Don’t need a CM like that. We need a hard bastard or general engine-room man.

With regards to present day CBs, the Tanned One has said a lot are wary of putting their heads in nowadays - down to the knowledge of repetitive heading leading to brain damage. Fair point, I think. The days of the blood and thunder, slow but dependable CBs are coming to an end.

The problem is that a, supposed, ball playing CB is a disaster waiting to happen in L2.

Sheehan was excellent for us last season and is most definitely a ball playing centre half. Probably do need to pair them with a "kick it, head it" type though.

Let’s be honest. Almost all fans want their club to spend the cash whether they actually can afford it or not. Only when it all goes tits up do they complain - or doesn’t work out a la Bury.

Mansfield, for example, could buy the England squad but Flitcroft would still fuck it up.

I know we are an easy target but its worth pointing out that Northampton spent roughly the same maybe more than us and went down too.

Following on from the Winchester signing, we've now also signed striker Tahvon Campbell on a permanent deal, having had him on loan last season.

Not having a dig, but Bury are the first club that sprang to mind when thinking of one that spunked a load of cash with disastrous results. Not the first and definitely won’t be the last.

Ah, the ginger Messi. Really rated by the fans but not by any manager in charge. Hasn’t really played enough to have a proper opinion, but the odds are he is decent. Stocking up on Swindon rejects aren’t you!

If they do the job, I don't care where they're from.

Going back to Hardy, quite ironic how he was quite vocal about our early transfer dealings last summer, and how he & Nolan were much more patient than that & they would get better value for money later in the transfer window.

Fast forward 12 months...

Good stuff, especially if he's happy being an impact sub like last season, offered a good late change. Though if Doidgey leaves presume it's him and Reuben.

That’s a very good point. Maybe he was a tad jealous (seems a common theme) of that early season transfer activity at Field Mill. Maybe he now sees it as being beneficial, although Stags didn’t start the season off well at all. So not sure about that potential benefit. Although if Mr Evans and Mr Raynor hadn’t done the dirty, ultimately that approach would of led to promotion.

Last season we didn’t get many of our initial targets , and then you are more desperate looking at lower tier targets and then trying to dress it up as a good preseason on the Transfer front. If Nolan has got a few that he genuinely really wanted then that’s great news. Kevin Nolan knows a lot more about football and footballers than me , so all good in my eyes. Puts the pressure on a little Cos you’ve lost an obvious excuse (if needed).

I need O’Connor to sign to give my neck a rest

With flitcroft in charge, it's beggars belief that we're favoured over Bury, Northampton and Notts. Shows what the bookies know.

Also, with so few signings made by teams yet, it's a surprise

Disagree Adam, as you know I’m not a fan but he would have got Swindon a shot at promotion so he’s probably more likely to give Mansfield one with the extra funds avaliable.

I dont say that with confidence though!

Kane Hemmings confirmed for Notts. Permanent move. Fee undisclosed. Very happy with him and Dennis (with Kellett providing some ammunition).

Highest turnover in L2; get outbid dramatically by Notts County. Don’t like this trying to be sustainable lark, need to just go mental and have a 10m wage budget.

Didn’t happen in the end, we didn’t manage to sign a striker at all despite obviously needing one. Lesson learned, clearly!

Assuming the remaining out of contract players sign, one more defender and a couple of squad players in and that’s probably us done. Which makes a refreshing change.

The bookies rarely get bashed - Leicester aside, there's a reason they normally get it right.

We are still far from the finished article. We still need another CB, some wide midfielders and probably another striker and a RB

Flitcroft had a £2m budget last season, supplemented in January to deal with the raft of injuries. We were struggling to keep in the play off pack before he left. I wouldn’t trust him to spend a decent budget wisely.

That’s a lot of signings.

Re bookies; Cardiff, Accrington and Macclesfield?

Always exceptions - but theres a reason why gambling is one of the biggest growing industries - they make a lot of money from it

We have no cover in the wider positions - we literally have 2 wide players. Unless the youth teamers Howes and Osbourne are going to be first teamers, that leaves us with the very inconsistent Allesandra and Hawkridge.

Think that’s probably us done in terms of big signings, unless someone like Jones or Duffy doesn’t sign a new deal.

We might get another striker in, probably on loan, but depends how highly Nolan rates Remaye Campbell who scored a bucketload for the youth team last season. Same with Pierce Bird who may get promoted into the first team picture, but we definitely need another centre back if we’re going three at the back, hopefully Ben Hall back on loan.

You was one point behind Mansfield and we were one of the form teams. Anyway this is the wrong thread but even with a average start the fans will turn on him and next season will probably be a waste of time.

Signing Jones is probably the next big priority. Duffy had a good season but he makes some huge mistakes in games which has really cost us at times

You can't see us going after wingers / wide midfielders? I think we'll need to have a 442 back up plan and you need width for that...

This ‘shows what the bookies know’ line is so wide of the mark. They are ultra cautious early days for obvious reasons but are clearly better and More informed than most football fans. Quoting Leicester is hilarious, if an outsider wins, like in racing it’s a great day for the bookies.

Last season Man Citeh, Wolves, Blackburn, Wigan, Luton , not a bad shout!

We’ve got Kellett, Alessandra, Hawkridge, Osborne and even Noble who can play wide. I’d like another one for sure but it probably depends on Hawkridge potentially leaving.
