I hope he stays, no idea what happened down at county but he clearly doesn't seem keen on going back.

He's an alright player and I'd be happy to have him full time at Mansfield, but ultimately it's upto county surely?

Maybe he should stay with us for a change of the playoffs :cool1:

We've signed James Dunne from Pompey on a 6 month deal. Been on loan to the Daggers but looks like the midfield enforcer we desperately need with Keith Keane going to Stevenage on a months loan.

Unless we have a forward lined up, McLean leaving makes the decision to release Lisbie even stranger. We are down to Akinde and Gash now as first team strikers.

Randall hasn't lived up to the ability he showed as a youngster at Arsenal. Hackett looks a decent signing though.

Just thought I'd pop by and give my thoughts on Mark Randall.

He's technically excellent, but very lightweight and that's not going to change now. Seeng how he gets on under Martin Allen is going to be interesting to say the least! I'm sure you'll get a few moments of sublime skill but there'll be days when you forget he's on the pitch.

I think most of us wish him all the best though. Bletchley boy an all that...

And for any Daggers fans lurking, good luck with Harry Hickford. Looks solid, though not the quickest which is probably what's held him back from being more involved with us.

Expect Dele Alli down at the odd game. The Hickford's are his virtual foster family (see last weekends "revelations" from his real Mum, taking a £5K fee from the tabloids).

Really good signing for you lot. Only reason Pompey didn't want him was because he refused to relocate there from his home (London?).

He'll do well for you I'm sure.

Disappointed in the Gaffney situation but at least we squeezed a fee of some sort out of Rovers in the end and we save his wages. But such a shame our management have let go one of the most naturally gifted strikers we've had at the club in years.

Dunne looks a good signing and the sort of player we've needed for ages. It's been clear since Derry came in that this had been a real position of weakness. Hopefully Berry will move back more central with Dunne now as he's wasted out wide.

Keith Keane moving to Stevenage is a strange one and I hope the "loan for fitness" reason is true this time. We need him or Dunne long term alongside Berry if we ever want to get out if this division upwards.

Dunne was a popular player for us last season, gave everything and wasn't a bad player. Cook didn't like the fact he didn't want to move down here (Bromley I think). Hasn't been particually missed as Doyle has been quality for us and is good on the ball too.

Looks like Ben Williamson is a done deal from Gillingham. I was worried after Gaffney went today only leaving us with two strikers, but I would have Williamson over Gaffney all day long so will be pleased once this deal is done.

He'd be a decent enough squad player I think, but he is nowhere near the player he once was.

He started his career with us back in 1999, may as well end it here as well!

Don't want to get into it too much really because we're never going to see eye to eye on this. You got some money for a player who up until recently your management didn't rate. He didn't want to play for you anymore and apparently you have a player in on loan who's better than him. Don't really see any reason for Cambridge fans to be upset. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Ben Williamson signs on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee from Gillingham. Really pleased with this signing as he had a good partnership with Barry Corr when on loan.

How the hell have we actually convinced you to pay money for Williamson?!:brill:

Signs on a free, does piss all, then we actually turn a profit!

To be fair, I think it's the first time anyone has paid anything for him. I think he's okay at L2 but if he is, to paraphrase Shaun Derry, the sort of player Cambridge want, then the sort of player they want is fucking useless in League One.

I was amazed when he was included in Rob Page's panic induced retained list and offered a contract, delighted when he turned it down and amazed again when a L1 club took him

He's done a decent job for us and is a good foil for Corr. I couldn't give a fuck what he's done or not done before at Gillingham or in League 1.

To be fair to Ben he wasn't that bad and didn't really get a run in our side.
With MacDonald, Donnelly, Norris and more recently Samuel he wasn't going to get much game time.
He is a genuine, hard working player who is more than good enough for League 2.
The fact is Port Vale offered him a new contract, which he turned down and Edinburgh bought him for us.
I don't reckon Justin is a bad judge of a player, but this deal just seems best for all parties, not least of all Williamson himself.

I'm certainly not upset Aber! I'm one of those fans who fully believe the club comes first and foremost, and fcuk the players, even if they happen to be 'Messi'. I was sure he was going back to you lot, though I thought it would be earlier and he wouldn't have played at Crawley. I can see why Derry picked him, but I didn't agree with his decision. Useless Slew would've been a better option, afaic.

Having said all this, my preferred option would have been to let him rot on the bench without utilising him once. Sadly, we can't afford to do this. I don't really care whether Derry or Jez told him he wasn't wanted, or whether he was enjoying life at Rovers or elsewhere. What he should have done was to show some respect to the club that took a chance on him, and paid his wages for one fcuking year for basically doing nothing.

So, yeah,I'm glad to see him leave to be perfectly honest. We've been through cases like this before and we're still here.

To be fair to Williamson, you boys are flying and he's hardly got a look in. He works hard, has great pace and really stretches the game in key points. BW and Barry Corr really struck up a partnership whilst he was he, so we are all delighted to have signed him.

I would suggest League two is his level, but if you and Port Vale signed him expecting 20 goals a season I can see why you may have been disappointed. Ben does the ugly stuff that allows the other striker or midfielders bombing on the space to score a goal. That's certainly what he brought to our team on his loan.

As for the undisclosed fee, I would suggest a bag of footballs and a few mars bars :bg:

He's played over 200 games at a higher level so I'm pleased with this. Think he will fit in well with what he have.
