Interesting swap as it sounds like Baldwin and Platt are polar opposites, Platt a lower league clogger centre half who because he’s so basic doesn’t get caught on the ball because that’s not his game (he’ll leave plenty unmarked six yards out but that’s another story). The central defence was our biggest weakness last season glad to see it being acted upon so early.

Love Aden Baldwin, didn’t matter how calamitous he was last season, I couldn’t bring myself to dislike him. Truly the first of his breed, a centre back with the mind and confidence of a Number 10. Him playing on the worst pitch in the league will be box office.

As a player he’s the anti-Platt it seems, got a bit of pace to cover in behind, good on the ball but not as good as he thinks he is which is why he’ll just make absolutely mind-blowing mistakes and he can’t really defend the box well but if you pair him with a big brute that’ll probably be fine.

Done this is
An actual real life defender! He seems to have featured a lot in L1 the last 2 years and is the right age. Only played half the games this year though, but whether that's through injury or just not getting in, I don't know.

Happy to bet any money out pitch will be no where near the worst next season, we were forced by idiotic refs to play two games that should have been called off and we got other games that were nowhere near as bad called off. Go look at our later season games between 2019-23 it’s always been like a carpet and will be again next season as it’s getting a fortune spent on it to repair it.

As it's that time of year again...

A League 2 new signing template

Fan: We've just signed [Player] from [Club].
Any good [Club] fans?

Response 1:-
[Club] Fan:
Yeah he's class. Gutted to see him go.
Fan: Great, sounds like exactly what we need in [Position]. Nice to see us plucking the best players from other clubs.

Response 2:-
[Club] Fan:
He's decent but struggled to break into our team so good move for him to get some games.
Fan: He'll probably up his game and improve playing alongside better players here like [Current Player].

Response 3:-
[Club] Fan:
No he's absolutely shite.
Fan: We've probably only signed him as back up. Injuries were a nightmare last season so we need someone who knows they'll be 8th choice and won't get a look in if everyone's fit. Sounds like a good signing to pad out our reserve team.

I can't agree with that. We had a few horror shows but had the fourth most clean sheets in the league. Our actual weakness was at the other end - we were the lowest scorers in the top 10.

Agreed.

Not sure any of these incoming defenders improve us much, if at all.

I’m glad you said it, ‘cos I’m sick to death of hearing about how shit our pitch is. It’s that shit, it was voted the second best the season before.

That televised Stockport game ruined it! Game should’ve never gone ahead.

SECOND BEST PITCH IN LEAGUE TWO SEASON 22/23 YOU'LL NEVER SING THAT
This post reminded me of when we played Forest in the League Cup a couple of years ago one of their fans was trolling our admin on Twitter with “Champions of Europe you’ll never sing that”.

No shit Sherlock. :bg:

Ollie clarke gone to swindon for an undisclosed fee, class player for league 2 and a little surprised to see him go, maybe for potential family reasons.

Was on our kit reveal last night so slightly confusing!

Brilliant technical player at league 2 level (can’t comment on league 1), keep him fit and happy days.

Genuinely fascinated to see how Baldwin does elsewhere, gutted to see him go after his heroics in the playoffs but I don't think it was going to work out for him here after this season. I hope he works it out at Bradford, there's a great player in there somewhere but maybe aiming to be a perfectly fine L2 centre back who doesn't give 8 goals away a season would be better.

Ollie Clarke is a top L2 midfielder, be happy to keep him in L1 but getting a fee for him at 31 is great, plus with us signing Baccus it makes sense.

Combative type that never stops running, unfortunately he will continually pick up slight muscle injuries. Great signing for Swindon mind.

Well, that's more encouraging than I expected. What kind of player is he?

Basically what Conk has said above mate. Really solid for us over the years, does have a knack of picking up injuries that keep him out for 2/3 weeks here and there mind. We’ve managed him well thiss season and in big games away at Stockport and MK for example he was pivotal
