It's fine Andy, we've got 4 keepers
Yep 4 keepers 3 with no experience the other is meant be ok but is 27 and only played

To be fair though Slinn is a youth so won't be ready and assume Boot will be loaned out as he was way off being ready when called upon last season.[/QUOTE]
Boot only got given 1 game at home to bury and he looked nervous. Just cos your nervous doesn't mean you lack ability. I think he should have been given more of a chance as why keep him if it looks like he's not rated or in the managers plans.
Fair few more signings to be made and plenty of experience with Eagles, Bikey and Taylor in discussion.

Pope, Pugh are experienced too so a few younger players won't hurt.

Be interesting to see how Dan Turner does, looked promising in a poor side last year and at a weaker level could do well for us if given the chance. Could be a massive hit or not really progress.

We've sorted the keepers this week which is a start and think Montano will be a big hit especially on our wide pitch.

Need either Bikey to sign or get an experienced centre half in, assuming we don't sell Nathan Smith we will have one of the best centre halves in the league if not the best but experience alongside will be massive for us.

Think we will still need 7-8 signings yet to complete us and hopefully hear back from the out of contracts as to their intentions soon. Eagles is on holiday with John Terry training in Portugal i see so have to see when he gets back I guess.

I feel better after the signings this week that things are starting to progress. Apparently waiting until pre season starts to find out if the Callum Guy and Tyler Walker loans can be completed. Them two would be massive if we can get them secured.
I'm desperate for both bikey and eagles to sign hope nobody else out bids us.

We're aiming for a squad of 22 according to Cowley tonight.

As it stands, we'll have 14 in for pre-season training on Monday so that means news on three players before then either new signings or contract renewals.
22? Sounds a bit risky unless you've got a solid crop of youngsters or a lot of versatile players.

Morecambe have signed Adam Campbell. He's okay, we've all seen the type - hard worker, bit of skill and pace but doesn't back it up with anything like enough goals or assists.

Is that your way of saying he's proper shite?

because he's proper shite

Another FL club are interested in our keeper Ryan Boot. Made one appearance and been loaned to non league but young and has potential despite a shakey debut.

Worth selling with a sell on clause IMO.

So Nathan Jones has confirmed that we're in the market for a second goalkeeper, right back, attacking midfielder and striker to complete our business this summer. Presumably that's not just to replace McGeehan, but in addition.

He's confirmed that probably at least 1 deal will be done this week, if not 2.

Jones also insists the Cameron transfer is not a done deal, but I'd be surprised if he's still here in a couple of weeks.

You lot still trying to sign James Collins? Gone a bit quiet over the past week, really hope he comes to cov.

Guess we would need a other attacking mid if McGeehan is off, but are we really going to rely on a 33 year old to carry our wealth of powder puff midfielders water this season? Seems fool hardy to me.

Really want us looking at another decent holding midfield type player, over a striker if that's what it takes to get one. That's what we missed last season.

Still don't really get looking to splash 200k plus on Collins when the midfield is what was the issue.

Well it would be progress on last season when we relied on Olly Lee to do it at least :bg:

Hopefully by "attacking" mid he means someone capable of doing the box-to-box role rather than an out-and-out midget #10 type, but then Jones does seem to love collecting those sooo...

Another of Jones's comments today was interesting - he basically said that anyone who isn't part of the "squad of 20" (based on last year, he doesn't include keepers in statements like that, so probably means 22, i.e. two for each position) will not be allowed to train with the main group. The comment was directed at the three transfer listed players (basically saying "find yourselves a club or train by yourselves for the season"), but does it extend to the youngsters on the verge of a breakthrough? Presumably Musonda and Famewo at least are at the point where they need to be training with the seniors to progress, but they would be fifth and sixth choice centre backs so not part of the 22. Loan deals for both, or just a throwaway comment from Jones trying to put pressure on the senior players he wants shot of?

Yeah i did mean box to box rather than a holding midfield type player actually. I dont really much fancy another season of Cook or Lee trying to play those roles, Pelly is far to inconsistent to be relied upon, D'Ath seems alright but overall I think we could get better, and get better bang for the buck in terms of improving an area of the team that needs it by investing the 200k we have burning a hole in our pockets there rather than up front!

We have signed Peter Vincenti from Rochdale.
We loved Vicente at Rochdale. Very popular player.
Was injured last season so in and out of squad.
Tall and puts himself about, looks a bit like Peter Crouch!
Not nippy, but get a high cross in and he will out muscle a defender and calmly finish.
Knows where the net is.

Why are Notts County so desperate to get Liam Noble back?

Vincenti was the worst player I've ever seen play for us. He went on to do alright with Rochdale though. Must be David Holdsworth's management, We had Steve Cook at the same time who looked awful and he's now a regular in Bournemouths defence.

We've signed Connor Smith after his release from Plymouth.

Good, solid signing for you. 31 apps for us last year with 2-3 months off injured. Of all the players we released he was probably the only one I'd have been on the fence about keeping-would have been a fringe squad player in L1 though. Battles hard in the middle and a good league 2 player.

Cods after Nicky Maynard, although I don't think they're too hopeful on that one.

I agree, he was the one not to get a contract I thought might. No offense, but I thought he would go for a team generally considered to be promotion seeking. He is a good player and will give you strength in midfield. You have definately upgraded on whomever you had before. Started a bit slow, got into his stride and was MOM when he got injured, and then struggled a bit to get match time because we had upgraded in January. He was a reasonably good player in a good team, suspect he will be a good player or better for you. Wish him well.

We released him. Notts County released him. Maybe he was quality in the vanarama because that's his level?

To be fair, we released him because he kept getting sent off, not because he wasn't good enough. When he was available he was a good midfielder for this level, albeit not one that I'm sure is worth the kind of fee that FGR want.

In fact, Mark Cooper released him then resigned, went to Forest Green and signed him a fortnight later...

Players who have been crap at Carlisle, have generally been good at Notts.

Mike Edwards is a legend. Still cook, fitness coach and part time square peg for round holes.

Noble was inconsistent as many lower league footballers can be. He was generally our best player but had a habit of getting sent off or disappearing. Works best in a 451 which I think Nolan may well look to play quite often this year

I thought he had a lot missing from his game. Sure he could crack a shot but his positional play as a CM was hopeless, he would have been a nightmare for the poor midfielder having to play alongside him. And as you say his disciplinary record was embarrassing

Yeah, I agree with that, but he's good enough on the ball to justify trying to fit him in.

The reason that we're so willing to spend a big chunk of our budget, initially on Jorge Grant and now Noble, is that we've got plenty of solid, disciplined midfielders who can keep things ticking over but no one who is going to provide any goals or assists, particularly with Michael O'Connor out injured for probably the entire season.
