It’s a load of made up rubbish, think Doncaster even tweeted about it.

Longstaff salary is actually 20k+ according to the Athletic, although I don’t think Colchester are paying much if any of it at all like at Mansfield last season.

He's back at Newcastle now anyway - it was a waste of time bringing him in.

I'd definitely have him, we're a better side when he plays and he works his arse off. Unfortunately, it sounds like it's Paul Hurst's call that has ended it. Here's what Hurst said...

“He’s done well for us over the period of time when he was here on loan, scoring a few goals and playing in a few different positions.

“However, I think we need to freshen the squad up and with limited loans available to us, that’s the decision that we have made. We genuinely wish Brendan well for his future career and thank him for the time he has spent with us.”

Grimsby in danger of being sucked in then? Wouldn't say anyone up to 16th is out of the woods just yet.

Brendan Kiernan returns to Walsall.

So of our attacking players we've had in the first half of the season...

Kiernan - gone back to Walsall
McAtee - ineligble for Luton match
Simmonds - gone back to Birmingham
Richardson - injured, rumoured to be going back to Burnley
Wearne - cup tied for Luton match as we let Torquay use him
Taylor - injured for a few more months
Khan - injured for six weeks
Pepple - gone back to Luton
JMD - gone to Yeovil
O'Neill - cup tied for Luton match

Only Orsi and Scannell available for Saturday in terms of attacking players.

Not for me. Hurst is a shrewd operator, they have enough in the dressing room and they'll bring in some players before the window shuts. Hurst strikes me as somebody who treats the clubs money like his own and I respect that from a manager. He's done a great job at Grimsby on two separate occasions.

What happened?

Clough forced him in the squad which disrupted our midfield too much but he was a handful and looked dangerous in the box. Not physical or fast enough though.

Vernam is done by all accounts, it's you lot holding that one up!

Yep this. Not overly concerned for a variety of reasons but mainly firstly that we're letting Kiernan go so Hurst must have an upgrade in the pipeline which indicates to me he has a plan of some kind for the end of the window and secondly because other than the spanking we got at Swindon and maybe Donny at home, I've not seen anything in this division that has been significantly better than us. I've seen two Grimsby sides relegated out of the EFL and this side is absolutely not the third. Attacking options might be limited for the Luton match but I think we'll come out of the window stronger than we went into it.

I would say both Grimsby and Crewe will be ok. They have games in hand on everyone below them except Crawley. They both have three games in hand of Colchester and Rochdale.

Rumored to have bid for Hartlepool striker josh Umerah, not sure how true this is.

Ironically last week vs Hartlepool we were singing "whose your best player we'll sign him next week"

Honestly, It wouldn't surprise me because we bought a recruitment analyst in about November- No evidence of what he actually is doing. Hurst seems to be stagnating 2 wins in 11 in the league (Tranmere & Stockport at home), Drubbings against Salford and Swindon where we were absolutely abysmal. All loanees who were signed in the summer bar Andy Smith have gone back (Pepple, Simmonds, Kiernan) and JMD who was released. Most players are out of form McAtee especially, Who seems to have his head in Luton already. In reality it looks like we need 4-5 more on top of O'Neill. However, in the next month and a bit we have to play Crewe, Newport, Harrogate, and Colchester at home and Crewe, Crawley, and Gills away, 12points from those 7 games and we should be fine.

I don’t think there’s anything in the Umerah ‘rumour’ at all.

I hope not, our only real threat this season, If we lost him there would be hell on, you’d assume no one in our position would be stupid enough to sell, but Raj can’t turn a pound note down

Someone pissing around on twitter said we put a bid in for him the day we played you from what I saw, not even worth thinking about

Whacked another 50k on his price tag with another goal tonight :woot:

I also think it’s bollocks but hopefully Raj hasn’t heard, he’ll be salivating.

Yeah Hurst is massively underrated by a lot of our fan base who seem quick to forget that without him we would still be in the National League, the reason we came through that insane play off trio of games was in no small part to the never give up attitude that Hurst instilled into them and he gets players on the pitch who are prepared to run through brick
walls for him.
Brilliant man manager and deserves none of the shit that he regularly gets from our ungrateful fan base.

He missed a lot of his spell through various injuries, but I thought he was mostly anonymous when he did play to be honest. Got a season-ending injury in his last outing on Boxing Day and went back to Newcastle, but his loan was up in January anyway and I doubt we'd have looked to keep him here regardless.

Apparently we had a bid accepted from Mansfield for Danny Johnson & we offered him 50% more than what he's on at the Stags.
Unfortunately he doesn't want to come with us being 3rd bottom.
So it looks like Raj is at last loosening the purse strings.
A bit late if you ask me though.
Yeah, right

Clayton is a great professional but his legs have gone, he slowed our play down when he played. It’s been apparent since Schofield came in that he wasn’t in our plans, in respect wether it’s a good or bad thing for us depends on us getting a replacement, we needed one centre mid before he left, now it’s two, a striker and ideally a right winger, can’t see us getting all of them

Clayton named man of the match on his debut last night for us

Thought he did well, looked a bit slow and when he went in for a few challenges I thought he was going to be late and injure someone but he controlled himself well unlike Smallwood for his yellow when he kicked someone into the stands.

I think he’ll be very good for that type of game, I think his bigger challenges will come when teams sit in and break on the counter it’ll test if he gets caught out or not.

Mirror football reporting we are taking stoke city defender Matt Baker on loan!! dont really see the point as we already have 4 centre backs.

I'd stay clear if I were you, he was in his 30s when he was presenting Blue Peter, so his legs must surely have gone by now.

After a meeting with our owners our supporters trust have said the club are looking to sell Nadersan to a team up north. Doest say who but he has family in Blackpool and was previously with Fleetwood.

They also say we have offered severance terms to Francomb, Craig and Hessanthaler!

Just a few days left of the window and we have one keeper and are now woefully short on league quality players. I reckon Wagmi have gone busy.
