Port Vale fans what’s Nathan Smith like?
Decent defender, awful footballer. If you just want someone to kick it and head it, he's perfect but don't give him the ball to his feet. Been a great servant for us, but league 1 is too much for him....he got caught out positionally and refs have started wising up to his dark arts. He's not quick but deceptively strong and decent in the air given he's not the tallest.

Always gives his absolute all though and when he's got someone decent beside him, he can mop up and put his head where it hurts. Generally think it would be best for all parties if he moved on.

In my humble opinion, him and Loft are relegation team signings though.

Crap imo, but other people have different ideas. He frightened me to death. Better as a left back than a CB, but that could be down to having a bit less defending to do.
No I agree I didn’t rate him much either in the end. He started okay but as time went on I went off him. Prone to an absolute stinker where he looks like he’s never played football before.

Had one very good game which was against Watford in the FA cup which gives some of our fans this false impression that he was good for us & that we should bring him back this summer. But he wasn’t, he was average and I’m glad we didn’t go back in.

The good things about him are that he’s fast, athletic and has a decent passing range too.

Bad points, he's a bit lummoxy in defence, switches off and loses his man constantly and day dreams. He's an 'all the gear, no idea' sort of guy in terms of the physical attributes are there but the brain as a defender isn't. I think he might lose his way if he doesn't nail his position as well, as you wouldn't class him as a flying wing back, and he's frightening as a CB.

Very much our kind of thing.
He's definitely the kind of profile player we sign. Actually quite hopeful about him.
We need a striker who's got some pace to get behind a defence for squad depth and then Maynard has no excuses to not be pushing for the playoffs.

We know the sort we had Serge Makofo - who had to be talked through the game by Rob Scott . When the ball rolled under his foot one too many times and out of play Scott turned to a frantic main stand and said 'he's f*kin useless ' didn't play much after that and not sure where Makofo ended up .

Well, our first game is at Chesterfield so when he pops in the winner in the 90th minute we can all cream our jeans!

Highly rated youngster who had two sub appearances (bizarrely losing twice to Bristol City) who went on to have a stellar career.............................................................. on Championship Manager. One of those 'cheat' signings that would ensure a winning team through the leagues and into Europe. Amazed to see that he is still playing.

For a Friday night and on telly I think we’ve got a few going. Sold the first allocation, now selling the second.

Good to have you back!
If you do your allocation then it’ll be a sell out i’d have thought, or atleast very close to. How many have we given you in total?

Of course. How typical.

No surprise I saw him score a winner against us for you at BP in an FA Cup Replay.
Yeah I didn’t go to the replay but I went to the away game at Vale Park I remember we should have scored after about a minute and then just defended for the rest of the game for a 0-0.

Sounds like we’ve had two bids for Will Evans turned down looking elsewhere now.

Jake Taylor on trial with us, always weird when a player appears on trial suddenly at the backend of preseason. I don’t really know where he’d fit in with Robertson, Palmer, Edwards and Hinchy

That the Jake Taylor ex of us and Forest or the Exeter one? If it’s the one that was with us really good player if he could ever be fit.

The ex-Vale one yeah, the sort of ‘promising technical player who has had a meandering career and lost his way a little but still young’ profile we seem to go for.

Only rationale I can think of is that Robertson, Edwards and Hinchy are all players that prefer to be holding midfielders so maybe we’re lacking someone a bit more attacking/box to box as a depth option/alternative

He will certainly fit that criteria for you. His ability to pick a pass is as good as any Vale midfielders not named Ollie Arblaster. Ran the show for us in our playoff final v Mansfield a couple of years ago. He’s just one of them if he gets tackled and goes to ground be prepared for a sharp intake of breath with the expectation of him missing about 4 weeks minimum.

You probably should've been 2 up tbh.

We were dire in the replay though.

Loved Jake Taylor, think we had him about three or four spells!

First time he scored a fair few, second time struggled a bit as did the whole team, permanent time was the promotion season where he didn’t feature barely until the play off semi final and in the final he absolutely bossed it, IiRC did a ridiculous pirouette to put Mal or Woz in.

As said though the downside is his injury record which is what has probably held him back.

Certainly no doubting his ability in L2 though.

Sounds the epitome of a Notts signing. Technically good, career going in circles, a bit injury prone but enough potential to be worth taking a chance on.

We’ve ditched technical players for brutes.
Sutton did that last season, absolute giants and beat us twice but didn't end well for them.
I like a team to have height , even if not great players they will always compete and be able to defend set pieces but you do need technical ability to go with it.
I think you and Grimsby are the hardest to place at the moment both could do a lot better than last season or tank.

Jayden Luker on loan from Luton is the latest rumour for us. 19 year CM who was on loan at Woking last season.
