The rumour has only come from some obscure Twitter account. I'm sure we'd be interested in a loan deal for him with a view to buy but not a chance I'd be spending daft money on someone coming off that awful leg break.

ITKs saying there is no truth in it.

Irish journo who was right about Mcclean is saying we're in for a goalkeeper from Sligo Rovers. 100k offer he says. Not really a priory position at all but we had 5 keepers at one point last season, currently have 3 and they are all well over 30 so could be something in it

Macauley Bonne evidently an apparent imminent incoming for us as the striker we've been crying out for all summer.
Obviously knows where the back of the net is at this level but suggestions of attitude problems?
Between Hess, Jackett and Harris I imagine they've done their thorough due diligence though.
I'd be absolutely gobsmacked if Bonne had any attitude problems, he always seemed a top pro.

"You need no introduction but for those supporters who haven't seen you play before, what can they expect from you?"
And then they proceed to list attributes it eventually turns out they don't possess.

Interesting chat r.e. academy players. I always felt we were missing a trick down the years for various reasons and we've changed things. We've tried the U21 and local mini-league approaches but they didn't quite have the purpose we needed.

Pre-2011, we used to effectively give up on players at 18, which I could understand from a financial perspective but I always thought from a development point of view that was a little too early. 2011-2016 in the NL years you get no funding or protection anyway so it was difficult.

Now, we trial young players who've been released from local(ish) clubs - Sheffield Wednesday, Derby, Leicester, Forest etc to supplement our local academy players and we have signed quite a few from London and Ireland as well and appear to have mini set-ups in those areas and generally keep them until 20/21 now.

We used to send all our players to local sides such as Boston, Gainsborough Trinity and Lincoln United but their first loans at 18 are generally into the League of Ireland now, and it looks like our new pathway is to send them for their second loan up to Scotland.

A few of our released youngsters actually work within the Club as well in sport science, physiotherapy, the business side etc if they still want to stay in and around a football club.

Meant to post this yesterday but the cost of an U23’s side is £400k-£600k a year, according to our CEO (which is why we don’t have one at this level).

Yea not really the same player after his injury, although he showed the odd glimpse, this was post-injury https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJgsrJcw/ looked like he might be on his way back, but then Posh sniffed around and Cookie said he stopped turning up. He'd have been better served knuckling down here, getting his scoring going again, and getting himself a move whilst playing and in form. Refusing to train and play to force the move so soon after such a nasty leg break, it wasn't the way imo. I won't go into the economy of that price tag as Wrexham are a club it's not really relevant to, I'm just not sure what you'd get out of him when he'd be what, 3rd choice when Mullin is back?
Just to clarify, the not turning up for training & downing tools are just rumours that Cook or anyone at the club has never confirmed. He was given a week off by the club after the Birmingham deal fell through to get his head straight due to the nature of what happened there (he was literally in the building, pictured done etc before deal got pulled at last second on deadline day)

In fact Danny Webb said in multiple interviews that Kabby was getting his head down in training & not causing any problems. It may or may not have happened, but it has never been confirmed that it did so I think it’s important to mention that as this is how players can gain false tags/reputations that they carry round with them for the rest of their careers sometimes.

He was a fantastic player for us and deserved his move, the leg break was so unfortunate for him as he was flying that year (24 goals by January). We benefitted from the sale of Kabby since anyway by being able to bring in the likes of Colclough, Dallas etc that gave us a strong finish to last season, and no doubt has helped us in this summer window with the quality we’ve been able to bring in, so no bad feelings at all. Hope wherever he ends up next he gets a run of games and re finds his pre injury form (if that’s possible?). A move to Wrexham would surprise me though, he’s far from guaranteed goals at the moment and if you’re spending that much money on a player in league 2, they need to be able to hit the ground running surely

I posted a while ago that the eefl (ptgf or whatever) would sound the death knell for the academies etc at this level.

The selling of a really good youngster for a maximum of £50k to a Premier league academy makes all the effort and cost prohibitive.

One or two will continue.

We did try going down the b team route but I seems to have fallen by the wayside as getting games seems to be difficult.

Yep. He was better than Mullin when he got injured and had a higher ceiling than him at that point. Shades of players like Liam Hearn and Matt Green who got injured at the absolute top of their game just as they were poised to either step up or having just stepped up. Massive shame for him. Think it got talked about at the time when he went to Posh but there just didn't seem to be a move that would work out well for any parties. As you say it's a massive risk spending that on him. The fees that people have paid for him have really hindered his recovery. If Peterborough were prepared to cut some of their losses and loan him out with a view to a permanent deal somewhere that would surely work. Nobody is gonna touch him at 500k though, not even Wrexham, Gillingham or Stockport.

Someone on our forum reckons we're announcing 2 signings today;- James Chester (wouldn't be a surprise as he played in several of our pre-season games) and Matty Longstaff.... Time will tell if there's any truth in it.

I think the quote from Cookie was 'the only person stopping Kabby playing right now is Kabby' when asked why he wasn't picking his 25 goal a season striker. There's a few ways you can interpret those words but the most likely seems that he wasn't knuckling down, had his head turned. Although that was after a loss I think and you know how Cookie can be after a loss. Whatever went off it was enough for Cookie to lose trust in him and he barely made the side after that before he was sold for what was ultimately a reduced fee. Sounds like there's not much in the rumour though if Wrexham ITKs are right. He'll always struggle to get game time at Posh or Wrexham whilst Jonsson Clarke-Harris and Paul Mullin exist.

You probably need to have at least Category 2 to get the protection to mean you get a semi-decent fee if a player gets poached. The trouble is that it costs am absolute fortune which is why Crewe and maybe Colchester (?) are the only league two teams to bother with a Cat 2 academy.

It's perhaps a bit of an idealistic way of looking at it but the teams that your club deals with can have an impact on this too if you get lucky. We sold a 16 year old CB (Ben Grist) to Leicester a few years back who was nowhere near our first team but was a hot prospect. Was all set to go for Utd for 500k but Leicester gazumped them. The fee was never confirmed but we were told it was substantial with add ons and the accounts that year reflected it (however was hard to say for sure as we got some significant Siriki Dembele add ons too). Just checked up on him and he's been a mainstay in their U18s, so hopefully we might see some more cash come in from him.

Quite why some clubs choose not to rip you off and others do just adds to the unfair nature of what EPPP brought about.

Longstaff had a bad injury last season with Colchester.

For me he’s a good #10 and very dangerous in the box but struggles with the physical side of things to be combative enough in midfield.

Bet he’s missing that 20k p/w contract he had at Newcastle!

His wages certainly weren’t League 2 though.

We managed to get him for nowt, our CEO at the time was on holiday at the same place Langstaff agent was and it just happened like that out of nowhere over a few bevvies.

Supposedly our young RB Josh Seary has a L2 loan move lined up but it's on hold while Calvin Ramsay remains out injured. No idea if anyone is currently looking for cheap competition for their RB/ RWB slot but if you are, Seary could be a potential incoming later in the window.

Started against Salford the other night and supposedly had a shocker, but that was his first senior appearance. Good engine and cross on him by all accounts.

I remember some of your fans when you signed Longstaff and we signed the unknown Elliot Anderson . Stating Langstaff was a superior signing to Anderson -- Look how that ended up.

Well glad you rmemeber that because I didn’t even know Anderson played for you if I’m being honest.

Langstaff was good for us it just disrupted the team a bit, and he had a terrible injury last season - if he can recover from that and get the right club he could play in L1.

The trouble with loans is whatever rep they come with doesn't seem to match what they do on the pitch in many cases.

I still say, despite the obvious financial lure, we rely on loans too much. If they are good, come the end of the loan period they are off to the green pastures further up the table and the team is fcuked next season. Look at us a season ago. Yes we lost Twine and Darling, our own players but we lost a lot of shit hot loanees as well and were totally screwed.

We had 9 loans last season, which was a few too many imo. Some talented lads tbf though, wouldn’t have said no to getting a couple back.

You were pushing the playoffs the season before relegation weren’t you? Or I may have imagined it
