Notts county thinking they're the dogs bollocks.
As if they would get Mcgoldrick and as if Langstaff is worth a couple of million.:lol::lol:

McGoldrick has signed by all accounts, I think we’re putting a fancy announcement together.

But signing experienced players is surely what every club does - well, nearly all - and can hardly be termed ‘money ball’ . Whatever attributes Rose has has been exposed during his career - it’s not rocket science needed by a manager deciding to sign him.
That's what we're saying though, the data driven stuff runs alongside the traditional methods to hopefully compliment what we're already doing. The data model that we're adopting isn't just about recruitment either, it's something that's being applied to all aspects of the club from transfers to investment to day to day stuff, etc.

I don’t get the hoo-ha re McGoldrick. He’s 2 years older than Charlie Austin, has a 1 in 4 rate compared to Austin’s 1 in 2. Sure, he’ll score goals in L2 but so will plenty of other players.

Ridehalgh for another year. Desperate lack of ambition for me. Nowhere near good enough, not even as back up. Wouldn't be a starter for Park Avenue.

We probably got 2-3 decent players via that recruitment method last season - the problem was the other 5-6 were shite.

Weirdly, I'd say you were the best team we played over two matches last season but it clearly wasn't the way for most of the season. Think we were slightly unlucky at your place to go down to 10 men early on in the RETURN OF THE KING match but even so you still went and spanked us and you were very good at Blundell Park too.

I think it’s more his ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play, I wouldn’t have said no to him rocking up at the moat, definitely would have got us out of this shithole league

How was it that Alfie May ended up at the likes of Cheltenham after being at Doncaster??

I can see it being Ryan Loft if there's anything to the rumour. He's got the kind of diamond in the rough profile we'd take a chance on and wouldn't be expensive.
He looked decent at one point last season in L1 then got an injury and never really replicated it again. Cannot trap a bag of cement either which means his 2nd touch is usually a foul

Obviously this model is brand new for us, but Hurst's MO in the transfer market has always encompassed a bit of that. Some of our biggest players in recent times have been undervalued players that he's taken a risk on. Jon Nolan, Podge Amond, John McAtee, all massive players for us that contributed to promotions from the National League and all arriving with big question marks over them.

Agree on Rose too, it's entirely possible and quite plausible that he was on Hurst's list anyway. Probably put his name into the big data computer and it gave him a solid score to put his mind at ease though.
I don’t know about Amond but in the case of the other two you mention weren’t they just talented players but not the most professional or easiest to manage rather then undervalued?

Nonsense to say wouldn't be a starter for BPA.

He is certainly worth keeping for another season. Steady away, never let's us down, it wouldn't bothers me if he was still first choice or back up to be honest

He’s no world beater, but who is at this level?

Ridehalgh has proven himself to be reliable, and his experience is probably one of the key reasons why he’s been offered new terms.

I don’t think it’s a bad move by the club.

Depends how you look at it really, you can argue a case that those are facets of being underrated. Scunny fans were adamant that McAtee was lazy and wasn't particularly good, yet the reality of that couldn't have been further from the truth. I think there was definitely an air of under appreciation there. Same with Nolan and the Lincoln (or could have been Wrexham?) fans. Amond was released by Morecambe prior to signing for us too. Hurst's got a decent track record of unearthing rough diamonds.

We had Nolan straight from Everton and it was always clear he had talent but he was just a twat who didn’t want to follow the manager’s instructions.

I’ve seen Hurst say things about McAtee that suggests he’s not the easiest to manage.

Big credit to Hurst for getting the best out of these players though.

Paying money for Danny Rose, crikey. That computer needs turning off and on again.

Rumours of Toby Mallarky from Rochdale and Donavan Wilson from Sutton too
When I first saw Wilson I thought he’d do really well in front of goal. Seemed a natural. Sadly it didn’t end that way, not sure whether confidence or what. He looks ok, but he hasn’t produced what I thought he might. Hard working and won’t let you down. I hope he does better. If his next L2 move (assuming he gets one) doesn’t lead to a bit more in terms of productivity in front of goal he’ll have to drop a league.

Bit surprised at how happy Grimsby fans seem to be over Danny Rose. I’ve always thought he was shit.

The Stevenage fans on Twitter (yes, they have some) are pretty much to a man all gutted Rose has left reading the replies to it so hopefully that’s a good indicator.

Stockport County.
Hurst has set it to Play Offs on the new fancy Computer player finder system.

Still filtered to National League by the looks of things.

EDIT- SOC will definitely bookmark this for our inevitable and traditional Blundell Park defeat.

Did he play for Halifax previously? If its the same one he's looked a pretty decent defender when I've seen him

Yeah McAtee isn't without his problems by all accounts, but it's not an attitude thing really. The only time we've seen any evidence of that is when he was visibly annoyed at being subbed off. I guess my point is that by not looking past these issues, clubs have essentially undervalued these players despite acknowledging they have talent. I don't think these two actions are necessarily always mutually exclusive.

We've spent the last three or four windows either not bringing in a striker or bringing in a Championship loanee right at the end of the window. To bring in a player who played 50+ times last season in a side that got promoted in the second week of June is a step in the right direction. Don't think anyone is going OTT about Rose either, he's a solid signing who will cause other teams problems.
