Presumably he won't be tonight as he played 90 minutes yesterday. I imagine the Southend team sheet tomorrow night will be the clearest indicator of where his future lies.

I reckon Southend have to be strong favourites now, they tick the boxes that Blackpool/Notts County didn't - higher league, favourable geography. It's exactly the kind of move he's been holding out for you would think, we always knew this was a possibility. I imagine wages offered would be fairly close, so the only significant thing we've got left in our favour is the backroom staff (and perhaps some job security depending on how firm Southend's interest is).

We've signed Wes Fogden on a 2 year deal, pleased with that, he was a player I rated when I saw him at Bournemouth. We seem to be quietly building a half decent side, though still worried about our strikers.

Josimar lima is training with Notts. Cape Verde international, 6,3' centre back

You'll love him, just keep him fit. He's actually been training back with us for a little while to get himself in shape, so hopefully he'll hit the ground running with Yeovil now. Not sure what formation you guys play now, but his best stuff for us was playing centrally between midfield and a centre forward. He can hassle the opposition central midfield and defence and will invariably force mistakes and open gaps up.

He'll also get up and down the wing all game if used out wide, but his crossing wasn't all that.

Got to say, I would be absolutely gutted if Craig didn't sign now having seen him play for us twice. He is that missing jigsaw piece.

TBH with all the new signings i'm not sure even we know what sort of formation we play...

Very happy with Fogden though and quietly optimistic about the squad we've built. Proof of the pudding etc. though

Will just point out to Luton fans that Brown met Noel Hunt yesterday and they had 'positive' talks and whether he signs or not is all going to come down to finances. If we do sign him (looks more we will side than we won't) I'd largely doubt we could afford CMS aswel if we can then great I'll be betting on us going reaching play-offs

Fogdens alright and will give it all for you but he's not a top half of the league kind of player. Sounds harsh considering what he gave to us but he's abit of a headless chicken.
Fogden and Bird = very underwhelming signings. I don't think Yeovil will go down but it could be a struggle this season.

That's the important bit for me, something we seemed to be sorely lacking last season. Realistically the aim this season is to stop the rot, and signings like Fogden are the sort that will get the fans on side because of their high energy style, even if they aren't technically good enough for a team pushing for the top 7.

Very happy with Fogden though and quietly optimistic about the squad we've built. Proof of the pudding etc. though

Always nice to sign a player you don't have to Google! Slightly worried by his lack of a Youtube highlights video though...

If Southend don't, someone else will step forward with interest. Not sure why there's a thought of a meltdown. We all knew he was looking for bigger and better and hoped we might pull it off. I was 50/50 at best if he'd stay and then 50?50 on how he'd fare form and fitness - but if it was a freebie it was worth the gamble of training trip and a couple of matches - and he hasn't gone yet.

I am pretty sure John Still is smart enough to have a backup plan in his back pocket.

100% correct - but it will still be a bit gutting if he does go.

We must be Cat A for all the stupid clubs who categorise games in L1 or L2, all that exotic international flair and mystery.

Gas fans whats Nathan Blissett like? Been a few rumours today that we might sign him and I know nothing about him, in fact never heard of him, I'd assume he's cheap back up as a forward isn't our priority at all.

I have to say, I didn't see anything like this coming. Big Bliss hardly set the world alight in the Conference and hasn't proven himself in League Two, so I would be shocked if a League One side came in for him.

Our manager said last night we have received no interest in any of our players and he didn't want to lose anybody. He talked about Bliss quite a lot, commenting on how he is 'never going to be my best player technically, but what he offers is something that the other strikers here can't'. That sums him up perfectly, really. He can't finish a lot of the time and his first touch is non-existent - he honestly has no idea where the ball is going to go next when the ball comes his way - however, he is a physical presence and his unpredictability often makes him very difficult for defenders to stop.

I'd like to think we'd keep him, but if we were offered a transfer fee (he cost us upwards of 60k from Kidderminster last season) it may tempt DC to sell him.

Paul Connolly, Ashley Vincent, Iffy Allen and Wilson Carvalho are currently on trial with us at the moment and all played in the friendly against Truro.

I agree with your description entirely. I thought he was dreadful when we had him. The fact we didn't keep him when we were crap tells you a lot!

Really hope Iffy gets a chance, quick and skilful attacker/winger who came through our youth system. Suffered a broken leg 12 months ago and never really got a chance to get into the first 11, only claim to fame I can think of is that it was his challenge that led to Edgar Davids punching someone on live TV.

It looks like some of us U's may get our wish for an alternative keeper. Chris Dunn injured his Achilles in the warm-up last night and Richard Money is "searching for goalkeeping cover" - provided that's not back up for Beasant, who looked both spectacular and dodgy, it may be a blessing in disguise.

Jack Smith (ex Millwall and Wimbledon) got a run out as a trialist full back option but failed to impress. Omozusi looked fine and comfortable switching to left back.

It is clear that we still need a full back as well as a keeper. Apart from the dodgy penalty, our 2 goals conceded last night came from (deja vu) right wing crosses against poor old Greg Taylor at full back, as did Lowestoft's on Tuesday.

I think Fogden's an excellent signing for Yeovil if they can keep him fit. Very energetic midfielder and won't give up a lost cause.

Passley is a decent signing for Daggers, too. Gets forward well and not too shabby at the back.

We had goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet on trial on Thursday night. I don't see the need for another keeper here; perhaps just covering for Mark Tyler while he's recovering from injury. Seemed fairly solid when called upon, but didn't really have much to do. Formerly of West Ham's academy; was playing in Turkey's second division recently. Harry Redknapp was interested in him for QPR fairly recently.

The latest on Craig Mackail-Smith is that he didn't turn out for Southend United last night, which isn't very surprising considering he played 90 minutes the night before. Does seem to be some rumour that the deal for him to join Luton permanently has been done and Luton are holding back an announcement for commercial purposes. Don't know how much truth there is in that. Will be interested to see whether he travels down to Peacehaven today.

You should work for Sky Sports.

CMS might have or might not have signed for Luton. We'll have the full details when we actually know something.

We've got Shaun Miller on trial. Former Sheff Utd, Crewe and Coventry striker, his record in the last few years looks terrible.

Fraser Franks signs for Stevenage. Sub-par League 2 defender, I was pretty sure he'd drop back down. Okay as squad cover but if he's your first choice you won't make the play-offs IMHO.

Obviously reserve judgement until he's played a few matches for us but I can't say I'm particularly excited by this signing. With Franks signing we now have 6 defenders in the squad and that includes young Ryan Johnson, so I'd suggest he's competing with Mark Hughes for a place alongside Dean Wells at centre back at this moment in time.

Sounds like you could do with a pint of bitter Womble?

I have a good quote for you from our programme last night versus Norwich. "Let me reassure you. Don't listen to the scaremongers, or opposing clubs. We've worked hard to create a business that allows the club to punch above it's weight. That's got nothing to do with Manchester United."

Why make a comment when you have no idea where our revenue streams come from then.

Quick question, how come you predicted us to finish in the play-off's?

Where do your revenue streams come from then? If you have such a stellar business model which allows you to punch way higher than your attendances suggest you should be, without dipping into the FA cup fund, why is Cambridge United the only club to do this?
