After the upcoming announcement of Shilow Tracey tomorrow, looks like we've agreed a deal with Crawley for Jack Powell, their player of the season last year, to move to us and that should be announced in the next couple of days.

Also closing in on signing Kazeem Olaigbe on loan from Southampton. Was on loan at Harrogate I believe last season.

Powell will be one of our two marquee signings this Summer with an experienced centre half being the next. Charlie Raglan is a name I've heard and he's a local-ish lad so I could see us being in for him and I wouldn't mind a signing of his calibre at all. He's a leader and if he can improve Offord, O'Riordan and Williams then we'll be in for a good season.

Get those in and we'll be a couple of loan signings away (1 RB, 1 CAM) from being good to go.

Is Sbarra still there? always rated him.
Yes, he's under contract and will fetch a fee but I'd be surprised if he's there by the end of the January window. We've been rumoured to be after him for a year or so but not sure he's what we need.
Dallas has always impressed against us and I'm pretty sure he can jump to this level. Barnett who went to Wrexham is pretty decent too.

Olagibe was one of the best players I saw last season.

Dallas seems to shit himself in big games though which is one of the reasons we are in this league instead of Solihull.

Matty Platt to Stockport according to the ITK who broke a couple of our signings, can’t say I’d be fussed but I know there’s a lot who like him, a poor man’s Rory McArdle.

Stupid decision. Platt is solid if unremarkable and this Gordon fella from the blades as his replacement stinks of cost cutting.

What would the cost saving even be? Platt, another ‘nice guy’ who is uncomfortable on the ball in a (trying to be) possession based team, and part of a defence that regularly leaked soft goals especially from set pieces and didn’t contribute any attacking threat.

Heard much of the same, if we pull off most of these then it looks like a very decent bit of business this season. Really liked the look of Olaigbe at Harrogate last season, he was a real handful.

Platt and Stubbs had formed a very solid partnership in January and Crichlow only got back after Platt's sending off.

Platt never regained his place after his suspension, it appears Ash Taylor was brought in to replace Platt then if this is happening.

Stockport will be getting a solid league 2 centre half in my opinion

Our CB partnership this season should be Platt and Stubbs. They were excellent together last year and the stats speak for themselves. The alternative is Stubbs + Gordon (6 professional appearances) or Kelly (no one has any idea if he's good or not) or god forbid Ash Taylor.

His worst attribute as a forward is his finishing, he's good at more or less everything else. But he's the type of forward who will get 4 or 5 openings a game with the way he plays, and he might take 1 or 2. A little bit like Ollie Watkins at Villa, who on the face of it scores a decent amount but if you watch his games he should probably have double his tally.

Considering his G/A numbers he's still quite a young footballer as well, so I expect him to grow as a player.

As a team last season we built a squad that didn’t suit the system, Platt uncomfortable with the ball, Odusina who can only play in a three, not having a true centre mid to partner Smallwood… If we start to adjust the side to better suit the way we try to play, that for me is only a positive and we improve on an 11 that isn’t so over reliable on Cook’s goals and Lewis making wonder saves. As much as Platt seems a nice lad, he’s a ten a penny L2 centre half, the biggest fear seems to be replacing ‘average’ with ‘potential’.

You say that but literally every comment about Taylor says he can't play out from the back.

We were very close to signing him in January. Suspect we probably would’ve done this summer if we’d stayed down but think promotion has opened up the chance to sign players we think are higher quality in that position in Crowley and McGoldrick.

Can’t disagree with that comment, the Taylor signing has car crash written all over it.

Doesn’t really make sense for us this one so interested to see if it has legs.

Are we sure this is true?

I don't think we really need a centre half unless we maybe move Joe Lewis on.

The only thing I could possibly think of is that we're just flexing our muscles and showing everybody what an Alpa Male club we are by bullying Bradford for their best centre half.

Bradford getting knocked about by Gillingham has caused a ripple effect and all the beta chimps are now circling. The hierarchy of the division has been thrown into chaos.

Getting rid of Platt because we want to play it out from the back and we replace him with Ash Taylor haha. I hope this is something the Insider fella has got wrong, not just for Platt but for the young defender we're supposedly bringing in; Spent seven months at Boreham Wood and only featured three times. No thanks. If this comes off it'll just reinforce my want of the recruitment team being sacked.

Christ, I’ll be glad when the games actually start and we can plainly see who has and who has not got a chance. I’d imagine there’ll be a few disappointed posters on here!
There's always going to be people disappointed. Like Swindon last year who were out of the running by Christmas.

Not Xmas, but your point stands. We were 6th when Lindsey left but the Morris appointment was a disaster - that’s what did for us ultimately. Any improvement on Lindsey should have seen us cement a place in the POs.

Hopefully Flynn can sort it.

Just seemed to have loads of academy type players, played some "nice" football. This was all accelerated by Morris. I think Flynn will need completely different players for his style. It seems a strange appointment to be honest.

As always, there will be loads disappointed as you say. Pre-Season is the time for positivity, new signings are always better than what has gone before, ignorance is bliss etc.

I've not see much eye catching business across the league so far to be honest.

May be proven wrong but I’ve always felt like Flynn is one of those that would only do well at this level with Newport.

I don’t agree. The one glaring problem was midfield - all tiny, lightweight technical players. They offered no protection to the defence, hence why we folded in so many games in which we were leading. We’ve got a 25-30 goal striker, a RWB with the most assists of any player in his position in Europe and 3-4 young players that should improve with a season under their belts. We need a nasty twat in midfield - probably the reason we didn’t even bother offering Williams a contract. A couple of CBs and a keeper and we’re good to go

Apparently signing Tyler Smith from Hull. A striker.
