Jimmy Keohane any good Exeter fans? Apparantly on trial with us.
Saw this the other day. He's best in the 'number 10' spot playing just off the striker but also did alright playing as part of a central midfield 3. His game is all about hassling the opposition and pinching the ball off them to start attacks. Techinically, he's really not that great. He notched a few really decent goals for us in his 4 years for us but just didn't score and create enough for the position he played in to feature on a regular basis.

I'm surprised you'd be interested in him to be honest as I expected him to either remain in this division or drop down to the conference. He only ever really showed flashes for us and never for a prolonged period of time. Contrary to popular beliefs amongst City fans, he was given more than enough opportunities to really nail down a first team place but he just didn't do enough.

Ultimately, were you to sign Jimmy, you'd be getting a player that was deemed not good enough to even make our bench when we had a fully fit 18. He may come good for you though, who knows.

Wesley Atkinson - right back / right midfielder on a 1+1 deal. Has done well in pre-season by all accounts.

Wes Atkinson has signed on a one year deal with an option to extend. Did well in pre-season.
Possibly Hoyte to follow + "that" striker.
15 signings so far. I just hope we start to ship some out as if we don't it could impede our January window signings.

He was on loan with us last season but barely played. Looked decent from the very little we saw of him though. Think he could be a good little player for you.

We've sold Lee Angol to Peterborough. Undisclosed fee, although a usually extremely reliable ITK type on our forum has just claimed the fee is £40k + add-ons and a 25% sell-on clause.

If that's anything close to accurate, we've played another blinder in terms of getting fees for our players. We signed him for nothing 12 months ago and didn't pay a penny towards his wages as they were covered by Boreham Wood all season. I was expecting about £10k for him if it went to tribunal!

And we dumped him for not being good enough after he joined us after Spurs released him. :ffs:

What's strange is that every Luton fan I have seen post online or spoken to personally who has seen him play while at Boreham Wood has expressed major reservations about his ability to make it at League Two level. A poster on our forum who works within our youth set-up has been saying since about January that Angol wasn't particularly rated by our coaching staff. I have no idea how he has ended up with the interest in him that he has had this summer.

Obviously reserve judgement until he's played a few matches for us but I can't say I'm particularly excited by this signing. With Franks signing we now have 6 defenders in the squad and that includes young Ryan Johnson, so I'd suggest he's competing with Mark Hughes for a place alongside Dean Wells at centre back at this moment in time.

When he left us three years ago, he'd been suffering with injury and dropped down to Conference South with Welling but had never shown anything special. To be perfectly honest I thought non-league would be his limit, so he's done well to get his fitness back and get back into the League, but very much a fairly cheap squad player I'd think.

GOG has got it spot on really. I am surprised Keohane is trialling with you as he's fairly average at L2 level. Good luck to him as he works his socks off but he's a bit meh overall. No real pace, strength or skill for a player of his type.

Just noticed that Justin Hoyte played for us at the weekend. Theoretically he should be excellent in League Two and we really need a right back, i'm in.

Notts County's squad is ancient! Carroll 37, Jones 38, Smith 34, Swerts 32, Stead 32, Jenner 31

It's not really. We've got a squad of about 28 and you've picked out 6...one of which doesn't even play for us anymore. Jones was released. Average age is something like 25, I worked it out a couple of weeks ago, and that's excluding the 3 first year pros we have who are all 18.

Pilkington and Edwards?

I don't see any news on Jones being released.

It was indeed us who has a bid for Howells turned down by Luton, we offered £50k and Luton want £150k, expect a 2nd bid and Howells to join us.

Personally I think £50 is to much for Howells and it's definitely good business for Luton.

As for us and no matter what the club says, it's so obvious we're spunking all the cup money, a club like ours just can't sustain the amount of money it's currently pumping in, promotion or bust!!!!

Edwards is registering as a player so he can qualify for a testimonial next summer, which he deserves in fairness. With the squad turnover we have, fuck knows how a player has managed to do 10 seasons in my lifetime. He won't play though, he's purely just the fitness coach - horse's mouth and that. As for Pilks, no idea, he played a few behind-closed-doors games last season and that. Either way, he'd be 3rd choice keeper - no idea why anyone would include him to try and prove a point.

Less than £50,000 to a promotion rival would be a steal but I'd meet in the middle and flog him for £100,000. Especially with him out of contract in 12 months time.

I'd take £50k to be honest - I can't see £50k being a "steal" for a winger with no pace, no consistency and (penalties aside) no goal threat. I'd hope for more but have no real qualms if we sold at that price. If we get £150k for him I'll start to think that Gary Sweet is some kind of miracle worker.

Surely no room in the Cambridge squad for Shane Ferguson and Jake Howells?

Shane Ferguson would be a class signing. Ferguson, Donaldson, Newton and Jeff Hughes as wide player options - not bad.

Im one of the people who don't rate Howells so I'd have taken 50k, so if we got more I'd be pretty happy with that! A change of scenery might be a good thing for his career, but I'm not and probably never will be a great fan of his.

As for spunking the cup money and whether that's what Cambridge are doing or not, I think it's a case of semantics and perhaps "creative accounting" on behalf of Dave Doggett. With the Man U money going on things like toilets etc it wouldn't surprise me if money earmarked for that sort of thing a long time ago is being redirected into an increased playing budget. So technically, it's not being "spunked" and statements like none of the Man U money is being spent on players are correct, but in reality its allowing Cambridge to be much more flexible in their approach than perhaps previously they would have been, which in my mind is actually a pretty sensible approach than just putting it all on players. That's my outside reading of it anyway.

I quite like Cambridge so good luck, think they'll be up there this season, even if they do sign Jake!

I would prefer Ferguson on loan over 50k Howells. Once everyone is fit I think Howells would struggle to play with Newton and Donaldson being my first choice starters on the wing.

Are teams really still fucking around with Jeff Hughes as a winger?! The bloke's always been a central midfielder yet we appear to be the only team ever to work that out...and that was before he had his leg snapped in half.

Not sure he'll get game time tbh, especially as a winger, might not even start as a centre mid

I REALLY hope we don't pay a large fee for Howells - in fact I'd much rather we just didn't sign him. We really don't need him

Didn't Jake play Central Mid under Dickie Dosh a fair bit?

Not that I am saying he is better, or best there by the way, just trying to remember who tried him out there. If it was Money perhaps he has that in mind? I actually like Jake and while he isn't the greatest or the brightest, he is honest hard working, came through the ranks, has cost us little and done a decent team job playing wherever whenever asked. Always putting the team before himself and it's probably hurt him in the long run. There isn't always room for just the superstars and flair or speed merchants at the lower levels.

He is still young and has a ton of experience. He could step up again. He was good enough to get International recognition and looked a bright prospect. The huge turnover of managers we went through when we were nosediving and the total negativity around the place early in his career might have hurt him more than most, as he was often out of favour as new people came and went and perhaps got in a downward spiral. John Still clearly doesn't fancy him for our plans, but I really wish him well. Great servant and I do think he can do a job elsewhere. ~100k? tyvm. Hope he gets a chunk too.
