Joleon Lescott and Alex Bruce were at our game the other night. Maybe we’re trying to get them out of retirement, we need a CB or two…

They weren't there for a bacon buttie thats for sure. Any old players are ours if you don't mind. We need to keep up our quota of seasoned pros.

Well, he hardly fits the mould for the direction we are going under Clem/Garner. Whether that’s the right direction, of course, remains to be seen.

I’d imagine L2 is the most difficult league to get out of playing possession football with half a team of young players.

Whatever, Power has gone and that’s good enough for me - for a while at least.

Any Swindon fans about to fill us in on Matt Palmer? Seems like he’s had a bit of a tricky spell with yous, but on paper also looks like a decent signing for us in the Vanarama.
He was very good when on loan with us and I thought he would develop into a very good player but his career seems to have gone nowhere I’m surprised he’s dropped out of the EFL

You are very welcome to him.
Really? As your top scorer in the division above?

What makes you say that?

As Dan has pointed out it would be a very Garner thing to do. At least he’s 33 so it’s natural, but let’s just hope none of your better players are older than 26, doesn’t matter if they’re the best L2 player, they won’t get game time

Pitman is immobile in the extreme. If your game plan is to have a statue goal hanging he’d probably knock a few in. He’s also probably a top earner. Where other contracted, but unpaid, players turned up for training and playing friendlies, Pitman stayed home - or wherever he was. He can fuck right off as far as I’m concerned.

Fair enough. We’re in need of an experienced number 9 who’s a natural finisher to complete our front line.

In a 4-2-3-1 we’d have Luke Thomas, Aaron Collins and Sam Nicholson all behind that number 9 causing absolute chaos.

Without that number 9 though I think there’ll be lots of huff, puff and pace but lacking and end finisher

Couple of things really -

Based on what Garner and the new chairman have said, we want to play slick attacking football, given Pitman is virtually a statue I can't see him being of an value in a side like this. Our young striker Parsons looks like a ready made replacement. Raw and young but much more likely to fit the bill than Pitman.

Secondly his behaviour when we were going through the takeover and the players hadn't been paid their wages for 2 weeks. Himself and Jonathan Grounds, who I would guess are the highest paid players at the club refused to train, whilst the other 6 senior players got on with it, trained and played pre-season games, almost certainly without insurance so a huge risk, and yes, I can understand why players might not want to take such risks but for me during bleak times you at least show some kind of effort, Pitman just flatly said, nah I'm not bothering.

The man will score goals for sure but as far as I'm concerned he can do it at another club. Given he's had no pre-season and is literally a pie master, it's going to take him some effort to get him match ready.

If you’re a pro footballer and you are not insured then you 100% don’t train or play.

As much as Swindon fans don’t like to hear a player is refusing to train or play they have to think of themselves in that situation.

I absolutely understand his point of view SVH and completely empathise. However 6 of our other senior professionals took this risk and the 2 that probably could manage without a salary for 2 weeks decided to totally cut themselves off from the club and stay away. Perhaps I'm being a total sap here, but even a token gesture of just being around the training ground to support the youngsters or something would have been better than just choosing to stay at home.

Horses for courses.

Tranmere Rovers giving another 30+ player a chance to make a career in the game. Sam Foley becomes our 8th over 30 squad member.
Was brilliant for us 12 years ago when we were promoted from NLS to NLP.

If he is only a squad player and comes on late in the game (Micky Mellon rarely makes changes before 65 minutes unless forced to do it) and gives it all he has got we will like him. Lazy does not cut it.

He left us a long time ago rob!! so i can't comment on his attitude now, but when he was with us lazy is the last thing he was.

One of our trialists the other night was Alex Perry, previously of Wigan.

No idea if he's any good but let's hope he's a world beater.

That is a good thing. We had a fair amount of talented players last season but effort wasn't always a strong point. That is important down here at the deep end.

Alan Nixon has pretty much confirmed Brett Pitman and Jonathan Grounds are leaving. Good to get what will be high earners off the wage bill.

Pitman will get goals at this level and Grounds occasionally looked a decent ball playing centre back.

Hello stranger

We've made some decent signings on paper. Could do with a number 9. We have lots of direct players at the moment, nobody that can hold the ball up.

No you are completly wrong.....We went through the same thing two seasons back when on the opening day of the season when 2 players got off the bus and refused to travel on the opening day of the season
Both never played again and got good moves
Those players should have stayed on the bus and played ............Why you may ask
Because they are football creditors they WILL get paid in full for every game they played

You’re being very kind to Grounds, there. Almost every game he threw in a dreadful cock up or 2. My heart always sank if he was on the team sheet.

Rhys Bennett has turned down our contract offer and signed for Gillingham.

Disappointed but not surprised. I think he is good enough to be at League 1 level.

Hopefully young Morgan Feeney can step up and fill his place for us this season.

If they were both insured to play then yes they should have got on the bus and played. However, if a player isn't insured from a career threatening injury then absolutely they have the right not to train or play.

There was/is no proof they were not insured. All that was certain was that they were paid 2 weeks late. 2 fucking weeks.

Looks like we're signing Mampala. The latest hint GIF is something about a trial and since he's the only trallist.

Sounds like he's been decent in friendlies so should be a good signing.

I'd stopped thinking in terms of us having an outstanding offer for him weeks ago. He said the offer we made was insulting something like two months ago, a couple weeks later it sounded lke we'd come back with a better offer but that was just a hunch and nothing further was said, he was on trial with Burton a couple weeks back so I think he was never going to sign for a League 2 club, not even Barrow.

He has been good in the friendlies. He has a great touch, as shown for his goal at Workington and his assist for Toure at Kendal the other night.

Woupd have liked to see him against better oppo, but beech has obviously seen enough in training matches to think he’s up to the required level.
