We've signed midfielder Liam Kelly from Feyenoord. Formerly of Reading, and a loanee at Oxford. Signed on a 2 year deal.

Seems a good signing for us, but makes me wonder if someone is on their way - Aaron Morley and Conor Grant are more than capable at (at least) L1 level, while young Ethan Brierley played for Man City's age group teams for a couple of months last season, so they could take a closer look...
We had Liam Kelly training with us in pre-season but i suspect us signing Louis Reed put paid to that. Not sure how his career trajectory can go from a talented player in the Championship at Reading to a massive club in Feyenoord to playing in League 2 but I'm sure at this level he is bound to be different class.

Seems like he can play left back, LWB, left midfield and up top. Hopefully he’s decent for us.

Think that be a good signing, I was always a fan although I was surprised he spent so long in L1

Or even non-league money generally, majority of clubs in L1 and 2 are being outspent by a handful of conference clubs currently.

Who else besides Wrexham, Stockport and Chesterfield is throwing money at it then? It does seem a bit of a gamble when there's only two promotion spots up for grabs and of course one of the those is via the lottery that is the play off system. Wrexham should be fine if they miss out this season because of that Netflix doc but I'm not sure what it would mean to the other big spending sides.

Didn't seem to ever be fit enough when he was at Oxford last season

Tbh £150k is absolute peanuts in this market, I’m surprised Lincoln and others are being so stingy?

I personally wouldn’t let him go for that, we so short up front and we won’t get better so I don’t see the point. £150k is so little I’d rather let him go for free in the summer and have him as an option playing.
Not sure it's being stingy, I think it's trying to find money after a pandemic!

I don't know too much about him tbh so couldn't tell you whether he's worth that sort of money. I get the impression there's a player in there, but needs playing wide rather than as a striker.

Signed Colin Daniel from Burton on a one year deal.
No idea what position, hopefully left back or wing back
It’s a good job he wasn’t playing last Saturday for you.

He is named SIR Colin Daniel in parts of South Bristol.

However around the Mem his name is shite.

Yeah he was only ever on the bench with them. Can take a decent set piece but don't think they were massively impressed with him.
I don’t remember seeing him play for Oxford in their games v us so no judgement on him, yet. Using social media as a barometer Reading fans rate him, Oxford slate him and weirdly I’ve seen some Feyernoord fans say he’s good. WWiki says 1 appearance for Feyenoord so they’re taking the piss/Wiki is wrong/He played in their reserves?

The Feyenoord fans are probably high (stereotype alert) so not sure you can take what they are saying at face value!!

Meh.

It gave us some good away days then 2 successive promotions. Id take that than spend what must seem like an eternity in L2....

What happened to Jack Baldwin, he looked like a really talented player for us, so much so that Peterborough forked out £500,000 for him.

Looks devoid of confidence. Always likely to drop a bollock each game. I had reservations when we signed a (then) L2 sub (at Salford) for L1.

There’s a whole host of players that have gone to Rovers with decent reputations only to end up piss poor. Wonder why?

Apparently Tranmere are keen on making a bid for Gime Toure.

I know he's not been regular starter since the opening months of last season but I've always thought we could get more out of him.

He's not consistent but any player with ability like that at this level isn't consistent, or else he'd be playing in at least the championship.

If he does go he'll probably do well if properly used, I do feel that teams to do well at this level know how to use flair players.

It's the Gime Toure cycle.

Starts well, looks the absolute nuts, skinning players, nutmegs, all the flicks and tricks, gradually he turns into a disinterested moody frustrating player to watch and then he leaves for another club to start all over again.

After he tore us a new one last season I was stunned he wasnt in the squad for our game last week to be honest!

He's never looked disinterested to be fair to him, and for a winger he does track back and do his fair share of defending.

I have hopes for him this season, assuming the Tranmere rumours are just waffle that is, that we have a couple of forwards in clough and mampala who can work well with him. If our forwards can play to the best of their ability we could be a more flair attacking side this year.

He didn't take the covid lockdown well, which I can sympathise with as while all our other players were spending time with family, He was stuck in a one bed flat in carlisle on his own with his family all in France.

The Toure to Tranmere rumour apparently comes from a Twitter account with limited history and nothing they’ve posted has been right…so far.

We do need another wide player and some pace, so not beyond belief though. The way things are looking no more squad additions before the weekend.

Toure isn't really pacey tbh, he's not a slouch but for a winger I wouldn't call him fast.

Nothing concrete but the latest for us is Kyle Joseph From Swansea on loan strange one as he played 18 games in League one for Wigan last season scoring 5 goals Swansea only signed him in June for around half a million in compensation so not sure if this is genuine or not yet but a couple of our fans spoke to our chairman at an academy friendly a few weeks ago and a young unnamed striker from Swansea was mentioned it's resurfaced again but from a different source this time.

A waste of two years for Andrade. Will be a good signing if he can get back into the groove.

Maybe the location worked better for him, and perhaps these clubs did, but I'm surprised a Bradford, Mansfield, Tranmere etc didn't have a sniff.

In his pre match press conference John Yems said we are still in the market for an experienced player and have 2 or 3 in mind. He did say one was training with us which I'm presuming would be Mark Marshall or Joe Lynch.

Now, both of those looked good in the friendlies but the positions we don't need filling are wingers and centre backs. A box to box midfielder or a back to goal striker is where I think we are light but as always; one signing can suddenly make the whole team gel or fall apart.

A Walsall fan on our forum seems to think we are discussing with someone from Plymouth. No names mentioned.

Interesting would it be a loan or on permanent for the unknown player from us because we do need 2 strikers in ourselves.

I have no idea, the post just says ;

'Just been talking to someone who says player from plymouth here today talking to club after game doesnt now who tho'

Id take it with a pinch of salt to be honest, these rumours are rubbish 99% of the time, especially with the 'in the know' brigade on Up The Saddlers.
