We are gonna sign Joe Pigott off orient. Was great for us last tine but has done nothing since. I never rated him that much but as our fourth striker a decent option.

We have re-signed Courtney Baker Richardson on a 2 year contract.

I'd say there's probably at least a dozen teams that probably think they have a decent chance of promotion. As always, it'll be down to how teams gel. We've spent a lot this summer but it doesn't guarantee success.

Level-headed post - thumbs up from me.

This is an area (I think) we’re particularly strong in - team morale/togetherness.

6-7 of our so called started XI have been with the club for a minimum of 2 years.

During those two years, we finished 6th and 9th - missing out on the play-offs by a point after such a slow start.

Arguably, L2 is a damn sight more competitive than last season’s debacle - you don’t have the money powerhouses that were Wrexham, Stockport and Mansfield.

As I’ve touched on before, you don’t need quality players to get out of this league. Historically speaking, it’s more often than not achieved with team spirit and tactical nouse.

Don't think the move he was hoping for, whatever it was, materialised. As others have said, it'll be interesting to see who of Crewe and Newport get the better of the Bogle and CBR exchange this season.

I'm a bit confused here, if he's better than a struggling, out of position Daniel Harvie, which he showed he was last season, then it's an upgrade on what we had when we finished 4th in the league.

I just really don't rate him and was surprised to see he got a L2 loan from Chesterfield. He's always looked a bang average NL level defender to me.

That said Williamson knows far more about football than me and Lindsay seemed to get decent performances out of him so who knows.

Taken a punt on developing an ex-Villa youngster, Dylan Mitchell, after impressing in our 2 friendlies. Could be an ‘anything’ signing.

I understood why we took a gamble on him last summer, as he's different to all the strikers we had, but it hasn't worked for him here, he simply doesn't fit into Wellens style of play which is being able to press and have a bit of pace - Piggott has neither of those. Scored 5 goals for us and showed a few nice touches in places, but he found it hard playing in our team as the lone striker.

Get him playing in a two with a James Hanson again and who knows he might get his goalscoring touch back.

He's scored 8 goals in 93 game's since leaving us. I can't say I'm impressed in any way whatsoever. He did well for us but since then he's fallen off a cliff. I thought our recruitment had improved !!!! Mid table beckons this season.

Yes, last time we were promoted we didn't have the most expensive or most talented squad but we had a great togetherness....it goes a long way. Moore has not proved anything yet as Vale manager but he's certainly been given the tools to do it, so no excuses.

You just need one quality 'cheat code' loan to get out of this league

Cheers lads.

Loft's not a bad player if you play to his strengths, him with Abo Eisa sat behind him kept us up a few years ago

He's not a L1 level player though so weird move

He's fucking garbage. Tries hard, that's it.

Couldn't finish his dinner. His agent is God.

i wish he was a bad player, that would have been an improvement.

genuinely i think most vale fans would have paid anyone to take him off us. its a dreadful signing for cambridge.

I don't agree with this take totally. Piggot is 4th choice striker so that's OK in my book. We are decent up top, stronger ino in midfield, only unknown is left back and how the keeper will be.

You lot were utter crap last season. Most of your fans on here spent the entire season complaining about how bad the football was. The fact that you finished 9th backs up my point about how crap the division is.

We definitely had a stinking hangover stemming from the Hughes debacle. Then we had the protests to contend with (which was right in the middle of when we played you at BP - hence the low following).

I wouldn’t say our football is easy on the eye, but we still had one of the better defences in the league - and despite all over that, you struggled to beat us. How longs it been again, almost 26 years?

21 attempts - maybe next season, pal! In fact, the last time you beat us, we got promoted to the Prem that season. I’ll gladly concede our unbeaten run if it results in another promotion.

That you're saying that we struggled to beat you when we finished 21st and you finished 9th is precisely what I'm saying though. The standard outside of the top three (who were collectively probably the best three teams to go up automatically I've seen at this level) from bottom to top was rubbish.

I agree and which is why I don't think it is a bad thing that Crawley are doing as they would have come straight down ala Carlisle if they'd have kept that same, average at best, squad and it surprises me teams are so desperate to pick them apart. This level is very poor tbh, poorer arguably than last time we were down here, it seems better because there are some big clubs that have fallen from grace, but they have the same issues as everyone else of having to bring in 4th tier crap. I thought Crewe at their place for instance were appalling, one game I know, but teams also are so inconsistent at this level.
