Crewe Alex have signed Eddie Nolan after he left Blackpool. Looks to be a depth signing that can play all across the back 4. Hopefully he can challenge Perry Ng for the RB spot. Weird career path Nolan's been on. Played a bunch of times in the higher levels for Preston, Sheff Wed and Scunthorpe, but the last couple of seasons aren't great. Left 6 months into a 1 year deal at a terrible York team and then barely played for Blackpool last season. Interesting to see how he gets on.

We're going to be laughed out of this forum when people see who we're signing :ffs:
Tom Parkes? Only just seen that mentioned on our forum, don't really know much about him. Not very promising if we're signing rejects from Conference clubs though.

Crewe Chronicle reckon we're set to sign Brad Walker from Hartlepool later on today. Fee has been agreed with a generous sell on clause and he'll be the midfielder we're desperately after and a huge upgrade on sicknote Bingham that's for sure.

We're making some decent signings and Eddie Nolan is a low risk punt so I don't mind him being signed for depth but we still need another centre half and we need to look at a pacey winger to complement our front-line. Could also see another fullback coming in on loan potentially as well to make sure we have 2 LBs and 2 RBs. What's less likely though is the return of Callum Cooke, but it'd be amazing if we could pull that one off that's for sure!

Murmurs of a certain Jose Semedo being linked with a move down the A61 from the Owls to our lot!

If we can pull that one off then that's a fantastic signing for this level! It'll complete a spine of Evatt, Semedo, O'Grady... Now I like the sound of that!!

Have to view it a differently when it comes to Orient though. Parkes is an excellent league 2 centre back with a great attitude. Lot of experience for his age too, you'll love him.

We've also agreed terms with a centre back but his club won't sanction it until they get a replacement. Leigh Curtis has been bigging up Omar Beckles from Accrington and he's got form for doing that with players who we then go on to sign.

Beckles would be a very good singing. Would we have to pay a fee for him?

Latest rumour down our way is LB Chris Hussey from Sheffield United. Few clubs in for him though.

Where are Chesterfield getting all this money from? O'Grady won't come cheap. 1p in the £ again I guess...
Look at our squad ffs, average age is about 14. We're gambling massively that 3/4 experienced players will someone gel together a ridiculously young and in experienced side. Our wage bill has been cut again and probably isn't in the top 8 n this league anymore.

You need depth not just an average starting 11... you're going to find it tough
We've got 22 players on the books so no danger of no depth of that. What concerns me is the lack of experience and the gamble on signing non league players. Paid off with Clucas and few others previously but if it doesn't we are in trouble..

Apparently we might be signing someone tomorrow, no idea who.

Luton have made some strong signings, I'd have them over Mansfield.

I think they should be the bookies fav to be fair.

We've signed Dan Jones - looks a decent one if we can keep him fit. With Dickinson still on the books, left back is probably a position where we can afford a bit of a calculated risk.

Forest Green want £100k up front for Noble, we're offering it in instalments and add ons. If it's got to the stage of haggling over the structure of the deal, I reckon that's likely to happen.

We've also agreed terms with a centre back but his club won't sanction it until they get a replacement. Leigh Curtis has been bigging up Omar Beckles from Accrington and he's got form for doing that with players who we then go on to sign.

Scorer of one of the best own goals ever for us at their place near the end of last season. YouTube it, its got everything!

We've signed central defender Adam El-Abd on a 2 year deal after being released by Shrewsbury, hope he's not a replacement for Pierre who still hasn't signed an improved contract. We've also taken our ex striker/winger Nathan Tyson on trial,we get rid of Thompson who was 36 and want to replace him with a 35 year old,we are now officially a strkikers retirement home with Paul Hayes who is 35 and The Beast who at least can still score goals aged 34.

Best of luck to ya Brad but you might be in for a shock if you plan to use him as a centre mid, he's been awful for us there, far too slow and just a big stiff body who does nowt. He's gone from being this incredible 17 year old FL scholar of the year to someone more interested in getting pissed on a weekend down the town.

The change of clubs might do him the world of good and give him the wake up call he needs.

I feel that a move away from his comfort zone of the North East will do him the world of good. Also worth noting that Dave Artell has got the best already out of a bunch of underachievers who were more arsed about getting wasted than playing football to the best of their ability (George Ray is the prime example of this!) and I'm pretty sure he could do the same with Brad Walker if Ray has come on leaps and bounds since January to the point where he's likely to be named our captain for this season!

I feel that Artell will probably play him as a sitting ball winning midfielder because our other starting midfielder, James Jones, is more of a box-to-box midfielder and he hasn't been able to play his natural role since Danny Hollands got injured in February. He could also be used as cover at CB as well given our reasonable depth at CM if he signs so that'd mean we'd only need one more CB on that part. I think he could be a very good signing for us because there's obviously something there that Artell sees in him after all...

One-year deal according to the BBC?

Just checked The Wycombe website and it is 2 years so it's The BBC that got it wrong not our local rag.

It looks like we're about to announce the signing of James Bailey. Thoughts Crewe fans?

A bit from Curle's interview yesterday..
"We won't be able to compete with people buying players for a quarter of a million quid, like Luton - we haven't got that sort of finances.

"We can't go out and sign 14 players and put them all on top League Two money like a Mansfield. We can't offer extortionate signing-on fees to centre-forwards like a Lincoln have done, and paying League One wages."

Defender, probably Parkes, close to signing and maybe a striker to arrive later this week.

How we ever conned Derby into paying us £400,000 for him in 2010 I'll never know. Was a very average midfielder for us in a very mediocre time.

Carlisle fans certainly didn't rate him too highly either, and neither did Barnsley fans before that...

Whole quote there reeks of Steve Davis, Curle will be gone in months if he keeps spouting shite like that.

Interestingly though speaking of Davis, he said how Carlisle "blew us out of the water" for Jamie Devitt last year. Could it be that Curle gambled on promotion last year and it didn't pay off meaning he's got to wait a year to offload all the players he's got on generous contracts right now?

Does he know that he's Carlisle's manager, not anyone elses?

Any more speculation on Pierre?

I'm guessing he's talking about Green rather than Palmer? If be disappointed if we gave Palmer a big signing-on fee or League One wages.

Besides which, Cowley is incredibly strict with the wage structure so i couldnt see us paying one player way more than the rest of the squad.

As others have said, the protestations of a poor manager who'd scared about his job, trying hard to deflect attention away from his own inadequacies. We had a few like this in the past; Simpson, Holdsworth. Always moaning about money and what other teams had. They didn't last long.

I'm sure a few players in our team will be on very decent wages for this level such as Nicky Adams and Mike Jones. Also in that interview, our CEO said our budget is 'broadly the same as last season'. It probably is lower, but I don't think there's too many he'd want to get rid of.

On Lincoln, surely it was Matt Green as we were likely interested too.

And James Bailey was awful bar a couple average games.
