The Crewe Twitter account tried to get their fans excited with news of a possible signing when it was actually news of a player leaving.

Proper cringing at it.

We're apparently due to sign Brentford left-back Ilias Chadzitheodoridis (Dave to his mates) on loan until the end of the season.

Know nothing of him, but we desperately need a left-back so it makes sense.

It’s makes our usual lack of PR look superb! I’d be furious if I was a fan after that. Poor taste from their social media guys there.

Haven't seen him at Brentford, but he looked quite vulnerable defensively when I saw him play in the Arsenal youth teams.

You had better get whoever prints the names on the back of your shirts to start now, if you sign him tomorrow he might miss the next couple of games before there is one ready for him to wear!

Is this Khan an out and out winger or can he play in the middle? I’m pretty sure we are in for a midfielder who can add some goals to our team so it would be nice if we were in for him. Someone mentioned on our forum it was a L2 side who has met his release clause.

Cheers, but there is no need. Click on the replies to their various tweets throughout the day and you'll see the reaction is almost universally negative, as it should be.

The four clubs interested are Us,Wigan,Bradford City & Luton. Not sure the two that have bid but I would think he would go to Wigan or Bradford. Maybe us if he wants to stay locally.

I've seen us linked but I'm inclined to think it's lazy journalism. We don't play with wingers so why would we sign one, even if he is good? We have on occasion signed wingers with the aim of converting them into central forwards (that was the stated goal with Harry Cornick) but Jones has stated clearly already this window that we aren't in for another forward option as we can barely keep the four we have happy with game time as it is.

We seem to get linked with wingers every window even though we haven't actually used them for 2.5 seasons now and have a squad built entirely around playing a narrow diamond with occasional switch to an out-and-out 4-3-3. Unless Khan can play central midfield I think our "interest" is very likely bullshit.

Hasn't played in the middle for us, might do well as a number 10 if given the freedom to do what he wants, but I can't see as a conventional CM, he doesn't track back well enough. I'd be annoyed if he does leave for another league 2 team, given how he's banged on about playing at a higher level. Someone on the Bradford forum seemed pretty confident it was them.

That was my gut feeling as well, I think someone's thrown Luton in there because Jones and Way are pals.

Aston Villa to sign Jack Marriott for £6m. A 10% profit sell on clause (if we have one) would equate to an extra £550k coming our way. Making the total value of the transfer £1m.

I have a vague memory of West Side Vinny on Outlaws claiming it was more like 20% which would be nice if I haven't imagined it.

Funny old game is football, this time last season Marriott could barely get a game here. Funny how sometimes a move can completely transform a player (Hylton to us being another example, his goals to games ratio is like 2-3x better than at any other club in his career since he's been here).

Considering how awful some of our social media stuff has been over the years (it has been a bit better recently), I feel dead sorry for you. I just don’t understand who had the bright idea to make it sound like you were signing somebody then it turns out you’re selling.

Someone made the joke on Twitter:

Ilias hacks down a Mansfield player.
Ref: "Right that's a yellow, what's your name son?"
"Chatzitheodoridis ref"
Ref: "On you way lad, don't do it again"

So Crewe's official twitter was actually celebrating selling a player to Peterborough? Wtf, they aren't even a bigger club. Bizarre.

Didn't Leeds do that the other year? Told everyone to stay up and it was actually news of selling two players?

If that’s the case, wow. That is incredibly good business on our part. We actually might make a profit this year.

People can say we’re buying the league, but in reality we’re making huge gains in the transfer market this year.

I've been told that Luton are favourites to sign him. He's just got the League 2 goal of the month award, which is nice.

Big loss for Yeovil if he goes as he's been their only stand out player consistently during the 4 games we've played.

He's a great player for us but I think everyone expected this to happen sooner rather than later. We need to make sure we fill the hole he leaves as we didn't last year when Ryan Hedges went to Barnsley and it made a huge difference.

Rumoured that we have also bid to trigger the release but I would say we are bottom of the pile based on that list of clubs!

Apparently we're due to announce a signing this afternoon, text from club. Be delighted if it turns out to be Khan but expect he'll go higher.

Loaned a couple of kids from Villa and Newcastle. Harry McKirdy, who doesn't look a day over 8, and Daniel Barlaser.

Always hit and miss these loan signings. Both seem too old to be anything special, in the Gylfi Sigurdsson way, but hopefully more Callum Cooke than Cedric Baseya.

We've apparently got a sell on clause with Ethan Pinnock, so given how he's playing for Barnsley (motm v Wolves last week) and Barnsley's new billionaire owners would be surprised if they sold him for anything less then £30m. I've heard from a reliable sauce down the pub that our sell on clause might be as high as 50%.

Making the total value of the transfer £15.5m. Good business.

Wycome have signed 21 year old forward Randell Williams on loan from Watford until the end of the season,an odd one imo as we have Craig Mackail-Smith,Nick Freeman,Nathan Tyson,Paris Cowan-Hall and The Beast plus Scott Kashket is nearing match fitness after an injury from the end of last season,i just hope Williams can play in midfield as that's where we're short of fit players.

We've signed Tahvon Campbell on loan from West Brom. Pacy winger apparently. Had loan spells at Yeovil and Notts County last season. Been at Solihull this season. Hardly an overwhelming cv, but you never know.

Luke James has gone on loan to Barrow for the rest of the season.

Campbell was like the median average of every young lower league winger who is very fast but can’t control the ball that you’ve ever seen.
