Don't rate him from what I remember of him. Potentially a bad signing, in my opinion.

We are apparently close to arranging a deal to bring Andrew Boyce back to Blundell Park, very happy with that.

He's terrible, moves like he's towing a caravan in quicksand

He was fine when he was here. Filled in at right back a couple of times. Wouldn't be upset to see him here but I'd hope he's not a guaranteed starter.

I disagree with the opinions on Boyce, very good for us last time here in my opinion and happy if the rumours are true, albeit as Paul Haddock suggests not to be a guaranteed starter though as i would go with Gowling and Pearson as first choice.

We've signed Ryan Donaldson and Yann Songo'o. No idea what Yann is like.

I'd agree with Fish above, I thought he was a good player for us, certainly better than conference level at least, so i'd be happy to sign him, a decent replacement for Toto. Think he is better at centre back though, reckon a few town fans remember him from right back which was not his best position, and I hope we are not signing him to play there.

Yep, please don't tar us with The Fishy brush. I think I read someone on there saying that only Portsmouth are a bigger club than ourselves in this division. I do, however, agree with the sentiment that we shouldn't be losing our best players to the likes of Hartlepool and Cambridge (if there is any truth in the Amond rumour that is).

Really? You do know you are our feeder club for rejects so it's only right we take your half decent players.

Boyce was so bad Mark Cooper binned him after one game of a loan. Proper Branston special

Only time will tell i suppose, but last season when we signed Jon Nolan in January the fans of his ex clubs all said he would be a terrible signing, disrupt the dressing room etc, then he was our best player in virtually every game he played for 5 months earning himself a crack at League 1, one mans trash is another mans treasure i guess.

Amond to Hartlepool is almost confirmed.

I was ready to let the Toto signing go but you can fuck off right now.

Jesus fucking christ, this is getting ridiculous now. Expected him to go after the past few weeks, but to Hartlepool again?!

Massive amount of work needs doing on the recruitment side. When was the last time a team came up in such a threadbare state?

Really? You do know you are our feeder club for rejects so it's only right we take your half decent players.
When we were in the division below you, perhaps. When we were in the same division, I seem to remember one of our defensive cast offs walking straight into your first team?

Grimsby are going to have a tough season if they can't offer a more attractive deal than Hartlepool

Maybe there is something about the town of Grimsby that isn't very appealing to them, starting with the name!

Must say I'm say surprised Grimsby are losing Amond to Hartlepool, what's the budget like at Grimsby? I thought they'd be more than well equipped to compete at this level but maybe I'm mislead. Either way it's disappointing for them to be losing players to Hartlepool, who despite being a well respected club themselves are a divisional rival with not exactly a huge budget themselves.

We don't know what the budget for this season is yet. Last season, after the £110,000 or so raised by the fans, I think we were around the million mark? However, I can't really remember and can't find any evidence of that either. Maybe one of the other Town fans can confirm?

If your players are leaving you for Hartlepool, who over the past few seasons have proven themselves to be capable of little more than a mid-table finish at best, then I suppose Grimsby fans should be really quite worried about what the vision is that they're selling to their players

The one player more than any i thought would be loyal after how all the fans idolise him was Podge, and if it turns out to be a money based decision then it also shows that Toto was talking out of his arse using fan abuse as a smoke screen for his move.
Fuck em all anyway, Hurst will buy quality replacements and we will be just fine.

Mate he's going to Hartlepool. Not exactly a money club.

But for Podge to turn us down to go there they must be offering more than us, which was my point about Toto's excuse for leaving because of the fans being a load of crap.
Also someone on twitter saying they are owned by a Dubai based company chucking big money at it, but how true that is i don't know as everything on twitter should be taken with a pinch of salt!

Blackpool signed Colin Daniel.... Not great, id have him for backup and nothing more unless you're in the conference.

Grimsby are going to struggle.
We love Colin Daniel at Wycombe after he scored THAT goal at Bristol Rovers that kept us up 2 years ago :bravo:

One thing you'll get used to on this forum Grimsby fans - whoever you sign or get linked with, they'll get roundly ridiculed by fans of their previous club. It's the rules.

To be fair though, Boyce was actually shite and one of the worst CBs I can recall us having in the last 20 years.

Anyway, Pools looting of Grimsby could be set to continue if you believe the rumours. We've signed Padraig Amond and set to be confirmed tomorrow.

I mean, if they were any good they wouldn't be ex-Notts players playing in League 2

I think you'd all be surprised at the outlook the club has now after 6/7 years of hell.

We have seemingly good owners and an ambitious manager. The potential is there for the club to get back to L1 and get established again. And I don't think our budget is that low. We get respectable enough crowds despite the last few damaging years and we're ran sensibly. I think all that is behind us now and I'd expect us to finish higher than last season.

We'll not be over-extending ourselves getting Amond. I'm sure he'd be on more at us but probably not much more. Maybe the fact is that we're a better draw than Grimsby at this moment in time.

I didn't mean that fans of former clubs weren't usually wrong, however it's still Law 72 iiv of the rulebook - if they played for you before they are shite.

Similar to Law 89 iii - if he's a summer signing comment that he looks useful on paper.

Similarly to Law 1 of the Conference law book of quotes by new signings for former Football League clubs - "I've signed for a massive club for this level."

Don't forget the "I'm here to get this club back in the Footbll League, where it belongs" quote, and if signing for Eastleigh the "I've been sold a vision" quote.

To be honest it's not like we're carrying much momentum. We finished absolutely miles off the top and we got promoted by beating a side who simply didn't turn up. We're back in this league but we're still in the arse end of nowhere and there are simply better options than us. Hartlepool will finish above us while we'll be looking to just settle in so it's no surprise at all to see players move onto new challenges.
