Hurst has set it to Play Offs on the new fancy Computer player finder system.

Still filtered to National League by the looks of things.

EDIT- SOC will definitely bookmark this for our inevitable and traditional Blundell Park defeat.
You've just locked in a Danny Rose brace for sure.

We've spent the last three or four windows either not bringing in a striker or bringing in a Championship loanee right at the end of the window. To bring in a player who played 50+ times last season in a side that got promoted in the second week of June is a step in the right direction. Don't think anyone is going OTT about Rose either, he's a solid signing who will cause other teams problems.

You’ve still not brought in a striker to be fair

Grimsby inflating transfer fees this summer by signing Danny Rose is not what I expected.

I don’t get the hoo-ha re McGoldrick. He’s 2 years older than Charlie Austin, has a 1 in 4 rate compared to Austin’s 1 in 2. Sure, he’ll score goals in L2 but so will plenty of other players.

Have you seen him play recently? Looked genuinely a cut above when we played Derby. The gulf between the 2 leagues is pretty big, especially the top end of league one. Should be far too good for this level.

Which Danny Rose is it though, there's about 15 of them.

And there's 12 Danny ROWES knocking around the lower leagues.

Really fancy Grimsby for the playoffs if not higher.
Based on Danny Rose and a decent defender signed from Rochdale?

I don’t think they are bad signings by any means. But the league looks strong at the top this year and neither say promotion push.

For some reason I thought Mullarkey was a young talent at Rochdale. Quite surprised to read he's nearly 28 and has been knocking about the non-league scene for almost all of his career.

I'm quietly confident we're in with a chance of a playoff push. Lots of continuity going into this season at Blundell Park. We've got a solid core of a squad in place already, a good manager who is on the same page as the owners and morale in fanbase has been steadily at its highest since the 90s for a few seasons now. The squad needs improving, I'm under no disillusions about that but these two first signings definitely provide that. We'll go under the radar this summer I'd imagine but that'll suit us absolutely fine.

In a league where probably 75% of the teams will have a genuine belief they can make the play-offs, it doesn’t have make me laugh when fans throw their toys out the pram at the mention of another side thinking they might be one of that 75%.

We made the top half last year with very very little time to prepare for the new season and without playing all that well. Rose & Mullarkey are good, solid signings who instantly improve us & we’ve no doubt got some cash to spend on a few more this season.

I’m not saying I expect you to struggle but I’ve got at least 10 teams I’d put before you but there are always are a couple of surprises.

I’m not sure I’m throwing the toys out of the pram. Just having an opinion.

Seems a bit underwhelming after all the starry eyes but Rafiq Khaleel has signed a 2 year contract with Crawley.

Come through our back up teams (can't call it an academy) and started to get game time last season..

Yeah, fair enough. I don't necessarily think it would be a surprise to see us do well, purely because I think we're being ran and managed very well. What I'd see as more of a surprise if it were to happen would be if every team that is chucking a load of money at it came good.

My only argument would be looking at the league table from the season that has just finished. All the teams with big budgets did finish above you apart from Gillingham who got the January takeover and then outperformed you (and a lot of the league).

Whatever happens I’m sure you’ll beat us at least once.

We need to sign a goal scorer and be better going forward, that was the only thing missing last season and what stopped us having a shot at the play-offs. Midfield and defence are already solid enough.

hopefully Rose is a step in the right direction to being better attacking.

Easy fucking Darren Moore
Was he all that good at Donny?

Not to do him a disservice at all, I now consider him our greatest ever player, but whilst he scored a few, he was hardly prolific in his first season and a half at Cheltenham. He only scored 10 in our championship winning season. In fact, it wasn't until January 2022 that he really found his scoring boots. It was almost a running joke that if he was one-on-one with the keeper he'd miss it 4 times out of 5.

We couldn't reach an agreement on a new contract with Josh Kay - so he's moving on. Could end up anywhere from L1 to the NL (possibly Chesterfield) - but if any team wants someone who can score away at Bradford City snap him up.

As Lew has alluded to though, we had about a month's less prep than the rest of the division (yourselves and Mansfield excluded from that) plus the cup run took it out of us and derailed things a bit. We were also pretty crap up top. That combo of McAtee and Taylor that served us so well in the NL barely got a minute together on the pitch until fairly late into the season and Taylor just wasn't really up to the task. So while an outsider might look at our chances and summise that we only finished 11th, the general consensus from our fanbase is that we finished 11th in spite of all that. I'll be disappointed if we don't kick on and improve next season and I'm expecting us to be a better attacking force. I'm expecting us to be better prepared up top and have better options as opposed to only having one or two systems that aren't really working. That would be my main criticism of Hurst and the squad last season, that we just didn't have enough quality and ideas in the final third. As Gladders says, the defence and the midfield are almost all done and good to go, we probably only need two more (another CB and another CM) in those areas.

So If we could sign him, he would score every home game for us then?

Just a feeling more than anything really to be honest. Hurst is one of the best managers in the league for me and I don't think they need a lot of signings. But yeah, just a hunch. Watch them finish 14th.

He never really got a run in the side, McCann left and Moore basically got rid of nearly all our contracted players
