I think you can look at it in 2 ways - one they don’t really back a specific manager with signings - it’s not like when a Steve Evans rocks up at a club and wants all his guys and then it’s an expensive gamble. So if Maynard doesn’t work out, we’d replace him with a coach of a similar profile who can work with the same group of players

Second way is of course that Maynard has little excuse now, the bomb scares we had in defence last season and consistent ‘individual errors’ are the only reasons I’m not ‘out’ on him, I think he starts the season under more pressure than pretty much any other manager in the league
I think it takes a specific type of manager/person, especially in the lower leagues who's happy working in that kind of environment. Most prefer to identify targets themselves and do the player signing. It is more of a head coach you've got than a manager. Still, you've got to say it's had more success than failure so far.

Pies. You remember you got Kewell and Boldewijn from us?

This is your payback.

Tsaroulla was one of a few players we had that I thought was league 1 standard. He will go up and down the line all day, has a decent cross and will chop in with a few goals....and he has a song. Tequila transcribed to Tsaroulla.

I wish him the very best.

It will work as long as the head coach is supported. If it gets to a situation where we keep turning over head coaches because we're expecting them to work miracles with rubbish squads, rubbish medical teams and the like it will fail and we'll go back to being a manager's graveyard.
Fair play to the owners though they've given all four manager's every chance with good budgets and the support network behind the team to give them the best chance.
We may not have the biggest playing budget but I suspect we've one of the biggest overall spends when the stuff you don't see is added in.

That sounds promising, I think he ripped us up at yours in the second half if I've got the right player.

Just imagining these signings with Luke Williams still in charge…

I mean we’re not gonna sack him after 5 games like previous owners, but the expectation must be top 3 given who’s gone up and who’s come down. I doubt we’re 10th biggest budget anymore.

Tranmere paying us a fee for josh davidson is next level. I'd have paid him off personally.
Did OK for a while but very very average

It's really not that difficult to comprehend, is it? We have a good League One goalkeeper. We have an excellent midfield for this level and more than good enough for League One (double figures for the two attacking ones).

It's our.bottom 8 League Two defence and National League strike force that saw us going down. Our entire attack line scored TEN goals all season in all competitions. Two of them were 5 yard tap ins, 1 was a GK howler, 1 was a penalty, 1 was a scuffed, mishit shot and 3 were from a 17 year old youth product. Absolutely embarrassing.

I simply don't want to imagine that tbh. Victims of our own success, as hoped.

Our owners approach of having a clear plan, distinctive style and philosophy, recruitment team , head coach rather than manager will work in the medium/long term as long as they are our owners and invested and engaged as they have been since arriving. Plus they don't embarrass the club like former owners.

This new approach at marvellous Meadow Lane pisses all over our previous more traditional haphazard approach. I prefer it is so many ways of including the continuance and succession. Plus to have a realistic non gimmicky long term plan is such a refreshing change. Took some getting used to as a Notts fan.

A particular demographic of the fanbase still can't adjust or wont no matter what is happening at the club. But they are in the clear minority, too old and lost causes. Let em moan

I'd have accepted 20 quid just to get rid of him. No doubting his attitude and effort but the harder he tried the worse he got. I'd like to give Tranmere supporter's something positive about him but I can't.

Won’t have Enzio in the same sentence as Kewell, overpaid for him but when he was on he was unplayable. He’s firmly in the Mount Rushmore of Dutch Notts players with Genaro Snijders, Marcel Cas and errr Civard Sprockel?

You had Dijkstra?! To be fair he's not built like a footballer, and with that bad leg...

We did indeed but he died before my very eyes at the Baseball Ground on the evening of the 20th April 1994.

Great night for the packed away end with the limited view until the 78th minute. So close yet so far.

Poor Meindert

That bad? Adkins has managed Davison before so must think he's capable of getting something out of him,
The rumour mill suggests we're in for former Marine striker Sol Solomon. Likely to be one or two attacking players leaving if that's correct

You can't fault his work rate but the goal return is poor. Good luck to him though, a thoroughly nice guy.

The weird brothers are certainly supporting Maynard to the hilt. Can he afford to fail now?
I think the weird brothers took the business decision that they wouldn't waste money trying to compete with Wrexham and Stockport's spending last season and looked longer term. People thought they'd lost the plot a bit, but longer term it was quite smart.

Whoever thought they "lost the plot" must be looking from the outside in, and from some distance.

They are nerds, wealthy, smart nerds.

They're uncomfortable in front of a camera but undeniably great so far.

Didn't they sign David McGoldrick?

Yeah I'm not sure. McGoldrick was a marquee signing and they did sign a few players like Crowley and Randall who all seemed to be replacements for players who had left. They also brought people like Dan Gosling, Jatta and Robertson in as the season went on. But they never needed to compete with us and Stockport anyway .

Tbf their defence looked OK in the NL so maybe the need to upgrade wasn't so obvious. I doubt they had planned for successive promotions anyway, I can see them building up slowly and going up in a season or two as it is. Maybe not with Maynard.

I think we definitely fancied it last summer. Come January I think it’s probably true that we were looking a bit longer term and had decided the season couldn’t be salvaged without a fit Palmer so the signings we made were more looking towards this year rather than chucking the budget at a senior goalkeeper and centre backs to get us in the top seven.

Excuse me, we have the monopoly on dreadful forward lines in this division. Know your place.
