I think from what I've heard they may be loaning Jed Ward from us. Brilliant goalie who has just been given a 4 year contract. He is only 20 and played for the England under 20's. We need him to go out to a fourth division side where he will come back next season and be our first team goalie. He need the experience of playing regular football.
He looked very good when we played Wealdstone last season. Very comfortable in possession, and a good shot stopper too from what I recall. Only slight would be that he seemed to lack height?

Must be decent anyway if I can remember a random keeper from last season

Notts fans, how is John Bostock these days? We're rumoured to be sniffing about.
Started off last season brilliantly but went downhill when {Maynard came in}I mean everyone inexplicably got tired.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a player’s form go off a cliff as much as Bostock’s did last season, apart from maybe McGoldrick as well last season. Midfield generalissimo to lightweight liability. Local media asked loads of questions about it but didn’t get an answer. Oh no they didn’t sorry not a fucking word.

Thanks all. At the moment nothing concrete but I've heard a few rumours we are trying to work something out. Wouldn't say we've exactly got legs in midfield, Ollie Clark is also 31 and Ofoborh is very much a sitting defensive midfielder. Be interesting to see if anything comes of the rumour.

A tad dramatic. We lost Palmer to season ending injury, and two months later we signed a promising but hardly consistent and raw Robertson.

We had so little competition in those areas Bostock and McGoldrick had to play no matter their form or fitness.

We've signed Harrison Sohna who's been on trial all summer. He's from Gloucester so is a local lad, previously in Sunderland and Villa's academies. Not had a club for a year though.

I remember Didzy being absolutely fuckin fantastic in the home game against Donny ( I remember standing up and clapping that turn thing he did something I’ve never done for a Notts player) and playing again 5ish days later against Morecambe and being very good, Williams’ last 2 home games in charge.

He literally never did anything meaningful for the rest of the season, apart from that tap in under JOB. If you want to cling to the ‘tiredness’ lifeboat fire away but his energy pills must have fucked off to Swansea with Williams if that’s the case.

Bostock had definitely gone off the boil before Williams left but he got some good rest in later on and was always dogshit when he came on even off the bench.

Didzy’s form dipped last season no doubt but if you think that has nothing to do with things like being asked to play 260 minutes in a week at the end of December, as a 36 year old then…

I thought Bostock was really poor, looked off the pace a lot but also made some really poor decisions and errors in possession (not to mention giving away like 20 penalties). World Class bloke though and still think he could do a job if you put him in a 3 man midfield with mobile players

Nope nothing at all our end, we paid a fee and signed him on a three year deal, expecting him to kick on in L1 not drop down.

Why would playing a lot over Christmas mean he plays shit/ is non existent for the rest of the season?

I thought McGoldrick was a bit of a disappointment generally last season, did well in the home games against Swindon, Donny et al nowhere to be seen generally in the big games and basically anywhere away but even by those low standards he did nothing once Maynard came in. (Like a few others to be fair)

Anyway apologies we’ve hijacked the Port Vale are Winning the League Thread.

Overall he was a tad disappointing but I believe there is a fair bit of recency bias going on here.

RavenBish summed it up better than I could, he was clearly overplayed. The change in head coach didn't help matters for him or anyone in the squad.

Basically he was good in 2023 showing his class in individual moments on most games and disappointing in 2024. His goals and assists dried up.

Agree re Bostock him and Baldwin dropped off hugely last season.

I love Bostock but there are probably a few reasons he was poor last season.

Many of them mentioned already but Palmers injury for me is the biggest of all

Bostock is technically fantastic but has some horrible errors in him like against Boreham Wood, Mansfield and the Panenka

If you don't plan on playing him every game I think that he could still be useful at this level. He certainly turned it on for Walsall away

Rumors of us being interested in James Norwood according to the Oldham forum. Hope there's nothing in that.

Might be too similar to Cook but Norwood even now is probably good for 15 at least I’d imagine.

Appears they've signed Matty Young on loan from Sunderland. Top Class keeper, even though only 17.

20 year-old Bobby Pointon has signed an improved contract, keeping him at VP until at least 2026. A few clubs have been sniffing round him, so it made sense tying him down.

Managed to notch 4 goals - 4 assists in his debut season from the wing. Promising player.

If the question is, would you rather have Norwood or Vadaine Oliver, the answer is Norwood every day of the week, twice on Sunday (but Saturday makes more sense).

Our fans forget the wedge Oliver is on - it’ll be almost like-4-like financially speaking.

Bristol Rovers sign Promise Omochere for a club record fee ? Fleetwood certainly trying to balance the books. We got him from our sister club in Ireland, only 23 with plenty of potential. Disappointed to see him go but that's the harsh reality. Got to say he missed some real sitters towards the end of last season, however wish him well with the Gasheads

We've signed right-back Lewis Payne from Southampton.

Played at Newport last season so was a bit of a no-brainer.

Officially confirmed Filip Marschall on a season long loan deal. Will probably be the number 2 to Tom Booth and hopefully won't be thrown in at the deep end. Keeping my expectations low.
