Likewise with your lot.

If we were to make May the first major signing of the Galinson ere then we'd be laying down a marker of our intentions. That said, he's a 29 year old who's never played above League One so I'm not going to wank myself silly over the signing, I think it's a bit of a risk to be honest.

He'll be 30 by the time the season starts and he's never scored more than 10 a season in League 2.

The £500k will be great though.

Mansfield fans know that considering they doubled Lapslie wage, and it’s not like we don’t pay well ourselves.

plus whatever they offered Hawkins too, who was happy here but the offer was to good to refuse and we got good money for two players that be out of contract now and Gillingham signed two good L2 players so worked out I suppose.

You’d be laying down a bigger marker than Wrexham considering you don’t have the Disney or famous owners to lure players in alongside the ridiculous wages.

He’d be a great signing imo, alongside Hawkins, that’s a very attractive strikeforce for league 2. I’d be very excited if I was in your shoes rather than nervous about this signing.

I'd imagine Hawkins is more likely to be a plan B for us this season. We ended the season playing a 4-4-1-1 system which was getting better things out of Lapslie and Nichols, Hawkins limits us.

End of the day I have no idea what the wages will be for him, he won't be on huge amounts at Cheltenham so yes, I'd imagine we'd increase that comfortably. But as the Chelts fan said above, he's 30 before the next season kicks off so there's very limited resale value - literally the only payback we'll get from him is a promotion which puts the pressure on him to perform. That's why I'm on the fence about it, I don't think it's necessarily a worthwhile signing (for the cost) for us.

He's only leaving us for the payday - he'll be on £2,000 a week here at the absolute maximum (and I very much doubt his wage is that high).

I actually agree with you Joe - I think he may well struggle wherever he ends up. Sometimes players and clubs just fit - he has no pressure at all at Cheltenham. If he has a bad game, he's still absolutely loved. If he doesn't hit the ground running wherever he ends up (and he only had 6 goals before Christmas this past season and 9 goals before Christmas the season before) then I think fans might get on his back - and everyone knows playing up front is all about confidence.

Always wary of those kind of accounts but there have been persistent rumours at our end about him for ages now.
I think there will be Championship clubs after him and for more than 500k. Not saying you won’t get him mind.

That's exactly my point really. We had Tom Eaves scoring 40 odd in two seasons for us in League One but has done relatively little elsewhere, then followed that up with Vadaine Oliver scoring around 35 in his two League One seasons before going on to warm the bench a level lower. Signing players just isn't an exact science, especially in the lower leagues. May reminds me very much of Cody McDonald who was adored down here for his all round game, plus being the best finisher we've had probably since our Championship years. Never did much in his spells at other EFL clubs though.

I like to think we're quite a forgiving bunch down here in Kent, but questions will certainly be getting asked if he doesn't start reasonably well for obvious reasons.

That's assuming the deal happens, which at the moment is still a massive rumour.

He’s from Kent (born down the road in Gravesend) and his extended family are still local including his parents.

Oh and he goes to bed in Andy Hess pj’s and had a poster of Tony Pulis on his bedroom wall as a kid.

Dreams my friend, DREAMS.

Edit: just getting in there early so I don’t have to bother later and he’s probably not signing for us anyway, just lazy journalism.

The ITK on our forum reckons we’re in for a League 1 LWB and CM.

And so it begins.

Latest real rumour is Warren Feeney from Carlisle who is out of contract.

Rose is a decent enough player at this level, he’d be a decent back up for most in the league,

It depends how it’s viewed though and how wise you are, whereas gillingham doubled lapslie and hawkins wage, we went and got better for less and had £150k in the bank - happy days.

Got to say, I don’t give a shit if various clubs splash the cash. They ain’t all going to get it right and it’s great fun watching the meltdowns when it goes tits up.

Bring it on!

Would you like to provide a source for doubling their wages? I don’t think we’re paying peanuts but given Hawks openly wanted to move south I very much doubt there was any need. Also I’m not surprised you found a better defender than Hawkins given he’s a striker. We didn’t even know Lapslie was available too, but I think your comment about finding better than him is disingenuous, but we’ll see.

Nowhere is it stated as £150k either, just rising to a six figure fee. If you’re citing Clough he’s unlikely to say you let them go for pennies and just a longer contract is he.

Now let it go, it’s boring.

They've repeated themselves so regularly that at this point they treat it as fact.

If another stags fan on here wants to explain where it’s come from and why they definitely know go for it but I cannot be arsed.

Which Danny Rose is it though, there's about 15 of them.

And there's 12 Danny ROWES knocking around the lower leagues.
I’m hoping it’s this one…

Is there some weird mansfield/gillingham thing going on or something that i’ve missed? don’t really bother at this time of year, it’s nice to get a break.

I really like Lapslie, very unique player for this level but I genuinely think DKD is a better player, I mean he scoes more and assists more. I think it was very shrewd business by us.

We refused to sell Danny Rose to Peterborough for a big fee purely because Steve Evans was the manager, we refused to sell Danny Johnson because it was to a (at the time) promotion rival. John Radford will not let two good players like Hawkins and Lapslie go cheap even with little left in their contracts.

We didn’t see the best from Lapslie until we were pretty much safe, but from what I did see I was very impressed. We had to battle for points so for a while he was used as a left winger because we were desperately short there (we still are), but when playing immediately behind two front men he was very impressive.

I look forward to seeing DKD up against us next season and I’ve very little doubt that you’ll be up there with a few teams in a mini league next season.
