books and NCFC have done it multiple times Railway Blue, although I’ve only witnessed it once in my football watching days.

As it stands I think both us and Macc will do well to get to 40.. we'll likely need a point more than two other teams as well due to our GD.

With our goal difference, we'll need to be sure of being 7 points ahead of Macc or Morecambe when we go into the penultimate game for me to relax properly. Failing that, 4 points ahead of Macc or whoever is in the relegation places for the final game.

45 points (6 more points) SHOULD be enough but we never do it the easy way - as we showed at Cheltenham and Yeovil.
