I'm a huge Kinsella fan. Really sets the temp for the entire team, can press high and win the ball back in dangerous areas and will never let an opposition midfield rest. Will fly into tackles strongly but almost never picked up cards because he was so good at it. As the previous two said, will leave absolutely everything on the pitch. My favourite example is in the FA Cup game away at Stockport, he had a nasty nock and has a bandaged head - ball goes loose in the area and he still throws his head at it, gets fouled and wins the penalty that puts us through to the 3rd round. Honestly one of my favourite ever Walsall players and I am gutted we haven't kept him on. I'd honestly have him back today but I am a bit of a football romantic.Refreshing to read almost total positivity from the Walsall fans on here, only 2 mind, but hey ho. Twitter is a bit more mixed, but that's where life's lunatics live, so I generally take most of what's said there with a huge dose of salt.
We've now got Kinsella, Mceachran and Kemp who are pretty small in stature. I'm pretty happy with our midfield, our defence does require some serious work still. I suspect we'll be very busy this coming week.
But also on the flip side, he will do nothing for you in possession. He will stand in pockets and lay it off to someone else but that's it, you're carrying him. That is what has led to him departing with us wanting now to play a little more. Ryan Stirk has replaced him and he has shown five times the desire and ability to actually play the ball. Liam is basically league one standard in winning the ball back, and conference north/south standard in possession. But Champions league in desire and commitment.
He split opinion in the last year or so with Flynnball extra highlighting our lack of build up play through midfield - and his insistent need to play both him and Comley, who both can't pass and build, next to each other as a two. It's strange, he is very much a "Flynn" player, suits his attitude and style well - but also playing under him killed his Walsall career and led to his worse season for a while. Going to be very interesting how it turns out. Really just depends on whether Flynn can change his style of play and where/how he deploys Liam. I honestly wish the best for him.
