These so called fans need to start living in the real world. These are probably the same idiots who were jumping up and down last season because we didn`t get the Cowleys, Paul Cook or Nigel Adkins in as manager. There`s nothing they like better than writing players off before they even tie their boots up. We must hold the record for having the biggest percentage of total knobheads in the fanbase. After Notlob of course. Muppets !!!

Not only do I think we can match you on that, I'm confident that other posters on here will say the same about their forums. We're league 2 with league 2 budgets.

Tom Pett signed from Stevenage on a 2 year deal.

Reckon we'll have a 90/95% compete squad come Friday.

Kept that one quiet, pretty good player from memory.

If the one about Benning is true and the Andrade rumour also we're looking not too bad I feel.

How big is your squad now? Seems like every other day you’ve got a new player! Good to get them all done early though

We only had about 9 players potentially on the books after most were released or placed on the transfer list to be fair!

It will be a lot smaller than last year. Clarke swung the axe releasing 15 and told another 3 to find another club.
Got us as having 21 inc 2 keepers so 19 of the 22 man squad limit and 3 of those on the transfer list so room for another 5 signings. 2 strikers needed, 1-2 full backs and a winger and we should be done.

i have been impressed with all of our business one way or another but this one really feels quite big to be honest.

if we can get benning in that defence is looking significantly stronger. genuine competition all over the pitch now, except for maybe a specialist right back to cover for gibbo until he's fit.

Pett is a good signing for Vale.

More of a technical, ball playing kinda player who'll keep things ticking over and chips in with the odd goal. Can look a bit out of sorts in a physical game but that's mainly because he's not the tallest rather than being lightweight. You'd put him down as decent at most things rather than outstanding at one or two, which isn't bad if you're looking for a consistent, dependable CM.

Not athletic enough for L1 football for us two seasons ago but he should have had a little more game time because other options weren't great.

Pett and Conlon should be a very good midfield, plenty of goals looking at it.

If we can secure Benning I would be very happy with the business so far.

Isnt he decent?

He is. I was holding out hope that he would re-sign with us but with the number of central midfield additions and new contracts for Smith and Lines I think we knew he was off elsewhere.

His signing back in November along with the appointment of Dean Wilkins in December were massive contributing factors in our upturn in form.

He's good on the ball, technically sound and works hard. He doesn't have masses of pace but he's not slow either. You'll get more of him centrally I think, in his first spell he was often stuck out wide which didn't get the best out of him in my view. Only thing I say has stopped him going on to a higher level, is the number of goals he gets, for a player you'd consider as a more attack minded player he's never struck double figures. Despite that he's a good player - I'd definitely rather have him part of our side than see him with someone else lets put it that way.

Will be a good signing for you I think.

if i was being a right greedy guts i'd want a back up right back, a back up cdm and a first choice LW (Andrade?), although we could always play worrall there with amoo rw, or rodney starting as a winger. maybe pett can play deeper, according to the write up he has previously. and Smith is good at RB for a game or two but i wouldn't want him to play there for months at a time. I'm not desperate for a LB really but we have to sign benning if we get the chance

pretty much ready to go though now

Just looking at the midfield options am wondering if we might be looking at a diamond on occasions. Also wouldn't rule out Jake Taylor, I'm really hoping he sees this season as a fresh start and is hitting the ground running from the start of pre-season training. Get him back to how he was when he first came on loan would be a huge boost.

Nothing official on that yet. Was posted on Twitter by someone that he's apparently signed a contract with us (which is a little more definitive than just interested) but will wait for any announcement on that.

Elsewhere see Salford are on the verge of selling Hladky to Ipswich. Probably their best player so that will be a huge void to fill but no doubt they will flash a load of cash at someone like Vigaroux.

Benning would be a good signing we need a left back or even two Max Melbourne is rumoured to be a possibility thought you might have been interested as well Clarke bought him here on loan from Lincoln pretty decent full back be satisfied if we did sign him Salford don't seem to have done as much business as usual so far from what I've seen.

Will say this about Vales recruitment we haven't so far taken the lazy option of taking on players from either Flitcroft or DC's former clubs. I think what helped to cause Askey's downfall ultimately was he went too far down that road with his ex Macc players. Benning if he were to join obviously played under Flitcroft but was also a very good player under him so no complaints on that.

Seems that way with Salford but no doubt they will go throwing money around before too long. I think they brought in a player from Newport but can't think of much else they've done.

We've apparently turned down a 5 figure bid for Alfie May from a League 2 team. Assumptions being made that it's FGR, because they're the only club that exist according to a minority of our fans.

As for Alfie - he's easily replaceable. Can score out of nothing, but by God is he infuriating with some of his misses. Only really seems to turn it on against the decent teams. I don't want to see him go, but I wouldn't be too upset if he does.

I’m comforting myself with the thought that everyone else is signing up all the crap whilst the good ones are holding out for a good deal!

Our Academy players were back today.

Pleased with Benning. The Vale defence looks pretty decent to me now. The only real question mark remaining is Gibbons and his hamstring. Makes for some decent competition on the left side of our defence anyway between Benning and Dan Jones.

Mal only managing a one year deal in L2? Surprised by that.

I assume it was more his decision at this stage as most deals we've offered have been 2, maybe wants to see if we go up for a longer stay or will look to go L1 if we dont. Probably have a year option, we generally like that clause.

Luke Joyce gone to Fylde. For those Vale fans (not on here) who were criticising DC for releasing all the out of contract players if that is the best level one of the better ones in him can find that might suggest we made the right call...
