Because every time he made an appearance he'd then be injured for weeks. Can you blame Bell for not trusting his durability?
Colkett's injury history:

Joined in the summer of 2022. Missed the entire pre-season due to a calf injury. Then he in his 2nd game away at Grimsby in the league cup, he tore his hamstring and missed 2 1/2 months. He returned in November, played 3 games and in his 3rd start against Tranmere on New Years Day, he injured himself again. Came back in early February, injured again, missed another month. Came back in March and managed to stay mostly injury free from then until the end of the season, but that was mostly due to him only playing 4 times in that stretch.

Made just 5 starts.

This season, he got fit, played most of the pre-season, then in his final game against Barnsley, he injured his calf and didn't return for another month. He did have a stretch between September and early December where he was uninjured, but the manager didn't use him very much. But then, the reason for not picking him became clear when he came on against Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup. Played just 20-30 minutes of that game and did his hamstring yet again, missing all the Christmas period.

Totally unreliable and untrustworthy from a fitness point of view. Yes, he's been available in various stretches over the last 18 months, but whenever he's played, he's broken down within a few games. So of course the manager is not going to play him.

Very little chance he gives Notts County more than 60-70 minutes per match and almost no chance he gives them a run of games where he starts 4-5 times in a row.

As for the comparison to Jodi Jones, I always though that his issues were related to multiple ACL injuries. Those are freak occurences, not muscle weaknesses like Colkett has.

Not disputing anything you've said about Colkett, but ACLs are generally weaker after having been repaired and they are usually repaired with tendons from other parts of the leg which in turn makes them weaker. It's all possible to overcome obviously but you're never back to 100%.

I think as well as what it might say about missing other targets or not wanting to spend loads this season, it seems clear that signing a player like Colkett shows that we're expecting Bostock to play the majority of games for the rest of the season. With recent form I'm not sure that's ideal, but if a replacement wasn't there then there's not much to be done.

Lapslie was much better than that for Mansfield scored some great goals, last minute at Oldham, beautiful goal away to Donny in FA Cup, you lot flatter to deceive on the entirety and that includes players like him.

I dunno where we’d fit him in, always looked most dangerous behind the strikers for us, but that’s where DKD excels and I’m not sure anyone is good as him in the league in that position. Where do you play Laps?
We've played him regularly in that exact position, he just hasn't performed at all. Certainly not a top end League Two player, and absolutely not a player to expect to contribute effectively as a forward threat in a league above.

If Wrexham are signing Bolton and Marriott today that’s very solid business from them.

Players in our squad you would never call a top end league two player, but they are doing the business, all about the right fit. It’s a shame it’s not worked out at Gills for him, plenty of L2 sides will take him imo.

I don’t really wanna sign Laps even if it’s a loan as I said in the summer DKD is far superior so I just don’t see the point. Hopefully I’m proven wrong.

Edit - looks almost certain to be Nichols and Laps who’s coming in now.

They definitely will improve us. If we're not bringing in a CB I'm hoping this means that O'Connell and Tunnicliffe (who both featured against Blackburn) and possibly Hayden are over their injuries.

The big unknown for us today is who will be leaving. Otherwise we will have lots more unregistered players on the books. The ITKs have suggested that Bickerstaff is looking for a loan (likely NL level) and that Young, MacAlinden, Hosannah and MacFazdene have all been told they are surplus to requirements. Certainly I can see Young and MacFazdene being solid signings for most in L2. Hosannah would be too if he wasn't made of biscuits. MacAlinden is non league level.

And there we have it. Bolton confirmed.

The 9am announcement suggests more incomings.

Funny to see Wrexham taking no chances this time around by having the deals done well ahead of the deadline. Lessons learned it seems.

Thank goodness. They teased the Bolton signing with the same image they used for Armstrong. Cheeky scamps.

Marriott only on 18 month deal is sensible.

Lindsay is still on the cards but that might go to the wire, Rotherham asking for more money

really happy with those two signings, i dont have to be refreshing Red Passion every minute for the rest of the day now

I'd expect 4 or 5 more in through the door for Wrexham. you can never be too sure of promotion can you.

Matt Olosunde, Curtis Thompson and Denver Hume are the rumours for us, plus possibly another loan due in.

Charlie Kirk still being mentioned too, and Lewis Cass.

Basically lots of people being mentioned so we will sign an 18 year old on loan last minute!

learnt our mistake when you did that to get promotion from the NL when we weren't allowed to sign players due to the crappy transfer rules

we will never forget WHAT YOU DID.

If you can keep him fit, he's an outstanding signing - he's only fallen down our pecking order because he can't seem to do 90 mins.

Technically, he's a League 1 standard player.

Doidge is a legend here, so obviously nice to see him back. Injuries derailed him a bit at Hibs in the end and he's mainly been on the bench this season, but you can always guarantee he'll put 100% in so reckon this could work out well for us. Gives us something we've been missing, a focal point up top.

Lindsay will be a great signing foe Wrexham, he's tenacious, enthusiastic and a complete pest to the opposition.

Like most of our players he probably isn't quite championship standard but I would be more than happy if he stayed and signed a new contract because he is more than capable in League 1.

Word up here is he will go because Wrexham will pay him more and he want's to secure his families future, so good luck to him.

He owes us nothing, he has always played second fiddle since Rathbone signed, sometimes unfairly in my view, you'll be getting a very honest player.

Yeah Notts fans have a lot of opinions on Curtis Thompson. Now they rue it as one that got away, but when actually at Notts people weren't that upset or surprised when he left.

Obviously having to go a long way back to pass judgement. Local lad, got into the side when still a teenager and always showed real promise and could run for days as a youngster. Tbh he was only really first choice for a couple of seasons during all his time at Notts.

He wasn't great, he wasn't bad but the backdrop was the club was a mess for large periods of this time. Naturally he then went up to L1 Wycombe and did far better, playing week in week out for a long period. So can't have done bad at all. He's done much better than Pies fans thought..

Still only 30 can't see it being a bad signing for Town, will work hard, will get about the pitch, will stick his foot in lots. He won't score but will protect the back four.

Good player, we should never have let him go really, although by all accounts leaving Nottingham was very good for him on a personal level and getting away from the wrong crowd.

He works really hard and has a bit of skill to drive with the ball, obviously haven’t seen him regularly for years but the one thing holding him back was his passing could be very erratic. Has always had injury problems as well although not to a Colkett level - generally a fit for 30 games a season sort.

Good twitter sauce saying we have agreed a deal with Swindon for Jake Cain.

The big story of the day is obviously whether Notts will get six foot four Gambian Alassana Jatta over the line.

It's definitely not a good twitter sauce. One of their latest rumours is Nakhi Wells to Gillingham. Cain is under contract until the end of next season and Gunning is a big fan. I doubt there is anything in this rumour.
