Getting a player with a lot of ability in Whitfield if you sign him. Does seem to have had a couple of injury issues towards the end of his time at Torquay though. Probably needs a manager like Adams be on his case as his second spell with us the way he was blowing out his arse after 20 minutes suggested he wasn’t doing all the things a professional should.
That tallies with a story I was told this week from a few lads who’d played against him at a 5 aside kickabout (he’s from Bradford, well Bingley technically), didn’t rate him but said tbf he’d been on the lash all week just before with Tom Pope in Ibiza or somewhere.

Yann Songo’o will finally be announced sometime next week and it sounds like Ben Whitfield from Torquay is also incoming.
Whitfield has been linked with us too. We are supposed to be announcing two on Monday....

Whitfield was never quite good enough in my opinion. Too lightweight and was always knackered after 20 minutes. Amazed that league clubs want him as I thought he would disappear into non league.

Tbf most of the links to us have come from the Torquay end. Our business has been done relatively quietly with no real leaks from our end, which is why I'm more inclined to believe it. And it fits with a teaser the club released earlier about a player returning given he was in our academy.

Midfielders, Lewis Spence,
You have nothing to worry about then with him in your team as he has some cracking moves on him.

Linking us to both Trev Carson and ex Newport Tom King?

More often than not he’s pretty good. Gets the occasional one not come to fruition but I’d give it a fair amount of credibility from him. It’s the ones from Twitter accounts like EFL Hub etc I’d take with a pinch of salt.

I'd be buzzing with Trevor Carson. Might mean Killip is off as well? Carson definite upgrade on him.

We're about to sign striker Aaron Drinan from Ipswich - This looks a terrible signing on paper, for a striker at 23 his goal record in England is shocking!

Averaging 1 in 33 isn't a great record tbf.

Worst kept secret going Ryan Johnson leaves us after accepting a contract elsewhere (Port Vale) we offered him a deal but couldn't match them.

Also been linked with Notts, as we appear to have decided to plunder Torquay for beating us in the play-offs.

Am interested from our perspective how this will play out now if DC is intending on going with three centre backs. If it were just the two he'd be coming here as a backup to Smith and Martin which can't imagine he would have been happy to go from first choice at Hartlepool to that. See how it goes, didn't really catch my eye much on what I saw of you in the playoffs but didn't do anything bad either. Suspect him being able to move closer to his family in Birmingham might have swayed him.

More money, bigger club and closer to home is probably the factors, this had been sorted well before we got through the playoffs, I wouldn't play him in a back two, he had his worst two games for us playing in a 442, we got pumped both times and he looked like he had his feet on backwards, much more comfortable in a back three.

He's had a solid season with us and would've loved him to stay but those are the breaks, best of luck to him, hope he does really well.

Tranmere Rovers will either sign one or more players tomorrow or they will not. That is the best i can offer as far as we go.
This applies every day.

Agree with Rocka regarding Johnson, great in a back three with him being a left footer, gives good balance to the defence.
Flat back four with the ball over the top,he’s fecked.
Made the step up from NLN relatively easy, you’ve a decent player there.
Thats five ex Pools with you now.

We reverted to a back 3 and oddly went from 3 wins in 25 on a crazy run of 8 wins and a draw in 9 so imagine that will be in the plan although that does leave an issue of Dave Worrall, arguably one of our best assets and where to really put him.

Yeah Johnson was absolutely desperate in a back 4 alongside Odusina. He needs to be in a 3 with an experienced head. He said he messaged Gary Liddle after every game thanking for his help which is a bit erm weird.

Rodders, Dan Jones, Johnson, Darrell who’s the other?

His only goal in English league football came against us and that was only because Olly Lancashire fucked up massively and gifted him a sitter he couldn't miss.

Aye which is precisely why I'm wary of going with that formation. It plugged a massively leaking hole last season but although Worrall was still decent he wasn't quite the potent attacking threat he was when playing more advanced. Would also be cautious until got proof that Gibbons has properly recovered from that hamstring injury. Last thing we need is to risk him doing that in again.

THE Brad Walker :fl::fl:

Bloody hell, can’t believe he keeps getting pro contracts.

I remember you saying he was bad when we signed him 4 years ago and he was poor in our crap League Two team. He suddenly got a move out of the blue to League One because Sam Ricketts had him on loan at Wrexham and wanted to take him to Shrewsbury with him which absolutely baffled me.

I genuinely believe it's because of his height, his versatility and he loves a long range goal and that's it.

I don’t think you believed me then either!:lac:

So he left a good impression then is what we're saying...?

Never seen him play though apparently Shrews fans didn't mind him from comments have seen about, all comes down to what they're asked to do etc I guess. There is one theme throughout all our signings so far and that is they are all over 6ft. Add in Dan Jones long throw and Worrall/Conlon on set pieces it seems we are going to try and Pulisball our way through the season.
