But would you?
Do you not understand how to use the quote buttons or something?
We could easily pay £700k for Mcatee and most likely will
No chance McAtee goes to Northampton, when he does it'll either be a bigger club than us and/or someone closer to Manchester.
Talking of McAtee by the way skip to 2:50 here for an absolute peach:

Ridiculous goal that. Maybe my favourite of last season.
McAtee is a good player, Grimbsy fans were right about him.

People scoffing at what he's worth, it's completely subjective to Grimsby and to a potential buyer. Him only having a year on his contract is relevant, Grimsby would do well to tie him down tbh.

If I was a betting man, I'd say if he personally does well for Grimsby next season, there will be interest and Grimsby may sell in the winter window depending where they are in the league etc if he hasn't signed a new deal. If they're mid table, they may think taking some money is a good idea, if they're in the hunt for promotion or in a relegation battle, his worth may be more to keep him. As I say, it's purely subjective. 1 year left would worry me if I was Grimsby though, I'd stop bigging him up as much as they do if I was them.
Can't argue with any of that except for the last half a sentence. As if posting on a forum is going to influence any potential buyers.

The 1 year is what it is too, we've offered him improved terms, hopefully he extends but I'm not getting my hopes up. We were only really offering 1 year deals last summer (as any well ran NL club would) so the fact that we got him on a 2 year deal has turned out to be somewhat of a masterstroke really. Only really the likes of you, Wrexham, County, Chesterfield and Solihull were slinging the 2/3/4 year deals around last pre-season at that level.

I was directly following his post so didn’t see the need, plus he replied so no harm done. Sorry it bothers you so much. I will chastise myself, say 10 Hail Mary’s, thrash myself to within an inch of my life and use the quote button from now on :hail:

John McAtee was a young boy who had a dream.

In primary school, his teachers would ask him what he wants to do when he grows up, he’d reply by saying I want to follow my dream. All roads lead to this dream, all games of football for the school teams were part of this journey, all kick arounds in the streets were inspired by the will to fulfill this boyhood dream.

When he got released by Shrewsbury, many would give up on the dream, but not John. He went to Scunthorpe, knuckled down, then got a move to Grimsby, a step down some may say, but a step closer to his dream in his eyes.

Now, in the summer of 2022, one club aren’t just handing out contracts, they are handing out dreams.

Could this be the moment for John McAtee? Could Stockport County make another dream come true? Time will tell.

Stockport County.
I think this section of the forum may need to adopt and get used to its Stocky filter which basically means I can be taking the piss at any given moment and be very serious the next.

Handing out dreams not contracts was entirely serious.

We released Rawson, a tad surprised he got L1. He’s either very good or a complete liability.

He can't reliably anticipate where the ball is going to land. When he does anticipate where it's going to land he can't guide a header so it goes anywhere. His first touch is not good if he is playing with his feet. If he does control it with his first touch he can't pass it so gives turnovers away in dangerous positions.

His best quality is that he is aggressive. But not enough to warrant the panic he causes from lack of composure/anticipation.

To Counter act that...He's/was a league 2 defender...I'm thinking you only remembering his bad games...on his day,he's a solid defender who knows where row Z is,.........BUT ....that first long ball bounce is all important

Barrow fans… Ollie Banks being heavily linked with a return here from our end…

Have you heard anything from your end on this & would it surprise you if that was the case?

How’s he been for you guys, I notice he had a very impressive goals return from midfield last year? Obviously when he was here last, Cook signed him and he always used to chip in with goals, but we used to play him in attacking midfield back then, and in all honesty was a bit part / squad player. I think he’d be an excellent signing for us if we get that over the line

Don't bring up Jonny Margetts, his signing has got to be the stupidest of all time.

We had him on trial at the start of the season, rejected him because we didn't think he was good enough. Signs for you lot, has a random hot streak and we buy him. We paid for a player we rejected two months prior.

Still time for Southwell to sign, VNN players are who we will be looking at for the foreseeable
Summed up Swann at the time didn't it.

From memory, he could have signed Waterfall and Boyce, only signed the former, and then bought the latter off us! Nothing will compare to the Margetts one, it was mental wasn't it. We'd only had him on a contract for 4-6 weeks and we got £50k for him, rising to six figures on appearances (albeit he spent his 3 year with you injured?).

Swann waxed lyrical about him because he had 5 in his first 8 games but obviously didn't realise 4 of them were in one game against Southport!

I just think I'd expect a L2 defender to be composed enough to comfortably play a 15 yard pass, cushion a header or boot/head it away without messing it up and giving straight back to the opposition if under pressure. I don't expect him to be plucking balls out the sky but I'm of the opinion that he is flawed.

I know you are saying I'm only remembering his bad games and what I'm saying sounds harsh, but I can think of not more than 5 games where I was impressed. Therefore, I'm not surprised that we selected a striker in front of him and released him.

signed a new contract with us in January after the FA Cup match against Barnsley, but didn't feature much at the end of the season when Phil Brown came in - possibly because he was on 14 bookings and we would have lost him for 3 matches if he got another booking and partly because the team just didn't have the right balance with him and John Rooney in it. was our top scorer last season. It was rumoured around the time of our retained list that he was told he could leave if he found a suitable club although nothing has been heard officially. In the 1st half of the season he was our best player, also got our goal of the season for the free-kick goal away at Barnsley.
I think Pete Wild is looking to have a younger high energy team this coming season so would be no surprise if Banks does leave and going to you would be an obvious move for all parties.

Banks was our best player for the first half of a season then got a new contract and wasn't the same, we looked much better without him towards the end of the season, he was a big culprit of slowing our play down with sideways passes. He would easily be one of the better players in the National League though. If we lost him for a fee I'm not sure how bothered I'd be to be honest.

Also Farrend Rawson has left Mansfield for Morecambe.

Dan Sweeney leaves FGR and joins Stevenage - move back to North London for him.

Stevenage signing some steady players IMO after basically being really poor for 2 and half of the last 3 seasons.
They have Steve Evans so I would expect another twenty in this window of which 15 will be released in January and another 15 brought in.
When they all play shite he will shift them out and bring another load in.
He will not coach any of them.
When it goes pear shaped, which it always does, he will blame the budget, the players and everything else but himself.

We are being linked with goalkeeper Owen Evans from Cheltenham as a replacement for Liam Roberts who it seems is off to Middlesborough.

Our best player last season, and arguably has been since we rescued him from the wreck of the SS Bury. Out of contract, offered a new deal.

With respect to Barrow, I'd have thought he could get a L1 gig, or possibly Bradford/Stockport/Sal£ord...

Yes, for the situation required last season. Discounting our player-coach Jim McNulty (who is at the veteran stage, and only played occasionally) none of the centre-backs we fielded last season had any FL experience whatsoever until Paul Downing (competent but in and out through injury) joined on loan in January. EOC was crucial in marshalling the various youngsters he played with, and probably crucial to us staying in the FL. Hopefully Morley develops in a better team, and could potentially play much higher up the Leagues, but EOC was more important last year...
