Got to say, I don’t give a shit if various clubs splash the cash. They ain’t all going to get it right and it’s great fun watching the meltdowns when it goes tits up.

Bring it on!
Ourselves and Mansfield already have two of the bottles it meltdown spots sewn up, the rest of you can fight over the rest.

We had Nolan straight from Everton and it was always clear he had talent but he was just a twat who didn’t want to follow the manager’s instructions.

I’ve seen Hurst say things about McAtee that suggests he’s not the easiest to manage.

Big credit to Hurst for getting the best out of these players though.
Same with us, same with Wrexham and then same at Ipswich after Hurst was sacked.

He should have had a far better career than he managed.

Safe in the knowledge it won't be us splashing any cash given our ticket office was either closed or out of order during the early bird season ticket sales window and our website still shows the managerial role as 'vacant' on the club website.

With that being said, I'm reasonably confident about the season ahead. Reckon we might make some interesting moves in the transfer market. Absolutely no hints of who yet, but I reckon Flynn and the recruitment team will pleasantly surprise.

We didn’t see the best from Lapslie until we were pretty much safe, but from what I did see I was very impressed. We had to battle for points so for a while he was used as a left winger because we were desperately short there (we still are), but when playing immediately behind two front men he was very impressive.

I look forward to seeing DKD up against us next season and I’ve very little doubt that you’ll be up there with a few teams in a mini league next season.

Lapslie just like DKD is best behind the strikers, unfortunately we had to move the latter out wide due to injuries too. DKD is definitely much better on the ball but otherwise it’s pretty close and I expect Laps to have a good season if played in the correct position.

Regarding wages, the massive increase you lot offered Lapslie really did come from somebody who definitely knows, you should embrace the fact that your willing to spend loads of money on players now and not try and make out otherwise, leave that to the management. Hawkins was happy here but the move down south and a pay increase was a no brainer, and a six figure increase in his overall contract offer was way too much for Laps and his young family to turn down, fair play to them both.

Yeah, it’s all a bit tinpot behind the scenes. Yet we’re obviously spending quite a bit with those pitch renovations. At least with Clem the intentions are good even if the execution of them can be a bit meh.

Last season was a complete borefest but this season’s league looks a lot more ‘interesting’. Reckon this forum could be a bit lively!

Definite Grimsby Fenty era vibes on this post.

Well there's two rumours on our forum of Agyei and Critchlow being announced today. I'd bet neither will be.
A few people on The Fishy seem to be suggesting you're signing Billy Sharp, has there been anything about that on your end? Surprised me as it seemed going off you lot's posts on here that you're only really in the market for a young mobile striker.

I think with the addition of Wrexham and Notts County and what looks like possibly stronger versions of Donny and Gillingham (so far, way too early to tell who else might be on the mix) as well as the usual crowd who you might expect to carry on challenging (Mansfield, Bradford, Stockport) then I think you are right. I've already ruled out any of the league 1 relegated sides, perhaps the Franchise might stick their heads above the parapet, but it looks a poor group that has come down.

In a month to 6 weeks we should have a much better idea of where we are going to sit.

Yeah I think MK Dons will be decent, Alex Gilbey is a decent start to their business and I'd expect them to continue to spend. Morecambe seem on their arse a bit though. FGR and Accy are a bit more wilcardy and could go either way for me. Both traditionally tricky away matches and clubs that play the smaller club role very well.

Accy are in the Sutton/Harrogate tinpot mould though which means they will beat us comfortably.

We've been linked with Sharp every summer since about 2016ish - one year it actually made the papers.

But I'd very much doubt were signing him. Him and Cook would be almost as slow as when we played Windass and Steve Claridge together.

I have to be brutally honest but I had completely forgotten who had been relegated from Div 3 and Franchise only sprang to mine as I was about to hit 'post reply'. Gilbey is a good signing right enough.

Is that his life expectancy?

Well he is rather old, but to be fair to him he's in very good physical condition. He's far more Agile than Mark Howard, who is five years younger.

One day we will need to bring in a younger Keeper but Foster is more than good enough for one more season.

You'd think we'd be on our arse but no one expected us to get promoted and we didnt have a full squad in that summer transfer window, if Johal appears again im just gonna slam my head into the wall but hopefully the new regs are stronger than anything

You Hope.

He will be as good as the players in front of him.

Yous have had a torrid time over the years and i for one don,t begrudge you success.
Be really interesting to follow your progress.

From what i seen last season the defence needs tightening badly, sounds a bit ott i know.
But the strikers in Lge 2 really are unforgiving.

All the best anyway.

When I first saw Wilson I thought he’d do really well in front of goal. Seemed a natural. Sadly it didn’t end that way, not sure whether confidence or what. He looks ok, but he hasn’t produced what I thought he might. Hard working and won’t let you down. I hope he does better. If his next L2 move (assuming he gets one) doesn’t lead to a bit more in terms of productivity in front of goal he’ll have to drop a league.
Our Twitter's just posted a video of Kevin Donovan scoring from the 90s so this is gonna be announced imminently.

Our defence struggled with losing key players which made finding a settled three difficult- we still only conceded 43. Hayden getting injured against Sheffield United was a particular blow. That said Tozer, O'Connell, Tunicliffe and Hayden have all performed well in L2 before so I have no real concerns with a full pre season together. There were occasional lapses in concentration which they do need to stop- but a large part of that was in games where things were too easy for them, they generally performed better when things were more even.

Adjusting to not having things be so one sided will be the main issue after last season. It'll be interesting to see how we do.

Foster's been recruited for Social Media clout possibly more than anything.
