Not sure how Grimsby line up but generally speaking we got the best out of him playing as a RCB (think Hartlepool used him that way too) and especially when he had David Worrall outside him at RWB. Liked to get forward and involved in the attack from that position. As I say truth be told I think what’s stalled him a bit is a combination of injuries when he was hitting form or the way we constantly changed the personnel in defence. It’s just hard as someone who is still rather young to manage that. Hope he does well though if he ends up signing for you.
I'd imagine we'll be flitting between variations of 532 and 433 and as mentioned below Cass plays and covers exactly the same positions as Mullarkey who has just gone to Crawley so that RCB slot is open now. Did you ever play him in a four? Either at CB or RB?
2 Signings in a day, GTFC signing shedloads of players again!

Absolutely cannot wait to see this lad tear up this tinpot division or have his contract paid up before the end of the January window.

Think I predicted 7th for Port Vale in the prediction thread.

If I could change it now I’d definitely have them top 3.

Like our Gambian Prince I absolutely love a random foreign player arriving at the club especially one that impressed early but that is probably the most disappointing forename I've ever seen. Svanthórsson is quality and Dadi a real bonus.

Welcome Jason to L2

Almost to a fault the two managers he played under at Vale Darrell Clarke and Andy Crosby would religiously stick to three at the back so not very often in a back four. There are times we'd occasionally switch to a back four within games for a period of time or say a pizza trophy game maybe but I couldn't recall how he'd have done in that situation. I'd say with what we asked him to do from the RCB spot it was a similar skillset to being an orthodox RB, not sure of at CB in a two though.

Looks a fun signing the striker. Never know quite how they'll take to the English leagues but if they hit it off you're laughing really and if they don't generally they won't have cost you a huge sum.

I think it's pronounced Hasson and not Jason if that makes it any better?

This is looking to be one of the overall toughest L2 divisions I have ever seen going into a new season which is good because we want to see better quality down here and hopefully they'll be no Notts County esk style defending from anyone.

Personally I wish it didn't look so competitive.

But we still want the entertainment and excitement that the 'entertainers' provided last season thanks to unprecedented levels of comedy individual defending, bang average goalkeepers, and an overall sieve defence. Combined with of course the best player in the league, the clear top assister and the best goalscorer.

What a frustrating but fun combination. What we need to avoid is dull, and goal shy teams.

We need someone take over the reigns of the 'entertainers' for next season. Any volunteers?

Top signing for the Vale on paper. My SWFC supporting friends raved about him a couple of seasons ago when they got promoted from League 1, and still suggest that he’s ’far too good for league 2’ (Classic line from supporters of higher league clubs mind )

Shows what a ball up we made in January as we’d have been fine with these signings in L1.

Moore seems to have a big pull, and if the investment in Carols business is boosting our financial power that maybe came in just too late, hence the big Moore deal in Feb, the rumours I heard suggested that and now it’s coming off… all be it we are maybe flying under the radar with it as we’ve never had any public statements from Carol about how or why we are clearly throwing much bigger money about.

We’ve never really had this so it’s nice to experience as long as we are careful in how we go about it.

The foundation delivered its 1 millionth free meal to people struggling as well today so plenty of positives. After 18 tough months hopefully we can start to enjoy it again.

I have no care of ever finding out as we won't be in this poxy little league for very long.

Make your mind up pal is it a poxy little league or is it one of the toughest L2’s you’ve ever seen?

As well as Alex Kirk (who scored tonight), we have wingback Elliot Thorpe on trial. Both looked good against Step 2 giants Alfreton Town.

I think we’re a week away from ‘where’s the Langstaff money?!’ comments

You can change it, the seasons not started yet.

I’m a man of my word. Once I commit to something that’s it. I’ve submitted it to the thread and it wouldn’t feel right going back on it.

Kirk looks a potentially decent option to be fair. Just released by Arsenal and seemingly a decent loan spell with Bromley last season, in a position we need some numbers but can take a bit of a punt.

Trial by Wikipedia, but that Thorpe looks the most trialist man ever. 23 and made about four senior appearances, he’ll never be seen again.

Seems that we have Colchester a “too good to turn down” offer to get Hall.

Rumour this end was that it was approaching £200k which is an awful lot of money for a 31 year old League Two defender who is coming off the back of a very poor season. How close that is, I don't know.

Was Thorpe no 14? Thought he looked promising, certainly worth another game of two.

That does seem a lot but we know he can deliver at this level for us and was a huge reason we got over the line last time. Some players just work at certain clubs.

Reynolds and McElhenney at Wrexham have been on the phone to Darren Moore and told him he needs to calm down his spending a bit.

Not really sure at present what is going on at Morecambe it is so frustrating ,apparently we do have interested parties ,1 of the bids being talked about is from Sarbjot Jahal who last year could not pass the efl fit and proper test and we were basic in limbo for nearly a year .Our fans trust also have another interested party who contacted them saying he has passed all the appropriate tests and is ready to go , but it is upto the owner ,let's hope he sees sense and takes an offer ,hopefully the right 1 for the future of this club and not just his pocket

They're currently around 8th in the betting. Kind of flying under the radar.

I can't believe it's Jahal, but he has been reorganising the structure of his companies (if you can call it that). Will be a disaster for you if that's the buyer.

If that guy failed the fit and proper test (and how dodgy must you be to do that?) there’s surely no way he’d get rubber stamped now? Hopefully things can resolve themselves for Morecambe.

That's what everyone thought last season and other than Stockport, Mansfield, Wrexham, Crewe for half a season at the start and Donny for about a third of the season at the end it was absolutely gash. I could count the teams on one hand that looked better than us and we were in the bottom 6 for most of the season. Very little difference between the teams that went down and the teams that finished 8th/9th in my opinion. Could see it being a similar season with a few sides that have splashed the cash being significantly better than the rest, one or two Crawleys sneaking up, some bang average playoff teams and then 16 or 17 crap teams trying to run the clock down 20 mins in to games against each other because they've gone 1-0 up early doors. Oh and there is also Notts who win or lose every match 6-3.

I'd say there's probably at least a dozen teams that probably think they have a decent chance of promotion. As always, it'll be down to how teams gel. We've spent a lot this summer but it doesn't guarantee success.

Fair play, that is a cracking signing for this level

Port Vale and MK Dons in particular are making a lot of eye catching signings (apart from MK signing Maguire lol) . In League one they just seem to be signing mediocre L2 players, somethings not right.

I'm a bit confused here, if he's better than a struggling, out of position Daniel Harvie, which he showed he was last season, then it's an upgrade on what we had when we finished 4th in the league.

Crewe fans, someone on our forum has said Marschall has rocked up at Gresty road. Can I suggest you promptly boot him back from where he came as he was the absolute worst goalkeeper we have ever had and probably cost us autos last season because Williamson insisted on playing him.
