Evans has said we will be bringing in a centre midfielder in Jan. Really hope he gets this one right. Digby will probably go out, I'd prefer to get rid of Butcher but can' see it. Thomas will be go out again too.

Butcher has been another disaster of Evans. It's beginning to get tiresome, and fast.

Though Danny Rose is one of the better forwards down here, SE still hasn't provided a better forward than him, or for Green - which has taken a lot of us by surprise.

This window is massively important. Though a lot of us fans haven't necessarily had the same thoughts and have been relatively cautious, anything than promotion with the budget he's had would be an abject failure. No ifs, not buts.

Ex Halifax, Grimsby and Barnsley forward Shaun Tuton played for our reserves today, Aspin had him at Halifax so thats the link there.

We are hopefuly of extending Ben Whitfield's loan which is crucial in January and extending the contract of Mad Gavin Gunning who has excelled for us in a left back position (not his natural) whilst gaining cult hero status with the fans.

Posh Chairman has confirmed rumours around these parts that we're in for Ricky Miller in January. On one hand, you'd not turn down a player who scored 40+ goals in the league below last season, but on the other hand he's apparently a bit of a knob (and also has a court date hanging over him until April time). Sounds like it'd not be a loan and on that basis, I'd be a bit reluctant because they'll be after a silly figure I imagine.

Ex-Imp Lee Frecklington also being strongly linked. He's out of contract in the summer at Rotherham and recently moved back to Lincoln with his family to settle down here again after a bit of time away through football. Not sure Rotherham will want to lose their Captain midway through the season, though.

Miller looked quite far off the level required for League 2 when he was here, couldn't dislodge Mark Cullen from the team who is a bang average middle of the road League 2 forward.

Then again he must have improved since as he didn't look like a player you'd expect to score that many at the level below either. Clearly benefited from being the main man in a kind of CRonaldo way (by that I mean whenever I saw him for Dover he would literally just shoot every time he had the ball regardless of position on the pitch and none of his teammates dared to call him out for being selfish).

Unfortunately even if his on-pitch performances have developed, it seems his off-pitch personality hasn't and he's still a bit of a dick. Wonder if it is a coincidence that his two big shenanigans have come after relatively big moves up the leagues - perhaps the type to think he's made it and can stop trying now.

Yep, exactly that. He shot from all over the place and the standard of GK's is hardly great so more often than not, he'd find the net.

Agree on his off the pitch antics. 8 game ban at the beginning of the season for biting a player, then this court date for whatever he's done and then prior to that a couple(?) of incidents at your place.

Adam Yates has been told he wont have his contract renewed, had the horrific facial injury a few weeks back and a sad end to 8 years at the club... similar end to Doug Loft when he was brutally attacked by the cowardly Dan Jones.

Seems insensitive timing but I hope he gets fixed up when fit, a loyal servant and part of the 2012/13 promotion side.

Some may see it that way but bottom line is this is a business not a charity and especially for clubs at our level tough decisions like these need to be made. Yates would still have his medical bills covered by the club in any case as Vale will be obligated to do that. I daresay he will get fixed up somewhere like Macclesfield easily enough.

But the Imps boss Cowley said: “We didn’t enquire about him personally, we just made a phone call about what players could be available from Peterborough. It was pretty standard stuff. You have to keep your ear to the ground and be aware of what is available, so when the January window does come you’re able to act accordingly.

“It’s normal for clubs, when they’re looking to move a player on, to create an interest. We understand that but there’s been nothing more than us having a conversation with Peterborough about players who may or may not be available.”

Tuton wasn't with us for long. Looked great first game away to Notts county (although missed a sitter). Hard working, quick, put himself about. That was it though. After that he was pretty much dog dirt every game. Paul Hurst would have the ability to turn Lionel Messi into a 3 goals a season striker though so possibly still a player in there somewhere.

As for mad gav, I had to do a double take on how you had described him. I assumed you had used a different 4 letter word beginning with c!!:ffs:

We love the weirdness! Popey was saying at Exeter ready to come out second half both teams were silent focusing in the tunnel and Gav just blurts out "alrighty then"

Guys nuts... 4-1 down at Leeds on a booking and there lad is doing all these tricks around him... you just knew what was going to happen mind! Boom! Off he goes!

Huge part of the team off the field during the tougher times and been crucial in our revival as our back four are all so young he has been the experience there at left back. Hope he stays in January when his deal is up.

Whitfield is crucial though.

'Mad Gav' was such a liability for us that we resorted to McKeown knocking him out by punching him in the head against Wycombe to stop him causing any more damage.

Bizarrely though the worst thing he ever did in a Grimsby Town shirt didn't actually happen on a football pitch:

The incident when Crewe beat you last year where he body checked the Crewe attacker literally sending him flying like a rag doll endeared him to Vale fans from the start. He has been fairly steady, possibly better for us as in a left back position rather than centre half?

We've signed Josh Barrett from Reading on loan from Jan 1 till end of season.
Know nothing about him but he's an attacking midfielder who has scored 8 times in 11 games this season.
To replace Andreu who is one of our players out for the season with ACL's

Adam Yates contrary to Sky reports has signed a new deal until the end of the season giving him a wage whilst he recovers from his horrific injury.

Where's that come from?

Not that I disagree. I think it's been obvious for a few weeks that he's one of a handful at risk in January.

Justin Edinburgh said in his post match interview yesterday, that we are quite far down the line with regards to signing Josh Coulson from Cambridge on a pernament basis. Great signing for us, he was badly missed when he was injured for two months.

Article on Gary's blog but it does make sense to me as well but by all accounts he did well when came on yesterday.

As in our top scorer who starts every game and we have hardly have strikers start with?
Be amazed if that happened, long way from where he lives too.
You must have missed the joke. The comment is in reference to Carlisle fan hellogregory claiming Matt Green was off to Carlisle before the 16-17 season and that it was a done deal, but then apparently fell through.

Busy being a non league fan then so yes missed all that.
On a slightly more serious note Luton are keen on getting our midfielder Alex Woodyard.
Any Luton fans heard anything?

I cant imagine we need another mid unless we're losing one to higher up the food chain.

Yeah, as I espoused on our match thread, the balance of the midfield is really good at the moment with both Lee and Berry playing well and both suiting the system. Woodyard might be a good player but I’m not sure he’d shift those 2 in front of him, from what I’ve seen of him he’s more a Berry type than a Lee type and he certainly won’t get ahead of Berry I’d wager. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s one we’ve identified if we were to lose someone though.

If we get anything then I would think we would be looking at centre half which is I think probably our only position where we haven’t invested in in a while.
