Hmm, could be a possibility although we wouldn't be able to reject an approach from Cambridge as Arbury suggested had happened. He's out of contract, and although we would be due a compensation fee (which will be next to nothing seeing as he has never played for us), Cambridge are free to talk to the player and discuss terms without our permission.

I thought tbe 2 clubs first sort to agree compensation, and if the terms couldn't be agreed by the clubs it goes to that FA board?

I could be making that up though!

Our signings thus far have been decent, and if we get in 5 or 6 more good signings I'll be quite optimistic ahead of the season.

On the whole though, there has been some good signings in League 2, such as Legge at Cambridge, Green at Mansfield, Kennedy for us, and Cuthbert at Luton.

Goes to tribunal if the two clubs can't agree a few I believe. Don't entirely know whats involved but essentially a panel (?) of people decide the figure based on whole host of things. Think we were rogered by one of these tribunals when signing Dunne from Exeter.

Not sure what the likes of York, Hartlepool and Carlisle have done to be fancied over us by the bookies.

is that like a proper one or not?
Yeah, a proper one. He turned down a new contract from us as he didn't like being moved all over the pitch and wanted to settle in his preferred position (centre back).

Been told he's had talks with you.

short, slow and shite, he'll fit right in here. I'd like to think we'd sign someone a bit better than him to partner Hollis - rather just give McKenzie a chance, he's young but looked decent whenever given a chance or not injured.

I clearly wasn't being serious.

I do think we'll have a good season, however.
As a team only relegated a season ago I can see why we're fancied more than you. With the ever-so-slight potential of some good investment they'll also have lowered the odds a bit as well.

Having said that I do think Kennedy and Joyce are pretty good signings - I tend to judge a signing by how i'd feel if another team signed him and I think both of those would have me slightly annoyed/worried, Kennedy especially. I would've laughed if someone else signed Raynes so i've very little to say about him - hopefully he's no more than backup.

If we get rid of a few of the transfer listed players we'd have room for some decent signings so I wouldn't write us off, however I wouldn't have any issues with occupying the mid-table thread for the majority of next season.

We're about to sign young West Ham defender Dan Potts apparently:

Just checked and he's a left back so makes sense, we desperately needed another option as Griffiths had fitness issues this season.

I see he was on loan at Pourtsmouth a couple of seasons ago, any thoughts Pompey fans?

The name rang a bell but I can't remember him at all, must have been in our league one season where we used 50+ players.

He's a good player. Seemed to fall into the shadow of Tubbs and Wallace last season but he's definitely one I'd have loved at the Abbey. I'm very surprised Portsmouth have allowed him to leave.

I don't think Cook would have wanted to give him anything more than a one year deal and with Oxford offering two it's a no brainer for Taylor. He's alright will win a few headers, score a few here and there but he's not the player you'll want to rely on to get you promoted.

Really don't see the Cambridge approach being for Cullen - I think if he doesn't go to L1 he will still be here next season. Angol would make sense, had a good season at BW in the Conf North. Though I'm praying you take Ross Lafayette off a (though I'd be more than surprised if we had rejected any sort of approach for him!)

We are probably the worst team in the league to be buying a striker off!!

Isn't Scott Loach the guy that was on loan at Bury this year? If so then noooooo way please. He was absolutely shocking for them , made mistakes and the fans blamed him for the losses they had in that period.

I think Cambridge are building a decent little squad, last season showed that if you are pretty solid defensively you'll be up there with a shout of a playoff place pretty much regardless of whatever rubbish you have got playing up top, so the 3 pretty decent defensive signings so far are a good start.

....and yet all of 2014/2015 strikers and "wingers" have gone (Dunk is now a fullback), leaving us with
  • Midfield - Donaldson Hughes, Morrissey
  • Strikers - Gaffney and Chiedozie (and perhaps Robbie Simpson but I doubt it)
Fingers crossed for the next group of signings that might deliver the goal threat that Kwesi provided.

I'd be slightly worried if Gash has signed up to be a starter, but as a squad player then I think it's good business. Formed a good understanding with Akinde and came on leaps and bounds in fitness levels over the summer. I think how he takes care of himself over the summer will indicate just exactly where's at now with his career progression.

Whilst the Cambridge signings so far look decent on paper, I'd be worried about the lack of pace at the back.

Worked okay for us last season (for the most part anyway)...

Yep. Kicked it against our own player for a goal and then came out for a cross and at the last minute pulled out for some weird reason... Just two of the mistakes he made while he was here.

Scott Bennett signed for Notts County?? Guy Branston as their head of player recruitment?? Get your money on them being relegated.

We've signed (or re-signed as he played for us back in 04/05) Tom Champion, who was released by Cambridge Utd. He looked good for the Us against Manchester Utd in the FA Cup. How did he play the rest of the time Us fans?
