Be interesting to see where we stick that money instead now then.

We don't need a striker. I reckon we offered Mackail Smith about 220k a year which is about 4,800 a week. I'm glad we didn't as that would get two quality centre backs at this level. And we already have enough up front with stead, Spencer, Campbell, Murray, Jenner, de silva and snijders all capable of playing up top. Would love to see Nathan Clarke sign. Him and amevor would be a great partnership at this level. With hoyte and Adams either side there won't be a much better back four in league two.

We had Danny Gabbidon on trial today :doh:Hendon said afterwards, that we may be signing him.

Not impressed, not with his awful injury record.

I believe Tom Craddock has joined Guisely.

Rumours Luton have offered him 8k a week.

I'm probably falling into the "fan blinded by bias" trap which we all do from time to time but this doesn't ring true to me.

I think if he does sign here, which looks likely after today, it will be about convenience and closeness to home, being with our fitness coach who apparently he has a good relationship with and reuniting with Still and some of the old Dagenham players he has been with previously rather than money, which im led to believe he could of got more of elsewhere as the Notts County fans have attested too already.

No doubt he'll be our top earner and on a fair chunk but 8k a week sounds far too high for us. I gather this rumour has eminated from an "ITK" Southend fan saying they offered 4k a week and we offered double that, however from what Phil Brown said in the press there offer was seemed to be just a trial than an actual contract and by all accounts it sounds like CMS had no interest at all in going there.

So I'm disinclined to believe this 8k wage thing for those reasons.

Anyone paying £8k a week to a player in Division 4 ought to be hearing sirens approaching from the distance.

I can't believe that to be honest.

Anyone who thinks we are paying £8k a week is completely delusional, sorry. Our highest earner last season was on about £1.5k per week. Obviously it's higher now and CMS will be on higher still, but it won't be anywhere near £8k.

I think you're delusional if you think your top earner last season was on £1500.

Not at all. That figure (as a basic wage, not including bonuses etc) has been confirmed by three separate extremely reliable sources. But of course you know more with your CMS on £8k per week nonsense.

CMS was a rumour, just putting it on there what I had heard, no idea if it is true. What do you think you'll be paying him?

No idea. But it won't be £8k, unless you think Notts County are able to offer nearly £10k per week.

John Akinde to Wolves for a rumoured 1.5 million, doing the rounds. There were definitely scouts from wolves at our friendly on Saturday. Didn't help he got hat trick.

That seems like a major risk by Wolves for somebody who has failed at League football in the past I think if he was cheap round the 100k mark maybe then.

That'd be nearly as much as the fees for Jamie Vardy and Andre Gray combined. I can definitely see a Championship club taking a punt on him given the recent trend of Conference top scorers stepping up, but not at that price!

That can't be right. He's never done anything in the football league has he?
No, but he will.
In pre season friendlies last season he was poor and for the first couple of games he wasn't great, but now he is playing regularly and has the self belief to place the ball past a keeper rather than blast it in the general direction he is a very different proposition.
His biggest weakness seems to be recovery time, if he plays 90 minutes on saturday then he tends to have a poor game on a Tuesday.

It's difficult to know what we'd sell for because Allen came out and said we rejected a bid of 250,000 from Barnsley for Yiadom, add to that an equivalent bid from Swansea for our youth player Matt Stevens, I don't know what it would take to get Akinde.

Barnet would be pretty nuts to sell him for a small amount because he'd be hard to replace but surely no team will bid in excess of £1m for him?

I was one of the few who really rated him here. Never looked prolific but caused loads of problems for defences. Pleased to see him finally find his scoring boots. Hope he does well.

You're exactly right C&B, my school of thinking.

If we had a bid in from Barnsley for Yiadom of 250k that was rejected, it makes me inclined that Big John is valued at way more than that.

I seriously doubt he'll be sold for anything less than £1m, which sounds crazy - but he is that important. Any club that pays £1m is taking a massive massive gamble.

So whilst £1m might sound wayy too much - and it probably is, it would cost the club more than that if we were either to get relegated - or if we were to get promoted and if we didn't have him, the former becomes much more likely.

John Akinde?...One? Million? Pounds?

The world's running out of marbles.

He's worth atleast that to us, so no chance we should sell for anything less.

Whether or not it would be worth the buying club to pay that, well...

We live in a world where mediocre French clubs are asking Premier League sides for £10-£15 million to sign 10-15 goal a season strikers in France so it's probably the market rate for Akinde £1 million is.

Akinde's not a Championship player in a million years.
