In Paul Huntington we have signed a Championship level defender.

By far the best in this league by miles.

Once again we're proving our ambition with such quality signings.

Can't say I've ever knowingly seen him play but you're sounding a bit overexcited. Better than eg Alex Pearce by miles?

While I think calling anyone who signs for a League 2 club having been without a club since May a 'Championship level defender' is a bit excessive, I'd still say anyone who was maybe a Championship level defender 12 months ago has to be a really good signing at this level... unless an injury has fucked him.

We did the same with Clayton and I have to say he’s been a cracking signing, the only problem being he took at least 3 months to get up to speed

It’s Carver you’re taking to. He thinks every League 2 club other than Carlisle is tinpot and Carlisle are too massive for everyone to compete with. So if we sign a player who played in the championship last season, in carver’s brain it’s because we are a championship club in all but status and any sane player would choose us over most Championship and League 1 clubs.

Apparently bid for Salford’s Brandon Thomas-Asante with a deal described as ‘close’…

I can’t say I watch much football these days beyond OUFC and a few other bits so don’t know much about him other than he’s quick I’m guessing!?
Quick but also really strong for a man of height.

Once fit enough to play (think it’ll be a few weeks having had no preseason), he’ll play middle of a back 3. The 2 lads either side are fairly quick for defenders. So might suit him.
You’re not describing Barclay as fairly quick are you?

I've never heard of him mate and I don't know who you support, but yes Huntington is far better than him and any other defender in this league hands down.

From the little I’ve seen so far he covers the ground fairly well. You have to be able to playing the right centre back role. He’s not as fast as our left centre back Mellish admittedly, but as centre backs to I wouldn’t describe him as slow. I take it from your response you disagree?

This is based on only one home game by the way, against Nadesan and Telford who themselves are pretty quick forwards at this level. Perhaps he’d been on the red bull.

So you’ve never heard of him, so presumably have never seen him play, but somehow you know Huntington is better than him?

Make it make sense.

Whilst I think Huntington could be a good signing in terms of his experience, going into the real world away from Carver acting like we’ve signed Sergio Ramos…
I have one small concern. The fact he only made one appearance last season at Preston (from the bench as well) sets off alarm bells.

Might take him a while to get up to speed even for this level.

I've just got a good feeling about these things.

Is this the same Huntington that’s played 31 league games since 2019?

1 (one) last season.

I mean, 1 appearance in a season is usually prevalent with a bad injury; but 31 league appearances in nearly 4 years surely confirms that he’s made from paper-mâché.

Still, I bet he’s shithot in the game he’ll feature.

Yeah I’m not wanking myself silly over this signing like Carver is. There are concerns as I’ve mentioned above and as Firthy_BCAFC rightly points out 30 games in 2 and a half years is crap.
But we've been crying out for experience at the back, and with the injuries we’ve got, at this stage of the transfer window we simply have to take a punt on someone no one else wants, or go for an untested kid on loan. I think I’m glad we’ve taken a punt on someone like this. We’ll see how it goes.

That's very typical of you isn't it.

We sign a really good experienced defender from the Championship and you instantly criticise the amount of games he's played in the last couple of seasons, just because a jealous Bradford fan pointed it out and you believed him. Lol

So that's one promotion place sewn up. Hopefully we can make it a Cumbrian double.

Carver is the only person in cumbria or in fact the world who thinks Carlisle will be promoted.

In his head promotion was sewn up weeks ago.

I actually brought up the number of games before Firthy did, if you’d bothered to read.

Other than his therapist, Doctor and himself who talks to Carver?

Na Carver wasn’t inside for that.

More stuff like setting fireworks off in a car, test driving a motorbike but forgetting to take it back. Etc etc.

Huntington isn't injury prone at all. We just had younger players ahead of him last season, he was playing regularly in the reserves.

Supposedly he had issues outside of football too and was given time off to focus on them.

I wouldn’t say he was a snail or anything but certainly not above average but maybe he moves faster than I think it’s just his gangly running style that makes me think he’s slow.
