that would be us!
Wow, weird one that. Sounds like you've chucked a load of money at him. Didn't realise you were Going For It™ this season! He should be a quality signing. Honestly feels like a kick in the teeth that he's gone to a fellow League 2 club. Wish him all the best still.

Agreed. I'm feeling a little disheartened now. Watt to Lincoln next?
Wouldn't surprise me at this rate. I'm losing a bit of my optimism I had a few weeks ago, with some very underwhelming incomings but let's see how we replace Vernam and Paudie especially.

Provided he keeps fit then he’s a good signing. Think his playoff performances have raised expectations of him massively though, up until April he was mostly just ok. Shame that he’s made a sideways move tbh.

Disagree on him being ok, he’s always been class but dipped when asked to fill in for McAtee. He’s a superb player imo but im very surprised to see that he’s gone to another league 2 side

Yeah we'll see. If Odusina and Smallwood come in then I'll be a fair bit happier.

well a lot of rumours at our end that we have a reduce budget, - not that it's necessarily true. But I personally doubt we have the money to offer 'significantly better terms' (as hurst put it), to a player in what could be considered an unglamourous position. It's probably just the case that we offered a bit more, closer to home and hurst doesn't want anyone on his back that the club didn't offer a bit more to keep him.

Yeh it'll be a start but the attack still needs serious work.

I’m not sure how much you know about us as a club now but we’re most certainly not penny pinchers and would’ve offered a lot to keep him here

Agreed again. I think if Angol gets injured, which is very likely, then we'll struggle. Hoping we're bringing someone in today though. Would be strange to announce the departure of our best player on the same day we're launching the new kits.

I am sad but still correct! He dropped down to the Conference because he struggled with injuries, be interesting to see if he’s consistent with his performances.

Think it’s telling that Hurst wasn’t willing to push the boat out a bit further - obviously no clue what he was on/offered. I reckon he was one of our better paid players so Northampton must be offering a pretty decent wage. If he played all season like he did in the playoffs then we might have finished a bit higher!

I didn't say you were, but I think that furthers my point that we didn't offer significantly better terms then.

To be fair most of our signings recently have seemed ‘budget’ on the face of it so I can’t see the rumours on Twitter of £5k a week being true.

Roberts was a Walsall reject, a lot of players not wanted in Scotland etc, loanees mainly in January.

But you’re suggesting we could’ve offered a ‘bit more to keep him’ and I’m telling you if it was a ‘bit’ we’d have paid it no questions asked.

Chuck in the fact he had L1 clubs interested and I’d conclude you’ve paid a pretty penny.

(I’m by no means saying he isn’t going to be worth it)

Sounds like Lincoln fans are expecting Charlie Vernam to sign for them in the next few days, maybe even today.
He now joins Luke Waterfall in the All Lincolnshire team (played for Scunny, Grimsby and Lincoln), building an excellent L2 squad here.

Waterfall has even gone one step further playing for Gainsborough too, just Boston to go for him.

all teams have budgets to work towards. it can't be the case of offering him more money, because that would upset the balance of what you could offer elsewhere in the squad. Grimsby offered him amount that worked best for a variety of reasons and aren't going to budge from that. I think you are overestimating the amount of money we have to save face. We have a lot of issues going on which are literally clear for all to see, especially with the way the tv camera's face.

We're not going to be blowing big money on players like some clubs… Very, very sustainable.

Yes, I’m sure Scott Quigley left Barrow for a couple of buttons and a copy of Razzle.

Where have you read that? Be a good move for him if true, which I think it quite possibly could be. Think he still lives in that area?

Well, out of the kindness of our hearts we begrudgingly took Theo Archibald from Lincoln to help facilitate this deal, so it’s only fair that we help complete the merry-go-round. Might we interest you in flying young prospect Darren Pratley?

Literally 6 hours ago there were fans moaning on our forum about how our budget in the bottom 6 (and Brady supposedly told someone in the pub we had the 17th highest last year) and that the owners have pulled the plug, blah, blah blah. I think what may have happened is that we have a light squad at the moment and were willing to make him one of our higher earners propotionally while Grimsby weren't. Getting £250k for Chukwumeka making Aston Villa apps under EPP and probably another £250k from McWilliams tribunal fee if he goes will have helped, but who knows - there is literally no transparency down in the lower Leagues to what budgets are.

It does remind me of when we lost Oliver to Gillingham and we said the same thing, 'Gillingham were able to offer much better terms', and Gills fans were scratching their heads saying they hadn't got a bucket to piss in. It's probably not a massive difference in wages, and with circa £2m budgets some clubs are willing to allocate a bigger proportion of their budget to players than others.

Box to box, energy for days and days and days. He'll run his arse into the ground. Worked better in a 4-4-2 than he did with anything that used 3 CMs. Tidy on the ball, breaks up play, can pick a pass. Just very solid and seldom makes mistakes.
Provided he keeps fit then he’s a good signing. Think his playoff performances have raised expectations of him massively though, up until April he was mostly just ok. Shame that he’s made a sideways move tbh.

I'm between the pair of you on early to mid season Fox. He was definitely better than ok for me, but not on par with his performances in the latter parts of the season. He's a massive loss, him and Holohan were looking mint together.

That could be correct but Stocky will need to add this to the Excel sheet. Northampton have form for throwing moderate to big amounts around at this level too, so I'm definitely saying you're Going For It™ off the back of this.

Might have come across as slightly harsh - I think he’s better than ok but he just wasn’t consistent at the start of the season, which could be down to lack of games. I think he is replaceable though! Very interesting couple of weeks coming up.

I genuinely don't think we'll find someone who can run as much as he does and I wouldn't be surprised if he goes on to be one of the better CMs in the division, so I'm a bit more skeptical about him being that easy to replace (have seen a fair few people say this). I was prepared to lose him to a L1 club or maybe Bradford or something but not Northampton. That's come as a shock.
