We needed some kind of big signing to settle the fan base a bit and show we have some intent of trying to get straight back up so it’s good on that aspect, especially a week before season tickets go on sale.

Any half decent wide man should love playing at Vale Park on our massive pitch so a good start.

If we can keep key players from last season we’d have Curtis, Ojo, Garrity and Chislett in our midfield… get a decent wide man for the other side to Curtis and that’s a top midfield at this level.

It's a very positive signing, no doubt, and one where we're splashing some serious cash. I guess the reason he's gone with us is that we've given him 3 years and people who have ACL injuries can be susceptible to it happening again, so we're taking a bit of a risk. If this is the level of signing we're going to be making then I'm a bit more confident.

Had no idea Port Vale were gonna be throwing silly money around. What's that all about? Clearly straight into the Going For It™ category.
The chairwoman has just had £180 million invested in her main business and has made a few significant fuck ups in the past 2 years, which she has said she will put right. I expect we'll throw a bit more money about before the season starts. We've also got potential windfall coming our way from the potential sale of Baylee Dipepa, the England under 17 starlet.

It makes a change from spending fuck all or ending up with Ryan Fucking Loft and Gavin Massey.

Plus we’ve made decent money on the kid we sold to Villa for an apparent record fee for a schoolboy, Forrester and the kid we sold to Newcastle.

There was a rumour Carol was going to come into huge money on OVF and was going “all in”, the a week later the £180 million deal made the press, hence it was done just after January so too late to turn it around then but then the shock arrival of Moore on a big deal at the same time. So maybe some truth in the initial rumour.

We didn’t get Moore to come into a doomed squad outside the transfer window without some serious budget promises surely?

Lot of talk from York City fans that Dipo Akinyemi is coming to Vale... sounds like he would command a decent fee and got 15 goals and 10 assists last season.

We were linked with Akinyemi last summer under our previous regime after he'd impressed up in Scotland, but non-league York City out muscled us with a bid of 250k.

He'd be allright at this level I think but definitely not worth anything more than 250k.

Ryan Loft looked National league North standard when he played for us around 4 or 5 years ago, so I'm suprised he'd somehow managed to find clubs in L1 and L2 since.

Still fucking scored against us though.

As well as 3 against us for Scunthorpe and another for Bristol Rovers.

Port Vale, you've got a great player if he stays fit. Curtis generally started or came on as an impact player. If he was fully fit I've no doubt that he could play in L1. He leaves with my blessing and with some wonderful memories.

Presume him and Chizzy (if still here) will both get a good reception from your fans then?

Getting rid of Wrexham, Stockport and Mansfield was supposed to get rid of the stupid money in lge 2, then Vale walk in with a 700k bid for a non league player!

Thats just a rumour, I would personally be annoyed if it was true as for that money we could surely get better or certainly more proven.

I think we will focus more on higher wages than transfer fees such as with Curtis.

It's in this thread it's no longer a rumour even if you don't sign him everyone knows you were able to bid 750k for a non league player.

He's signed for us. Seems like he'll be a good addition with slight question marks over injury. He'll have cost us a bit.

What I like is the fact that he seems like a real shit who loves winding up opposition...we need some of these.
Apparently we were also in talks but only offered a 1 year deal due to his injury issues. You are like us, have lots of injury issues but keep signing more sicknotes!

That's my niggle with this one. ACL's can happen again and again. Having said that, he's just come through half a season with Wimbledon, so it could turn out OK.

I wish we had pushed the boat out like this in league one. We'd probably still be in it now! I can only think the change in approach is the fact that Carol has more money to play with. We've been pretty cautious with budgets really in recent years.

Don't think she had much choice, that said I don't think we've been overly tight with money, just spent it on quite a bit of rubbish!

Curtis was a fan favourite for us. Always gives 100% and loves to niggle opposition players. Scored some great goals with his right foot cutting in from the left and also decent in the air. Not the quickest or most skillful but does what he's good at really well.

Hopefully he has a trouble free pre-season and tears it up next year. (His mum's good fun on Twitter/X too.)

Vale offering £975k for a non league player is insane, silly money.

Sounds like Matty Platt is off. Would be disappointed if he left.

Is this true what I’m hearing about Port Vale offering a seven figure fee for a non-league player? Mental.
