I would take him over any of our central midfield players that turned out for us last season.
I've no doubt he's better than the likes of Gilliead, East, Osadebe, Clayton. But we lacked pace, energy and physicality in midfield last season and I'm not sure he ticks any of those boxes.

He’ll do nothing for you defensively. I wouldn’t worry overly about his injury record. The 2 seasons he was with us he was fine but he does need to be managed.

Williams always comes across impressive when I’ve watched nhim, for me he’s a brilliant signing for any side.

Williams scored more than all 5 of our central midfielders last season, granted two got bad injuries but still compared to what we have he offers a goal threat which is much needed. I hope the rumours are true but I’m always a pessimist when it comes to transfer talk. We’ll see if he’s holding a claret and amber shirt in the next few days.

It wouldn't be completely unexpected for us to be speaking to Williams but I've seen no rumours on our side that we were ever interested- other than some fans (who are also Welsh fans) saying he would be a good addition.

We aren't likely to offer someone of his injury profile a three year contract. I'm not sure he'd be a massive upgrade to players we already have in his position either. Good player though.

It being The Sun it's probably completely made up.
Surely the biggest made up bit in that story is that Jonny Williams is only 2fucking9??

Looks like it is Jonny Williams, our local rag never has the guts to mention a player unless it’s happening.

Popular guy was 'Joniesta'. When on form he was superb. Always busy and is clearly a classy performer at this level. Infuriated me at times with the amount of times he spends looking for free kicks and gesturing towards referees. Very quietly spoken and genuine nice guy. I suspect Bradford fans will love him.

He ticks a lot of boxes - a creative centre mid is something we do not have, he’s experienced which is something we lacked massively last season having to bring in the likes of Adam Clayton in January and simply he’s better than what we have (replacing Gillead if we went like for like next season, a make shift/converted wide player with zero creativity in a side that scored next to nothing in midfield).

Something that I forgot to write was that he has a knack of being able to time runs into the box to perfection to score headers (I may be misrembering but think he did it a few times) which was surprising given his height.

Can’t believe he’s turned down our multi-million pound deal, Charlton GOING FOR IT instead then

He wants to play at a higher level, that's all what you L2 clubs are going to get as a reason now.

We weren’t ever in for him according to their ITK sources

Apparently we've offered a contract to Alex Gillead. Any cop Bradford fans?

Depends on who you ask really. Splits the fanbase. Great engine on him, one of the fittest players I've seen, and will give everything in every game, but won't really offer anything in attacking areas. He came to us as a winger and Hughes played him in central midfield in every game last season. A decent squad option in my opinion.

He was very impressive early on. Incredibly calm and composed - good feet. I actually found his all round game to be much stronger when partnering Matty Platt. Soon as he partnered Stubbs, he seemed to lose confidence and had the tendency to make at least one major mistake per game.

He’ll get better, but mid-table L1 is just about his level at the moment.

Cheers, I assume you mean mid-table L2?

And us apparently, although not seen anything hugely reliable yet.

We’ve got quality in midfield but no obvious box-to-box energy merchant, so sounds like it’d make some sense.

We’ve played him out of position all season. He’s done a job in central midfield but doesn’t contribute a great deal.

We’ve had him on-loan years prior and he played on the wing. Again, he rarely contributes anything of real note. However, he’s had spells at Scunthorpe and scored and assisted plenty.

I think he needs this move.

Echo my fellow Bantams on Gilliead. Good engine, real hard worker and decent enough footballer for this level. However, he is worse than useless when it comes to scoring, creating a chance or even passing forwards for that matter. His goals/assist record is diabolical.

Solid enough keeper at this level but I don't think anyone is losing any sleep over this. For me we needed to bring someone in to challenge his spot, but I think it's more likely we'll be bringing in a direct replacement and a younger option now as opposed to having two potential #1s going for the same spot.

What are you Staggies saying about Christy Pym? Are you back in for him? I'd imagine if he's going back out on loan we'll be giving you some competition this window.

Owen Bailey from Gateshead signed on a 2 year deal, a defensive midfielder (at last) also another leader on the pitch. I think we are going to be a hell of a lot tougher to beat next season

He was talking about Crichlow. Personally I would like us to keep Gilliard for the work he does.
Ah my bad, I often skim read this on my lunch break and I chose the wrong message to quote, like a total wally.

I assume Flynn likes a hard worker or 15 in his squads!

Whoever ends up with Crocombe if you have a lot of really tight games where you’re just the 1 goal up heading into injury time you will absolutely love him, runs the clock down with cramp like a true shithouse.
