Probably the same person who did the Lee Angol write-up on your site about his time with us. :bg:

It annoys me that write ups are always so exaggerated, just state facts and let them show what they can do on the pitch.

I do hate the "we beat several premiership teams to him"

Matt Green signs a two-year deal.

Good deal.

And I disagree that Green lost his pace. He lost his ruthlessness in front of goal but not his pace.

Ollie Palmer is shite and Green will get between 15-19 to be precise.

Palmer's League Two goal scoring record hardly inspires confidence. However, just to put things into perspective, he did join us four years ago when he was 20-21. If he failed to replicate the goalscoring form he showed at Havant and Waterlooville there was always the chance that he might become the boo boy. On the back of a season in the Conference South he wasn't ready for League Two football.

Fast forward a few years. Since he played for Mansfield, Wikipedia says he got 12 in 65 for Leyton Orient and then 3 in 17 for Luton. That Leyton Orient record is bad but it isn't that bad. As for that Luton record I think I am right in saying he featured mainly from the bench.

At 25 he may have matured mentally. With the coaching of the Cowleys, he might improve technically and tactically. Perhaps he could one day be a good League Two forward. He has the physical attributes. I certainly wouldn't write him off forever.

We've signed James Dunne on a free. Any use Cambridge fans?

Good combative defensive midfielder. I would have kept him but it would seem Derry thought he could get better.

He can't play all that much but gets stuck in and does the ugly stuff.

Just wanted to echo what JD said really. I really rated him and personally think it's another one where he has been really harshly treated by Jones. Didn't get many chances here at all but usually made an impact when he did including with a few goals.

How we have let him go but kept Cook I'll never know, the quote by Jones saying he "couldn't see him impacting the team" I find particularly laughable with that fact in mind!

Genuinely hope he does well for you.
Pretty excited by this signing, 3 really good additions so far, all getting praise from fans of their previous clubs. Not used to this.

Reports of a £600k offer for Akinde from Blackburn Rovers. No idea how genuine this is.

Yeah, almost entirely sub cameos for us. He only actually played 653 minutes of football for us, which by my reckoning is a goal every 218 minutes or so which is pretty good going. He also got 6 assists for us in that time apparently. He's not great by any means and you wouldn't want him as your main man, but he's a solid squad player for most clubs at this level I think.

Good engine too, keeps running and running. Agree with Svh, I'd have kept him too though we've signed two in his position this summer so not surprised he's gone.

I can only echo what Laker and SVH have said on Dunne. Every side needs someone like him, someone who isn't a flair player but will work his socks off in every game. I would've kept him too, and truth be told I don't think I know any U's fan who wanted him gone.

Thanks Laker, SVH and Vanni. This is very pleasing to read. We were soft as shite last year and have needed some experience at the back and some steel in the middle and we have got both in Robertson and Dunne. We still need about 11 players but the manager appears to be going about things the right way.

Agree. Jake Gray is a far better prospect than Cook. A strange one but you never what goes on behind the scenes.

So in true ECFC tinpot style, the club says we're going to announce two signings at 5pm...Sure enough Luke Croll is announced but no-one else, although the second player (99.9% certainl its Dean Moxey) is expected to sign very soon.

On Croll, he's purely backup and didn't impress much last season. However, I guess he's still young so will hopefully improve....

Assuming we do announce Moxey (he's been clearly photographed training today), then we have signed arguably the best left back in the league. He's a fans favourite and a local boy with bags of Championship experience with Palace and Derby, plus he played in the Prem 20-30 times too.

He's still only 31 so plenty to offer...

We now really need to add a RB and add to the midfield plus replace Joel Grant and we look pretty good. Although it's only a matter of time before we lose Watkins and Wheeler which will be a huge challenge to overcome.

Always like James Dunne. He's someone we've probably never replaced as he's a proper hard bastard to have in the middle. Got a good signing there....

Cheers Cambridge fans for the Dunne reviews. I'm delighted we've started to adressed our soft midfield issue relatively early on.

Just what we needed.

I'm a bit confused about where he plays. Listed as a midfielder but played RB at Exeter. He won't be ahead of our present RB, James Justin who is probably our biggest and most promosing talent. I suspect he was bought to give us options in defence and midfield. Seems like he can hit the ball from distance judging by the stunner he scored for Exeter in the play off semi. Still need a replacement for McGeehan unless Pelle Rudduck is given that role. Not so sure he has the same instinct for goal as McGeehan though.
That has been Stacey's problem here. Very much a jack of all trades, master of none. He can play almost anywhere on the pitch (probably best suited for RM) but has yet to excel at any. Would play in a whole range of positions for our youth teams, and was one of the better ones. Good technically, good tactically, perhaps needs more strength for regular first team football.

Definitely has potential, and i'm surprised we sold him. Can only imagine there are some decent clauses in there.

Palmer is a decent impact sub, but as a starter he blew cold more than hot.

Works hard, but has little technical ability and doesn't posses the killer instinct in front of goal to get more than 10 goals in a season.

He did ok for us overall, but he will never go higher than League Two.

Turgott was really bad for us. Scored one screamer of a goal v yous and that was it really. His movement and intelligence really killed his game. Only saw him the once for Bromley last season v Sutton and he looked exactly the same as the Turgott I remember. He had that purple patch at the end of 2016, hope that was a glimpse of what he can do, but all accounts seems to be a good kid.
Have to agree with that.

I thought he had some promise as he was very quick. But comparing him to what Gavin Massey offered us as a right winger last season - The gap in quality was huge.

Daily Mail reporting that we're on the verge of signing Blair Turgott from Bromley. Seems to have had a half decent season last year just have to make sure you don't leave your credit card unattended when he's around.

With McAnuff in discussions with the club and Pett on the transfer list I guess this signing would mean one of them is off.

Do you think another league club would pay a fee for him? Curious as I believe we still have a sell-on clause.

Just like to say that I agree with the comments above about Jake Gray. I'd have kept him over a few of Jones'favourites.

re Ollie Palmer, just to add, don't expect him to win any headers. One of the players who gets shorter when he jumps. Much better with the ball at his feet.

Rhead wins virtually everything in the air so that's fine.

So you just need this Croll guy to improve, a former PL LB to sign, a new RB, the bulk of the midfield, a new attacker (possibly two if Watkins goes), and Wheeler to stay and then you're good to go?

The Green-Rhead dream team back together hey?

I'll enjoy looking forward to seeing that next season - apart from when they play against us. If they can rekindle the old magic (and there's no reason why they shouldn't) then Greenie (club ledge) could rack up a hat full. Personally I think that the guy is still better than any of the strikers on our books. Still as fit as anyone in the division, still got the pace; but lacked that clinical edge last season. No question that his confidence had gone but with his old partner Desperate Dan alongside him again, Imps fans could be in for a treat.

Olly Palmer? Er,...well, umm, he was a part-time stripper.
