Someone on our forum reckons we've 'signed' Liam Ridehalgh who left Tranmere. No idea but we need a LB.

Any good?

He’s been a brilliant servant to the club and I’d have offered him one more year. Wish him nothing but the best if he moves on.

Seems like Luke Joyce is being linked with Oldham. Would be a decent enough signing for them even if last season it became clear his best days are now behind him. So long as they can manage his playing time better than was done at Vale think he'd be a useful addition for them.

Our out of contract centre half Dan Scarr heavily linked with a move to Plymouth. We offered him a new deal but a lot of our fans, myself included, wanted him released. Can win headers but that's it, has a mistake or three in him, can't pass further than 5 yards, turns like a tank. James Clarke, his centre half partner that we actually released was better than him, and so was our 36 year old player-coach Mat Sadler. Bizarre one from Plymouth if it is true.
Lets hope mate lol

Our ex CB Tom Parkes who we released this summer, has signed for Livingstone.

The Scottish league is full of L2 cloggers and Parkes fits that bill. He needs to lose a stone and if he did, he’d do a job.

Very good. Captain, leader, strong contender for player of the year. No idea why he was released tbh. Would be a great signing for you.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if we were after both Stokes and Udoka Godwin-Malife given who our manager is now.

Stokes I can definitely imagine you signing.
I’m sure you’d like Godwin-Malife too but he’s attracting interest from the likes of Preston and Huddersfield according to Twitter. We’ve offered him a new deal so will at least get something or go to a tribunal if he leaves.

Derek Adams to be announced tomorrow morning, so that has obviously triggered player rumours.

Andy Cook, Liam Ridehalgh and Yann Songo’o have all signed. Graham Carey has also been mentioned.

In other words, link any player who lives local, has played for the club/Adams previously - you’re bound to get at least one right.

I’ve been told we’ve spoken to and trying to sign Ex QPR striker Paul Smythe who played at Accrington on loan last season.

Also Bright Enobakhare whom Jackett had at Wolves who has been playing in Greece with AEK Athens.

Graham Carey has signed a new contract with CSKA Sofia so I don't think he's going to Bradford City.

Scott Wootton is available and maybe Derek Adams will try and sign him at Bradford City only because he signed Wootton when he managed us.

Expect we’ll be going back full time for the coming season. We tried part time last season, it was ok, but lack of fitness and tiredness massively caught up with us towards the back end of the season.

Also expect us to stop looking in the northern league for players. We tried the recruiting part time lads like Cedwyn Scott from Hebburn but it didn’t work out. But if you don’t try you don’t know. Lesson learned.

First signing is former Crewe midfielder Brad Walker. Cant say I know much about him to be honest!
That’s a really good signing for League 2, will do well at Vale I reckon.

Can play CM, CB or even RB so the versatility is a positive for you aswell. Got one hell of a strike on him aswell (won our goal of the season for his goal against Cambridge in the FA CUP, well worth a look).

Like I say, very good signing for you boys!

Enobakhare was superb a few years ago when he was at Coventry. They would both be really good signings for this level.

Looks like bolton are adopting a new style of sideways and backwards.
I’m really happy with that one if it’s true. Thought he looked a class above in the games I saw of him this season. Especially in the first game against FGR. What do you guys think of him having watched him week in week out?

He is ok!! but very lazy at times and takes the 30 yard backpass option far to often for my liking, his inability to find a forward pass on a regular basis is one of the reasons flynn did'nt offer him a contract extention last year.

Evatt loves to retain the ball, so he probably suits us in that regard to be honest. A Bolton twitter page did an analysis on him as a potential target and his forward passing looks fine. Doesn't seem to force it forward but will be quite accurate when he does.

Yeah he's definitely not going to help with that...

It is a bit of a concern, particularly from set pieces and stepping up a level. We didn't really cut out chances for the opposition, even when we tightened up.

We are well stocked in midfield now. Mj, Lee, Thomason, Tutte, Sarcevic and potentially Sheehan. Assume this means the links to the lad who was at Pompey were bollocks then.

Another reason he was'nt offered an extention! he either can't or wont tackle so in a lot of ways he is a bit of a luxury player, but i wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Yeah, there has been some talk of Cannon signing, but like you say we potentially have 6. Crawford currently too. We probably need a #10 to compete with Sarce though. Also in that list I don't really see an MJ alternative.

Some quite good comments for Sheehan on the Newport forum.

It’s always interesting to see a fans perspective that sees a player week in week out. As Sheehan was voted into the team of the season by his fellow players and has 2 Wales caps this season so he must have something about him. It’s pretty low risk on a free anyway.

We need to offload Crawford and we still have Comley don’t we? I think Evatt sees Tutte as the MJ back up. Lee and Dapo can play central behind Doyle and we have Politic coming back. Not sure he fully rates Darcy who could also play there.

I don’t think he’ll sign another midfielder if we get Sheehan and could see him switching to a lone DM with 2 centre mids rather than a more advanced attacking midfielder. At which point we have Lee Sarc Thomason and potentially Sheehan competing for those 4 spots. Which is really good depth. I wouldn’t mind Zach Clough back on a free to compete with Sarc if we do keep the same shape.

were you still playing 3 centre backs at the end of the season? If so Evatt has basically played 5/3/2 (or 3/5/2 depending how you class the wing backs) for 3 years and probably won't change.

No mate. We ditched that at end of December and played 4231 when we won 17 in 23. The change in shape was a huge reason why we improved
