Pleased with these FGR comments, still young, still learning, another ball carrier, don’t see him as a starter but raising the quality of the overall squad is something we’ve lacked for years - these Lavery/Robinson/Delfonso comparisons are spot on.

O'Donnell confirmed signing for Rochdale.

Don't forget Tom Elliot

Christ. I'd forgotten about him! About 6'4 and never tried to head the ball. Glorious signing.

Glad that O’Donnell has got himself a league team, could’ve seen him dropping out. Everyone will wish him well, seems a top bloke, generally sound but lacks those match winning saves, can’t kick for toffee either but will get a good reception on his return.

Sounds like we have signed James Norwood from Ipswich

Lemonheigh-Evans from Torquay is also a done deal.

Norwood would be a great signing for this level.

He comes from just down the road from here and although I knew we never would get him I was still sorta hopeful.

Norwood is also ex-FGR. Useful (or was anyway), but has a reputation. Didn't a former Ipswich manager order him to stay away from the club at one stage, before he was let back into the fold?

Young equalised for us at Valley Parade earlier this season if you remember. It looked like a wonder goal from the away end but on closer inspection of the highlights I think he got two lucky bounces.

Anyhow, he does have potential but needs to get his head up when on the ball and work harder off it.

Does that mean we can refer to him as highly rated?

Think pretty much every new signing under 23 at any club gets described as 'highly rated' don't they.

Our season finished a matter of days ago and yet if you believed all the rumours we'd have signed about 20 new players in already.

We'll bring some good competitive players in, we're not here to make the numbers up. But early forecasts are looking like a top 7-10 budget. Norwood's 32 in September I wouldn't be over the moon with that one. A young big quick striker alongside Madden is what we need, a step up from Quigley who I'm a fan of but probably will be downgraded from a starter at this level.

I've heard Callum Camps for us from my end but I'm not the transfer rumour king by any stretch and I don't really know who he is other than he lives round here and has just left Fleetwood.

Who on earth with anything of a football brain blasts a chunk of their budget on these 3 plus Tom Elliott to pack out their bench??? baffling is understatement
Regards Young know nothing about him but hung around a L2 title winning squad for the season despite being just a kid a long way from home, hopefully with that experience and now working on his door step he can kick on and be an ideal back up option should we need one.

What an absolute waste of money on those four. Jake Young seems like a stronger option than all four combined.

Midfielder who came through our youth ranks (same year as Andy Cannon - Stockport on loan last season), played very well (in L1) then went on a free to Fleetwood after our former CEO and his cronies used the Covid epidemic as an excuse to withdraw contract offers to all our out of contract players in what, with hindsight, looks like a deliberate attempt at sabotage as part of their (so far failed) plot to sell the club to new owners who have turned out to be "businessmen" with no declared income for several years. Messrs Curran (who paid for his son to play for Swindon) and Southall (formerly involved with Charlton) are two. Copious threads on the Dale forum, for those with a couple of hours to spend, about the fight for the club's soul (and other assets).

Would like Callum back at Dale, but County can probably pay him better than us. Tbh, would have thought he could get a L1 club - Morecambe, Accy or even Bolton.

I'm biased in his favour, maybe, but I think he's better than Sarcevic (who is no mug).

Thanks for the info on Camps and what’s been going on at Rochdale - you get out of the EFL loop once you drop down into non-league.

What type of midfielder is he? Box to box?

Colin Calderwood is supposedly off to Swansea. In context of our league-best defensive record, that will be a loss for us, but would be interesting to see if it allows us to evolve the style of play a bit, he was always a fan of percentage football.

Interested in Matt Butcher - Accrington Stanley. They’ve offered him improved terms, but he wants to move back down South. Pompey and Bristol Rovers both reportedly interested.

C’mon Hughesy, work your magic son.

Did this one actually come through your academy? Cannon was ours until our adminstrators shut it down to cut costs. You vultured in there because we had some good young ones coming through. Fair play, was wise on your behalf. Someone would have taken them and glad they did as it could have fucked their careers up. It was fitting that Cannon managed to come and play some minutes for us this season and see us over the line and become a champion at his boyhood team. I think he's got Championship/High League one offers so there's 0 chance of a permanant return.

Speaking of youth players, we've just sold Scott Holding to Watford an undisclosed fee, a year after selling a lad called Jack Hinchy to Brighton. We've got a really bright young thing in Cody Johnson who we have luckily now tied down to a deal. So our academy is back in full swing and another positive aspect to the direction we're going in at the moment.

Said "Youth Ranks" not academy - wasn't aware of how long Andy had been with Dale. First came to my notice as a Youth Team player (ie about 17/18 yrs old).

If he's a County fan then it's nice for him to get the chance to play for you last season - possibly might not have got the same chance if he'd disappeared into City or United's youth system instead of going to Dale (or equivalent lower league team somewhere else nearby - Bury had a good youth programme).

It’s good to see county back where they belong I hope Wrexham or one of the other
proper clubs make it back also.
No disrespect Solihull.

On DC one thing that is for sure(from his time with us) he will NOT sign a player he cannot control, that’s why I believe Rooney was shipped out as expected.

We were supposed to be signing Camps in January but then Fleetwood sold Jay Matete and so the deal was off.
Worked out well as we signed Elliot Anderson instead and the rest is history.
No idea if Barton will be back in for Camps now though

I was only being mischievious on the Cannon thing. Genuinley glad someone picked these younger lads up. And you're right about probably getting a better grounding at Rochdale than United or City, you obviously did plenty right.

Cannon was with us from a very young age, that academy getting shut down must have been distressing for those lads, I think Cannon was 15 at the time when it shut. He only came back to play for us for the last month or so out of pretty much sentimentality as a supporter. He'd had an injury hit season at Hull, got fit and the EFL window was shut. He said he would have only come here and wanted to help get us over the line and kill two birds with one stone to get some minutes in. The rumour is Preston for Cannon but he'll easily find a League One club at least. Ironically, maybe he didn't have time to settle but the midfield only really settled down when Sarcevic and Collar got back from their suspensions, I don't think Cannon was actually that infleuntial at all. He was tidy though, you could see his ability.

Rooney just didn't fit our style of play and system. DC is no mug and sussed it pretty quick, he found himself on the bench very early on. I think we would have kept him on for the season but when Barrow offered us more or less our money back, it was a no brainer.
