On a side note, Lee Novak is out for 4-6 weeks. That isn’t a bad as first thought.

Blow softened by a successful Jan window.

Except you’re omitting some finer details, but that isn’t unlike you.
Are finer details relevant when someone says something as moronic as "WHY didn't we spend more money in the summer during a global pandemic?"

Most clubs strengthened in the summer, fully utilising the wage cap to its full potential. Bolton and Tranmere are prime examples. Whilst we knew the wage cap was set at £1.5m, any players signed before a certain date (can’t recall the date - can’t say I really care) could be classed at a per annum contribution to the wage cap of c£76k - even if they were signed on £5,000 per week.
Ah yes, Bolton and Tranmere going for it. How's that working out for them? Everything completely fine and no financial implications afoot for anyone in this division as a result of having hardly any gate receipts this season.

I'm convinced the wage cap is being essentially ignored by many who I'm sure have found loopholes, the signed before the end of June/July thing being the most scandalous of those. I'm at the point with football and the EFL that this kind of stupidity bounces off me now.

Whilst no one really knew whether the season would be for fulfilled, we still had over 9,000 fans who had committed to the 20/21 season.
Ah thanks for that, not sure I'd heard about this before mate thank you.

Of course, we could have followed Grimsby’s model of approach, whereby players were signed but wouldn’t be paid if the club weren’t allowed play their games; but I suppose some would deem that to be unethical in light of the situation - I might agree.
How is it unethical when the players are signing the deals? Don't want a COVID clause, don't sign the contract. It's as simple as that. We've missed out on countless targets as a result of that and our squad is shite, but we'll still have a club whatever happens. Probably a fifth tier club, but we'll still have one. Fenty and Holloway can get to fuck, but I still stand by the way they went about things in the summer in terms of safeguarding. Aside from furloughing the ground staff and trying to play the ball on the deck with crap players on a beach pitch...that bit was just so Grimsby.

Whilst our aggregate turnover over the last 10 years is yet to dip below £6.5m, McCall made the decision NOT to fully utilise the remaining budget for what I can only put down to arrogance. He obviously thought the current crop of players were strong enough to compete, and he would then have options to strengthen in January if he needed to.

I honestly do not believe McCall chose not to spend the budget in the summer because of COVID, knowing damn well he’d probably spend the budget only 3 months later anyway.
Turnover means very little though, profit/loss is what we should be discussing. How do you know it was McCall calling the shots on what was being spent? The board obviously has a huge input in this and it's highly likely that as the season has drawn out your board has changed the budget, let's not forget bringing in a new manager will have also changed that too.

We are signing Lewis Ward from Exeter on loan to sit on the bench. Find it abit strange. Exeter Fans, not sure why you'd let your number 1 leave, or why he want to come on loan to be backup. Our number 2 is injured

Yep, this is odd. Ward is a decent ‘keeper but he’s had a couple of injuries since signing so has never been able to get a long run. Perhaps he will sign permanently on a free in the summer and he’s happy to fight for the No1 spot? He’s definitely good enough and is big bugger at 6ft 5.

Jonny Maxted is good enough to fill the gap and he’s been playing regularly of late. Plus I wouldn’t be surprised if we signed Jokull Andersson on loan from Reading to replace Ward, as he was excellent on loan for us earlier this season when both our ‘keepers were injured.

Can Newport stop signing strikers please, I’ll start to think there’s a chance of Amond coming back

Taylor confirmed we’re re-signing Jokull Andresson with Ward going to Portsmouth. Good business for us. Andresson played against us for Morecambe in the week and kept a clean sheet but won’t hold that against him.

Also we’ve managed to tie Matt Jay down to a new contract which will stop him leaving for free in the summer. 12 goals this season and he’s been superb. Also academy players Josh Key, Harry Kite and Chieke Diabate have signed new deals. Key has been excellent at right back and the other two are very highly thought of.

Just need a striker and we’re set.

Again another dig at Bolton without knowing the facts at what we are shelling out
The utter dross we signed on loans and non league will have been on very little money.....granted Doyle and Sarcevic will be on more than the 68k Average that they are classed as.
We have let Gordon and Taft leave on loan. Kioso went back out then went to Northampton....Those three will not be on big money yet we have brought 4 in Kieran lee on a 18 month contract who i expect to be on at least the same as Doyle. Declan John who will be on a decent Contract at Swansea and two youngsters from Lincoln and Huddersfield who i expect to be on very little

Sold Regan Riley today for 250k to Norwich....plus add ons
17 year old i think Norwich have a bargain.
Not even on a Contract and free to leave in the summer
Suppose we have to sell one a season until we are back in at least the championship
Finlay Locket will be the next out the door this time next season

Although I am not sure whether the pitch when a quagmire will suit Telford, I think he is an astute signing for Newport. The last two sides he played for in League 2 got promoted. Not saying he was the major reason in either case, but he contributed and knows what it takes. Last year he looked good, our best striker before Xmas, and then got injured. Three times. On one occasion he had raced thirty yards, beat the defence, was in the process of shooting to score and his hammy went. So he had a lot of injury woes. This year did not get a look in obviously with league leading goal scorer Jephcott.

For a shorter forward he is surprisingly good at holding up the ball from taller defenders - he has a lot of nouse. He is at his best when running on to a pass. He has scored goals from crosses into the box, but I think he is more threatening running on to the ball passed forward. He is reasonably quick. Not lightening, but quick enough to cause issues.

Shows intent that Newport mean business, even paying a small fee. But I do worry about that pitch.

Sam Smith rumoured to be coming in on loan from Reading.

Thoughts Tranmere and Cambridge fans?

He's a 'diamond'. You'll be hoping he'll 'stay'. Don't have money on his mind, he does it for the love so shouldn't cost too much in wages.

I'll get my coat.

How come you do not know what your own players are on when you apparently know everything about the wage bill at Tranmere Rovers. I suspect its because you talk bollocks.

Good player, was for us anyway, ran his bollocks off every game and scored a few, would like him here now if I’m honest.

not really sure he’s good for your team mind, whilst very good and clearly effective You are a big side and like a long ball, if you play to his strengths you’ll have a good signing.

I'm intrigued by this insinuation we're a long-ball team. Long throws maybe, but we play some nice football as well. We're certainly not a launch it and hope for the best team.

Had such a limited opportunity with us that it's hard to give a fair judgement. His best game was probably playing on the left side of a front 3 in the pizza cup.

There was a Chartist demonstration in Mansfield in the summer of 1839. It's documented in one of Dorothy Thompson's books on the Chartists. Elizabeth Cresswell a 43 year old framework knitter joined the political agitation armed with a revolver and was later sentenced to a month of hard labour. I like to think she was pissed up and stumbled out of the Market/Dial/Byron to join the demo.

I’ve only seen you play twice and judging by those I’d say your a long ball team but I wouldn’t take any offence to that, your clearly very good and being a Cambridge fan who specialised in long ball in the 90’s, it can obviously be very effective.

they were never the oldest club in the world - just in the EFL - there's at least 2 older clubs in non-league. Not that most of their fans realised that.

Do they have 'World's 3rd Oldest non-league club' on a big sign at their ground now then?
