Andrew Fox signs for The Mariners.

He actually played a pre-season game for us last year but Russell Slade didn't fancy him, so going by Slade's judgement of players, he should be a great signing.

He went over to Sweden and played left-back for new Town manager Michael Jolley but was now a free agent.

We’ve signed 28 year old defender Ryan Mcgivern until the end of the season. Much needed.

Notice he has played for Vale before, what kind of player is he Vale fans?

erm..... when we signed him we was told he was really poor by Walsall and Bristol City fans... they were not that far wrong although he was steady enough but that was in League One. He has zero pace which is a problem. He split opinion a bit but at this level I would of thought he will be ok.

Far better as a left back than a centre half. Can put a decent cross over.
Purkiss, Robertson, Rico and now McGivern what's occuring :bl:

Robertson is utter knickers. Purkiss is average, RICO is shit hot and MCGivern is just available and will bolster numbers.

I liked Robbo personally, scored a few goals with his head too for us...

Purkiss was decent in L1 until mid way through last year when he just went off the boil massively... mind you wasn’t the only one!

Rico was a goal machine, think he was the first to get 20 goals plus in three consecutive seasons for us. Don’t know why we didn’t try and coax him back In January rather than loan some kid from Wolves and a signing from wherever Dior Angus is from... well I do actually Smurf!

According to our local radio station Gary McSheffrey is due to sign for us until the end of the season. I know back in his day he was a decent player for the likes of Coventry, Birmingham and Scunny. Hoping he still has a bit left in the tank at 35 though.

McGivern confirmed.

Mixed reviews but hopefully can do a job at league 2 level for the last 10 games.

Same as most at this level mate hence in League 2. He isn't great but at left back can definitely do a job. Centre half he is pretty gash. Nothing to lose for 10 games. Lost his way a bit and keeps popping up on short term contracts since we released him.
He is okay ( ish )

Agreed, to be honest we can’t do much worse as our best 3 centre backs are out injured so a bit of solid experience has to be good, surely!

Is our Rollin still with you ?

Yeah and part of the first team now. I’ve only seen him once and seems big and strong. People who have seen him more have mixed reviews but he’s brave and makes a lot of blocks, saving tackles. He’s still learning so can’t really complain about his contribution thus far.

He's the worst keeper I've ever seen play for us. He's about 4 foot tall and I'm being serious in that I never saw him make one save for us, literally every shot on target was a goal for the 20 or so games he played for us.

He s a terrible keeper Chris. He's absolutely useless.

Playing tonight in a massive six pointer. Not gone well so far. :ffs:

Chelsea signed 16 year old George Nunn from us. 300k plus I'm guessing the usual added extras and sell on fees.

There were reports probably 6 months or so ago Spurs were willing to give us a "blank cheque" for him after he scored a hat trick vs them or something.

Can't blame us for taking the deal, if he wasn't signing his scholarship forms, we'd had to cash in. But it's another blow for the academy. We are struggling to get kids to even sign their 2 year scholarships now. Not to mention having to cash in on one first teamer in January for a contract hold out and potentially doing the same with 2 more come the summer. 10 years ago, this wasn't an issues, but EPPP means the likes of City, Chelsea and Liverpool are just hoovering up all the promising talent in the county and hoping by signing 100, they hit on 1 or 2.

I can't blame Nunn for taking the deal, but it really is a bit short sighted. Moving away from home to London at the age of 16, probably getting a relatively big compensation package to move down there as well. It's a lot to cope with at his age and as we've seen with Daniel Trickett-Smith, it often doesn't work out. Plus he's picked Chelsea, which is an odd choice. Once he's finished his scholarship, he'll get a professional deal and be sent out on loan for 4-5 straight years. Be very interesting to track his progress.

Why pick Chelsea over Spurs?

Hard to break through at any top club, but at least Spurs don't fill their club with hundreds of prospects from around the world with no interest in doing anything other then making a profit on them after loaning them out for a few years.

English youngsters get a chance to break through at Spurs, don't think anyone's properly made it at Chelsea since John Terry!

Needless to say it shows up what a dead horse the academy has become, although the news will probably be re-packaged as an amazing, unique, revolutionary way to run a club.

Exactly. He really should look at what the likes of Nathan Ake and Nathaniel Chalobah have had to do to develop their careers, leaving permanently after several seasons out on loan, with little prospect of making the first team. I'm not saying he'd have been better of staying with us, but his choice of clubs is strange. Still, money talks.

He’s probably not bothered about making the first team though, using Chelsea’s system as a chance to advance his career rather than looking to settle down and break through there.

That’s how Chelsea attract these kids, not by saying look at all these players breaking through here, but by saying look at all these players who have gone on and got clubs after here and established themselves in the game. Not many seem to drift out of the game having failed to make it there and they have a decent reputation of producing players, albeit not for themselves. With the way they use loans too he’ll know he will get the benefit of some decent coaching and facilities for a few years and then get some loan experience too.

Plus they have seemingly brought that lad from Exeter along nicely (Ampadu I think?).

Adam Yates has retired from football following his horrific facial injury a few months back. Great servant to the club over the past 9 years.

Goes with the best wishes.
