As important as who we sign is who we can get rid of.

As alluded to above, if you have a squad made up mainly of the losers of last season with their losers mentality, then it will take more than 4 or 5 signings however good they are to turn the tide.

I hope/expect we will be looking at exits for a load of them.

I'd like to see the back of quite a few of them if I'm honest, after that terrible season we just had I only think the likes of Guy, Mellish and Neal are worth a starting place in the team.
I'm sure some players such as Armstrong, Lewis and possibly a couple of others will up their game with new better players and characters around them like Aaron Hayden etc.

As for the rest I'm not too hopeful about them and our head of recruitment.

It seems that Rio Adebisi is definitely off as he's not even willing to discuss a new contract. It's a shame that the fee we get for him won't reflect his true value, but at least we'll get a couple of hundred grand and he's too good for League Two anyway. I think Chris Long and Courtney Baker-Richardson are also both likely to turn down their contract offers. Good players, but I'm not sure clubs will be queueing up if they've been paying attention to the last 6 months.

I'm sure we'll be looking at signing him as we really need a quality left back and we may be playing in L2 but we don't plan on staying for long so he won't be too good for us.

Hopefully the fee for him won't be that much.

West Ham United now joining Manchester United in the pursuit of Baylee Dipepa... nice if we can get a bidding war going there!

After inflicting that fucking stiff Mipo Odubeko on us a year ago I hope we charge them double if he goes there. Could do with him netting again for England later against Portugal.

Probably better if he goes to West ham because if he ends up being a star then I'm sure you'll be in for a massive payday sell on claus if he then goes on to join one of the big boys.

Man utd will ruin him.

I would think he'll be going to a top end L1 club

Couple of Midlands clubs after him so anywhere he can develop would be ideal, would like a loan back ideally!

Guy yeah, but I’m not convinced by Mellish and Neal.

Mellish gives possession away too easily for me and Neal can’t run.

I’d keep both as squad players but I’d be disappointed if either are starting come end of the transfer window.

Forest Green were easily picked apart after their success and they're just too small of a club really to sustain themselves in the football league.

Gillingham on the other hand failed to make the playoffs and above because they have a clueless owner who should never have sacked Neil Harris as he would have got them up there even if it was boring, but instead they wanted some coach with a 'philosophy' to manage them which unsurprisingly didn't end well. It's L2 ffs, they should just get them up then think about playing it nicely and out from the back.

We'll see how we do, so let's wait and see who we sign this summer first.
Harris had two points from his last seven games.
A bit of a stretch to say he would have got us up.

Incredible how incorrect one paragraph can be.

That's true about Mellish and Neal but for L2 they should be fine.

Are there any other players in our squad who you would say are worth starting?

It really is 2017 again isn't it.

First we have Gary Johnson overseeing things behind the scenes and now our players are turning down deals to go to Forest Green. This time it's Sean Long and Liam Sercombe.

Dale officially going for it in the Conference.

RIo will be a big loss. Just hope any deal with an interested club gets smashed out quickly and they don't try and do the scummy thing by giving us a peanuts offer.

As for the other 2, with Long good. Let him be someone else's headache next season. CBR will be a loss, but not an irreplaceable one. Again, hope those 2 tell the club soon so they can move on with finding replacements.

Platt is a big loss. For some reason there's a section of our fanbase that don't like him but he's comfortably our best defender and has been pretty consistent in his time here. We are weaker with him leaving that's for sure.

Six foot tall? A central defender? Has played at this level before? Can apparently head the ball?

Cotterill will have seen a lot of them last season I'd imagine, sound like they should be good at National League level. Sort of experienced players he usually likes building his teams around. On paper better then any signing we made in L1, never mind after dropping back to L2.

I like Platt, but didn't expect him to go to Notts considering he can't pass. One of those defenders who'd be better if you cut his feet off and replaced them with two heads.

Weaker in defence now if Byrne is a starter.

It's a sign we've realised we're going to have to compromise a bit, I think. Sounds like we'll plonk him in the middle of the back three where you only have to pass it a few yards either side (assuming we untick the 'free role' option we had Baldwin on).

Disappointing to see him go to another league 2 club, we was made aware yesterday that he was off but thought it maybe for a move to league 1. Good defensively but awful on the ball so not a move I expected tbh.

County just casually taking money club Bradfords best defender. How many Going For It™'s are we going to collect this season.

A very un-Notts signing which actually makes it a very Notts signing. Still expect us to sign another centre-back, so at least having one that is big and can head a ball is better than none that are big and can head a ball

If everyone is Going For It, is anyone Going For It?

Interesting to see (if he really can't pass) how much of a change of approach we're going for, but it'll be nice to not concede at every corner.

At least one more definitely, I'd be after two but maybe it depends if we can shift Rawlinson.

Elliott Nevitt has rejected a new deal from us and signed for Gillingham. We don't pay the biggest wages, but to get him to move down there away from his NW base must have been significant. Can we add them to the "Going for It" list.

I get we'll be outbid in this sort of situation, but it's galling to see him go to a L2 club who finished below us in the table. He should have been looking for a League One club at the very least. Gills fans, you've got a hardworking player who'll give 100% every week. Hard to say if he'll replicate his 16 goals from this season as he's only done it this one time, but he's a good finisher, very durable and should give you double figures at minimum.

The only minor downside is he can get frustrated when things aren't going his way and pick up silly fouls and bookings. But aside from that, it's a very good signing for them and terrible for us.
