Now he does sound like a Notts defensive signing.

My first reaction about Platt from Bradford was ‘the Bradford we stuck 7 goals past?’ but thankfully he only played in the second half at ML.

Played in the passing team at Barrow must mean he’s not that useless with his feet?
despite what Bradford fans say he can pass the ball as well as the average L2 centre half. He is also quite good at playing the long diagonal ball out to the left wing

The Platt we saw was a good defender who won most of his headers and if your team is under the cosh he was good.

I wouldn't say his passing was good though and I've seen better at this level who are far more comfortable on the ball at the back.

A good defender who wins a lot of headers has been a novelty for us for a few seasons now so certainly what was/is required.

Whereas comfortable on the ball defenders who can pass we've had an excess. Sounds a good solid signing, no more, no less.

He doesn't need to be John Stones, what we desperately.need is a central defender to attack the ball when crosses come in, we're consistently second to the ball and too often it takes two or three goes to clear the danger.
He sounds like a decent L2 centre half and that is an improvement on last season.

Oliver Bainbridge from Sunderland according to Alan Nixon. 18yr old LB, I've got no idea.

4th highest wage bill in the national league is a top end league 2 budget? Must be another tinpot league.

No way that is true

Oldham is the only one you could suggest might be higher

York 100%. Possibly Southend?
Perhaps top end L2 was overstating things a tad but my spidey sense is tingling and it's telling me you will be up there by the end of the summer. What I will say though is that there is a note on the Chesterfield file that points out that there is a history of trying to downplay budgets, which we're seeing in full effect with these claims of 4th highest NL budget. Going For It™ status is a lot like quicksand. Once you've been flagged and start thrashing around you only sink deeper.

Nothing appears to be happening much so far at Grimsby or anywhere else. Those poor agents must be worried they'll get no commission if we all wait until the last minute to pick up free transfer fodder.

I am hoping for a couple of proper footballers for us and not the usual lame dog's and donkey's we normally seem to sign.

Alex Hunt to York for a fee sounds like it's on. I can't see there being many correct rumours coming from our end until the hours leading up to official announcements. Seems to be strongly suggested that we've got one deal done but nobody knows who it is.

I waiting to hear some pre-season bingo cliche answers from managers. Every years its the same. "Waiting for the right target", "only want players who will improve us", "being patient" etc. Any more?

You missed Artell's "Recruitment is a science". He loved that line. Guarantee he uses it at least once this Summer.

I hope we get another signing through the door in the next week. If only for the health and sanity of some of our fans. The way they are talking you’d think we were in the last week of August.

Don't know why fans just cannot switch off and chill in the summer.

Euros to look forward to and always some good cricket to take in

Did we say 4th? Typo, meant to say 14th

Exactly.

Fans who are constantly scouring twitter and club forums for rumours during this period of the year are wasting their time and need a break from it.

Most rumours end up being bollocks anyway.

We had the 3rd highest budget in the conference last season as confirmed by one of our owners, no idea which one cos they’re twins. Oldham won the budget league title, York came 2nd (spunked £100k on an average lump it centre half).

Agree that we are Going For It™, though. We’ll have a competitive budget this year.

June and July are the best months of the year. Good weather, summer sport on, and not having the stress of what mood you're gonna be in at 5pm on a Saturday.

Can't afford him with that 3rd in NL budget you have, unless he's playing for free like Grigg and Naylor
It’s not that we had a low budget, it’s that Oldham and York had high ones. We had a small squad compared to them (well Oldham at least), we used the joint fewest amount of players in the league. Our strikers were Grigg, Quigley and Curtis who would’ve been on about thruppence a week. I know facts aren’t fun when you’re trying to get your digs in though.

Our club president DEMANDS that we sign 'Welcome to Wrexham' star Paul Mullin in order for us to gain many club followers from across the pond.

Yeah think you’ve completely missed the point.

You doing on here anyway, you lost?
You ever made a comment on the Premier League before or are you not allowed because Chesterfield aren't in it

Seems Donny has signed Jordan Gibson and his dad. One of my least favourite football players. Twat.

Jordan Gibson is a talented player for sure, and he had many good performances for us over the past few years. Even last season he produced some.

Yet probably 95% of our fan base including myself weren’t bothered in the slightest that we released him which says a lot. Releasing him was right for both parties.

If he gets his head down at Donny, concentrates on his football and gets his dad to wind his neck in, he could be a really good player for them.
